I'm hoping/expecting that we're going to get a pretty huge overhaul when big tv mode comes out seeing as it's suppose to work better with controllers(right?) Currently it's impossible to view achievements/profiles/whatever with a controller so I'm betting that we get an updated UI(and hopefully a more integrated overlay/not opening the browser) to accommodate this.

They announced "HDTV mode" ages ago. When is it supposed to be released?

God no, don't need some stupid point score added to achievements, they're fine the way they are.

talk about the ugliest shit on my grid view

I REGRET THE PURCHASE ALREADY
Try:
Doc Clock (everything about it looks like ass though)
Imperium Gold Edition
Quake
Sanctum
Rainbow Six 3: Athena Sword

These are all worse IMO (the last 2 don't even have grid pics).

They haven't announced anything for big-picture mode other than its in the works and it's for tv's and full controller support. They've been silent since it was announced.

It seems a lot cooler than the current "Steam Rating" which is just based on how long you sit in games? That's pretty lame especially since you can just idle them and it boosts it.

I mean, it doesn't have to be tacky and they could certainly give you the option of whether or not you want to display it.

They already show your percentage complete per game, I don't see the problem with turning that in to an aggregate that you could compare with otheres if you wanted to.

The only thing I like about Steam Achievements is looking to see how rare some of them are. For example I like seeing when only 0.8% of players have gotten one. I wish PSN had something similar.
This alone makes me care 1000x more about Steam achievements than XBL and PSN.

Can someone explain steam trading? I've got some games I don't want anymore, can I trade those with other people for newer things?

Steam Trading officially released

Steam Trading Feature Is Live

Welcome to the official launch of Steam Trading, which allows you to exchange In-game items and Gifts with everybody in the Steam Community.

trading_messaging_news.jpg

Now you can trade Steam Gifts and in-game items from Valve games Team Fortress 2 and Portal 2, as well as from Spiral Knights, the cooperative adventure from Three Rings and Sega. We’re working with other developers to incorporate Trading and Inventories into their games, so keep an eye out for future announcements in the coming months.

Your Steam Community profile now has an item Inventory, and you'll be able to view the Inventories of every public profile in the Steam Community.

Click over to the Steam Trading FAQ for more information, and get trading!

No, only gift-games. Games you haven't used.

Cool, so nobody's on beta anymore.

If you don't open it, yes.

Team Fortress 2 just got an update..
-Reorganized the tabs in the Mann Co. Store into Bundles, Guns, Hats, Misc, Tools, and Maps to make it easier to find specific items
-Added a new Hot Items tab to the Mann Co. Store to show real-time popularity of items in the Mannconomy
-The Diamondback now correctly gets guaranteed crits if an Engineer changes class while their buildings are sapped
-Fixed a bug that would cause the Gunslinger to draw a normal Engineer hand first-person sometimes when wielding other weapons
-Fixed a server crash related to bots
-Fixed a client crash related to breakables/gibs
-Added item sets to the GetSchema WebAPI
-Updated the Spiral Sallet to be equippable by all classes

What already existing games do people think might get this? Loot games that might off the top of my head are Borderlands and Torchlight.

damn, the devs just admitted the build of dead island on steam was the wrong build (possibly a dev build). it's the same build on retail DVD release as well, so they have to reprint all the DVDs as well it seems.

what a screw up. never seen anything like it.

Perhaps one day, some day, we'll all look back on this with amusement because the game actually turned out to be pretty damn awesome.

No. Only the person who gifted it to you, if you haven't accepted it yet.

Edit:

This is true if the game is gifted the old way, if you traded it through steam trade, then you can trade it. (At least it was so a week ago)

Mind-blowing. What a blunder!

So Portal 2 items? Interesting - I have 2 so far but they appear to be non-tradeable achievement items. Does anyone have a Portal 2 item that is actually tradeable?

Is it worth buying 2 copies of K&L2 for the online co-op campaign?
I found it awful. Characters and story did nothing for me, filters were all over the place, describing the AI as braindead would be exaggerating, gameplay was dull and boring. Might be worth it to you for the novelty factor, dunno. Oh and it's super short, can't remember how short exactly though.

Doesn't the game require Steam? No need to reprint the DVDs since it'll auto update when the patch is released.

So I am canceling a preorder on Steam and support tells me to buy 2 games I already own and send it to my Steam account e-mail adress - then they will give the money (inlcuding the pre-order) back to me. This seems weird somehow. Anyone having experience?

You can still install a Steamworks game from the disc, it just will need to be updated to the current version.

Neither of these games can easily implement this system because they have locally saved files that have your inventories. Because of this, one could edit the file to get the best items and then just trade them to people ignorant of this for money. These games would have to require an online inventory system like TF2, which would piss more people off than it's worth.

Thank you to everyone for all the bug reports and excellent feedback on Steam Trade and friends list changes. Lots of great info, it's very helpful for us to see everyones reactions to changes made in Steam.

We've done another Steam client beta update today, with several more fixes: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showpost.php?p=24299239&postcount=1

Now it's time to get a lot more people involved in trading! We're getting very close now to making this beta Steam client a full public release. What we need your help with now is making sure the new functionality works as intended, and importantly that there are no regressions in existing functionality from the current public Steam client. Other bug reports and feedback are still helpful, but regressions are what we are looking hardest at right now.

As all the feedback is evidence for, this is just the start of a lot more Steam client updates involving both Trading and the Steam Community / Friends list. There are too many good ideas to list, but it's worth calling out a few items we want to address in the next release(s):
- Better tools for finding & starting trades
- Trading of CD-Keys
- Trading of real world currency
- More friends lists features, including more tagging
- More games hooked up to trading

We plan on releasing the Steam Client update to everyone this week, and start a new Steam Client beta next week.

No, there are random items you get that are tradeable and bought items become tradeable after a couple days.

Last game I remember that happening to was Merchants of Brooklyn but I think that was a steam/digital only release. I think it also happened to a Sam and Max game on gametap.

Makes sense, the MMOs might be fair game then.

Are people still playing K&L2 multiplayer? From all the videos it looked really fun.

It never really took off, but it does have bots that are decent enough.

I've seen this a few times on gaf, but Rambo does engage in quite a bit of wet work in Rambo: First Blood Part II. :p

This sale is tempting....17.75 for 5 cool looking games.

I hope if they do change achievements they give the option to turn them off. The pop ups get annoying and I would rather never see them but I like using the in game browser.

What does it mean trading of CD Keys? Wouldn't that just be like regular gifting?
It would mean that you can purchase a Steamworks retail game copy and trade the key associated with it through Valve's system.
