Oh god no please no. As soon as you attach a score, people get retarded and online multi-player goes to shit.
SmokyDave said:
Because you get people 'boosting' their score by totally fucking up online games. It changes the way that people play the games, they chase the small objective that they personally need for that one achievement rather than focusing on the bigger picture.
Smoky, your point doesn't sustain because the simple fact that achievements are already present on Steam. And you do get the gamer behavior you describe in Steam also, i see this a lot in Left 4 Dead 1/2.

I see its already been said :)
spindoctor said:
Actually, the moment you attach achievements to a game is when people go crazy. Having a score attached to them is not what makes the difference.

Multiplayer games should not have achievements. Or if they must, they should be designed very carefully so that none of them can disrupt gameplay.
Spindoctor hits the nail in the head. Except some achievements are useful in coop games. The doctor achievement improves cooperation in Left 4 Dead.

Don't you have to be a steamworks game to get achievements anyway? I think some older games may break that rule but I can't think of anything in the last 2 years or so that wasn't steamworks but had achievements.

If a better achievement system boosted steamworks use because of all of us cheevo whores, I'd say everyone wins there.

I don't think I follow what you're saying, as far as how it relates to what I posted.

But: Yeah, to get Steam Achievements, the version on Steam needs to support some element of Steamworks. Games like Witcher 2, however, have multiple versions, like ones sold via GOG, D2D, and retail, that do not have Steam achievements or Steamworks, and a special Steam version that does.

My point was that, as a consumer, some kind of point system isn't really much of a benefit. At its most extreme, all it does is make you play games you otherwise do not want to play.

It's consumer responsibility. In a related note, Steam specials (summer or holly days sales) make people buy games that they don't even play ever.

Blood money first. you love it? get the rest at the next sale
I don't know. Blood Money is the most refined, so he'll need to adapt to more archaic mechanics in the other games.

Point taken. However, people buying games currently are motivated by their interest in the game for its own merits (a part of which may be price). (Though I'll kill my own argument here and admit I have a friend who bought Bad Rats because "it's 98 cents, dude. lol, immaidiot." Though I imagine he is more of an outlier than anything, where people achievement whoring on Xbox is a fairly well known phenomenon.)

The demo for Hard Reset is on Steam right now, did they just add it? Only 1.1GB, gonna give it a try.

Jumping on this when I get home.

Thanks for posting about the Hard Reset demo, looking forward to trying it later. I'm a little disappointed about the no quicksaves though.

Have never played, nor heard of Booster Trooper. But there is no PS3 version of it, that I am sure of. I think you are thinking of Crash Commando maybe?

I tried Booster Trooper when they had a free weekend for a year or two ago. It's like Soldat, only less fun and more expensive. Definitely try the demo first.

The Hard Reset demo is really good.
Wait, a PC FPS free demo? Like, I don't have to preorder? Do I have to like something on Facebook, or buy the gamestop edition? Is this for enhanced edition purchasers only?

You mean I can like, download the demo for free on Steam and decide if I want to buy the game? D:

How can I easily transfer all my Steam games to another HDD? Is it a matter of simply copying and pasting the entire folder?

I bought a Booster Trooper 4 pack, 2 remaining. If anyone has anything Indie to trade, great. If not, they're free.

I went into manage gifts and just noticed I have an extra Tomb Raider Legend. Not sure where it came from? Again, anyone have anything to trade?

Some people swear by Steam's backup feature.

I say:

1) Find Steam folder
2) Find steamapps folder, inside Steam folder
3) copy the folder out, to somewhere else (like your desktop)
4) uninstall Steam
5) reinstall Steam, but make sure you make the install path where you want it on your new HDD
6) copy your steamapps folder into your new Steam install.

Copy the Steamapps folder along with any my documents folders for random game saves.

Most people recommend backing up just the steamapps folder and placing that into the root directory of a fresh Steam installation, but I've always backed up the entire Steam folder and haven't had any issues. Steam may spit out a message stating it needs to be reinstalled, but in fact it'll work just fine.

Edit: Beaten.

Also bear in mind that some games (World of Goo, Plants vs Zombies maybe) keep saves in weird places. If you have any game for which you're REALLY concerned about the save, make sure double check the save file location.

Yes, it's an actual game as opposed to a "cinematic experience", as it were.

I'll take one if its free, I don't have anything to trade.

Booster Trooper was kinda fun for about 30 minutes, then I never really wanted to play it again. And that was right after it came out, I imagine the MP is completely dead now.

Isn't there already a website (Steam calculator if I am correct) that calculates how much your account is worth?
I just tried that and now I'm utterly depressed
4200 bucks
.

That's a shitload of games to play in case of a nuclear/zombie apocalypse. Except even if I had power, I wouldn't be able to play offline for more than 30 days. :(

edit: hah, just noticed my 4 digit steamID on that site. Now, that feels good.

GameSaveManager is great for collecting save files and dropping them all compressed into a folder so you have something to easily back it up.

I never found the Steam Calculator a good gauge on how much you spend. Who hear honestly buys games at full price unless it's a brand new big AAA release? And even then it seems like sales are right around the corner.

Definitely. Coupling it with Dropbox is pretty easy and great too.

Don't think it is mentioned yet. If you buy Achron now (http://store.steampowered.com/app/109700/), you get a second giftable copy for free. It's a RTS in which you (and your enemy) can play with time. I hear it is a bit difficult to get into, but it gets good scores.

I'd love it if they would give me a demo to play first.

30 bucks with no demo is no buy territory for me. Even with a second copy.

It'd be nice if Steam itself gave you this information, it already shows transaction history (along with what you specifically paid for that transaction) they just don't give you a total. My Steam could be worth anywhere between $2,200 and $7,200 according to this website, I just don't know what I bought on sale and what I bought full price so there's no way to be more specific without adding it all up from my store transaction history.

Yeah, more and more games aren't bothering with demos these days and it annoys me. If I'm going to be spending money on a game, especially £20+, I want to know if it's actually worth the money or not first. I don't understand what's led to a lot of games releasing without demos lately.

Hahaa, so true. That's one of the only things I like about Xbox live games over steam, the fact that most have demos.
