This game is a solid 7/10 for me. I think the IGN reviews got it right. Maybe up to an 8 if you're a big fan of certain aspects. It's enjoyable in bursts but outside of the initial excitement I had for the title, the slow realization came to be that this is a game that really is extremely dated by modern standards. It does things....adequately, but it never manages to exceed expectations on any level.

It's not a complete disaster or anything, it's a decent title that has the luster of a large production, but it falls greatly short of many other titles. Cyberpunk got a LOT of flak for their release, and rightly so, but after the patches that game seems so much better in terms of story, characters, and gameplay to me.

7th grade? I was in college and arrived 4 hours early. I had about 20 people ahead of me for Skyrim at midnight and that line was over a block long. As for Starfield. I skipped it. It sounds like such a headache to play right now. Even the guys at my work don’t have anything good to say about the planets, traveling, and copy/paste jobs. Space doesnt mix well with bethesda game formula I think . Loading into interior , dungeon doesnt feel that tendious in Oblivion/skyrim/fallout because my brain knew there still a big , open , seamless world out there .

I respect OP for at least putting in the time before coming to a conclusion like that, you see opinions (and even some genuine ass metacritic reviews) from people who've barely put in 3, 5 hours into massive RPGs to render final judgment.

As for me, I am around hour ~70 and enjoying my time with the game so far, while realizing its shortcomings and going in with the expectation of it being Skyrim in space.

For me at least, I didn’t have high expectations. Nothing shown stood out to me gameplay wise that would set it apart from other games.

After playing what I’ve played so far, am I disappointed? No. Not really. Bethesda has their vision for the game/series so I think it’s fair to respect that at bare minimum.

At the same time, after some major letdowns in recent years like Destiny and MCC, I don’t get hyped for games like I used to.

The PS2 was my first console. Me and my brother would play that shit all day as kids. The PS2 comment is called a hyperbole. It can be used to viscerally illustrate someone’s point. To highlight something. I understand an Xbox series X game shipped in 2023 does not literally look like a PS2 game. I think you understand that though

Have you tried the DLSS 3 mod? You can get up to 100fps with it in the right conditions even at 4K Ultra.

I haven’t messed with any mods yet. Been jumping around from PC in my office to series X in my bedroom, don’t want to make it too confusing.
