I've said it before and I will say it again, MS best move would be to give Starfield a timed exclusive Gamepass and then on down the line, release it on PS5 for full price. It's not keeping the game off of Sony platform, but is providing an attractive reason to play on Xbox.
So MS need to appease sony fans to get a deal to with an unrelated company to pass through? this thread though.......

I thought ol Phil boy wanted everyone to be able to play all games no matter the hardware

Phil has that PR speak down to a T
Well rumour has it that Phil proposed bringing GamePass to PS5. I don't know of it's true or not as I don't remember where I read it.

I like how them canceling PS5 versions just for the fuck of it comes back to bite them in the ass like this.

They could've sold a bazillion PS5 copies of Starfield AND get this fucking Activision merger, but they had to be petty.
I highly doubt, that would have made MS buying the largest publisher an easier pill for sony to swallow. And its pretty obvious the FTC is trying to come up with anything they can to see what sticks.

…are you being willfully ignorant? the point is the FTC and CMA both have claimed Microsoft lied about they were going to handle Bethesda games and now don’t believe them regarding ABK

They said they were going to look into games on a "case by case basis "..........

As far as im concerened. if you buy something...its yours do what you see fit as long as it benefitrs your business and customers. I dont care what machieavliian tactics go on in a bazzlion dollar industry, I dont work in. feel how you want about that..... no company is innocent...its just how it goes. but if I buy a company for anything north of a billion dollars Im not putting anything out on anything other than my own platform.

After seeing the showcase and the scope of the game i can see why they would want it as an exclusive and not average stuff like Ghostwyre

I'm not sure what the FTC are proving here? Obviously a multiplatform developer before the acquisition was making its games for PS5, if this is all they've got then I don't think Microsoft will lose any sleep over this.
The relevance is that regulators approved the Zenimax deal because they were assured by Microsoft about games being multiplat.

The FTC are arguing Microsoft can’t be trusted.

That’s why this is relevant.

Why else Microsoft would buy them? To compete to Sony, and thanks to that acquisition they will have a killer up this fall.

more like, given the news about how they renegotiated the contract for Indiana Jones, Microsoft wasn’t able to make stuff like Ghostwire exclusive because there’s no way in hell Sony was going to renegotiate the contracts they had with Bethesda

It was literally announced for next gen consoles. Everyone knew it was coming to a Playstation console.
Ya but Platforms were never officially confirmed. Platforms were only revealed after Acquisition. PS logo was never there on teaser revealed lol.
And Sony was making deal to make it timed exclusive.

And We all knew Bethesda was acquired to boost 1st party output. They said case by case basis for Bethesda games.

In case of ABK they signing a 10 yr legally binding deals. They were not doing for future Bethesda games.

Actually they were close to a deal to make it console exclusive like Deathloop and Ghostwire:Tokyo. And then MS bought them.
Pete Hines also confirmed on the stand that MS approached them many times to make their IPs exclusive as well, then chose to buy them outright.

So, another one gets checked off the list that only Sony was trying to do it.

Spiderman games used to be multiplatform but now Sony not letting Insomniac to make it multiplatform.

FF games also exclusive to PS5 plus Sony has 20% shares in SE.

Sony can make games exclusive but if MS doing same to boost their ecosystem, they evil ruining industry. You all some goofy clowns seriously lol

Wait, are you saying that game that Sony tried to get as an exclusive which suddenly became a XBOX exclusive because MS acquired Zenimax?

Colour me surprised, -shocking-

You're the one being a clown, because what I said had not one goddamn thing to do with Spiderman. NOT. ONE. GODDAMN. THING.

My post is about Starfield. Nothing more.

Me saying that MS should release Starfield on PS5 a year down the line, doesn't in ANY way imply that somehow I am OK with Sony making Spiderman exclusive.

Some of you are so stupid. This is about MS lying to regulators about the Bethesda acquisition.

nah, even if it was planned it was never announced to the public. it was never official. there is no lie there. if you could preorder and then it was taken away. Heck if it was said a in a teaser video even... that would have been a different story.

Given the choice, I would have likely purchased Starfield on the PS5 just because I like the PS5 controller and its features better. In the end, I went for the PC version so that I can enjoy mods and higher FPS cap and can still play Starfield on my Xbox for 'free' with gamepass if I want to.

The issue of foreclosing ? They deemed that they don't think MS will foreclose as well.

Yes, but they recognised that Microsoft have form. That’s what the FTC is arguing.

Whether the CMA or EU conclude differently isn’t relevant to the FTC case as that’ll be judged on its own merits.

Interestingly New Zealand have indicated they have the same concerns as the CMA.

Surely they ain't laying out 7 billion to get no exclusives at all. Now I'm surprised Indiana Jones is exclusive but Starfield is a new IP and it's a high profile exclusive that Xbox needs.

Sony always wants to buy timed exclusivity. Microsoft has gotten boned by it for the last gen. Probably part of what has pushed MS to buy Bethesda/Zenimax and ABK. Microsoft might not be good to gobble up stuff, but Sony has been no saint either the last decade or so signing up exclusivity deals to keep games off XBox. I am not saying buying ABK is the answer, but there needs to be something to make Sony sweat and be competitive through means that are not paying to keep games off other platforms.
Mhmm except unlike Sony, baby Xbox will get Daddy Microsoft but more publishers and studios and exclusives…If Xbox wanted to make PS sweat they would have invested in their own studios first given how they are clearly struggling instead of simply buying ‘success’..
