There will be an Archon demo. This was confirmed by the devs.

They felt the demo build didn't do a good job with showcasing the time mechanic, so they're redoing it.

They must really hate us.

WAIT.... how come EA are putting a sale on steam rather than Origin at this point? I know deals are planned beforehand but considering EA & Valve are at loggerheads at the moment I find this puzzling
EA still likes money.

It is possible they want to pad some figures for their third quarter numbers though, but that is complete speculation.

Will probably buy the original Shift, it's only £3.75. Was tempted to buy Undercover too - clicked on game page, saw this 'recommendation' by LocoMrPollock, duly reconsidered:
Yeah, don't waste your money on Undercover. Even $2.50 is too much for this turd.

It uses the PS2 assets, looks like shit, plays like shit, controls like shit, sounds like shit.

Thinking of printing out the game icon, enlarging it and wiping my ass with it. Would be more useful anyway.

fun fact: Hot Pursuit is effing great and shut up
It's beautiful (with super-sampling) and fun with friends, but the singleplayer is horribly balanced. I just loved those 13 mile events where fellow racers couldn't actually permanently die when I could and those cops that attacked me 99% of the time and how it was damn near impossible to get a good lead and then have it lost over one small mistake, but then they crash and you blow by them and get a sick lead only to watch them magically fucking pass you again.

The game is far from fun but don't tell that to SalsaCAPS :p

Im not a casual gamer and i tried really really hard but NFS Hot Pursuit's single player is very very hard, i got to the point where any mistake, no matter how little means a restart of the race, maybe i was drifting too much, not slipstreaming enough, i dont know, its bruttal, beautiful and fun but really frustrating too.

Graphics look good, but its an obvious console port. You only have to join multiplayer lobby to know, btw noone is playing online. The multiplayer lobby is quickmatching POS and you can walk around doing while you wait.

It has too much handholding garbage going on with the interface and all these mini achievements popping up. Also there is a waypoint every 10 meters in the game on where to go.

Gunplay seems solid and the weapons and pistols have that ompth behind them.

Good thing i got this for free from GMG with referral money.

2 pics from the first level. You see that white dot? Thats the stupid waypoint system, you can't even disable it.

You actually made me laugh there. I think it's pretty much assumed at this point that all your purchases are free through GMG credit.

yes it has rubberbanding, but its far from the worst ive seen in a racing game

game's a tun of fun, driving feels just right for me, right amount of arcadey controls. Sense of speed is great, modes are fun, multiplayer works great, and its drop dead gorgeous (by forcing AA).

Hmm, was about to buy Shift 1 when I remembered I have it on 360. Anything make the PC version worth double dipping on, besides the obvious better graphics?

I thought you couldn't force AA with the Steam version, i gave up trying when i learned this...

I had no problems in HPs single player. Rubber banding works both ways. There was almost never a time where I couldn't come back after missing a shortcut or hitting a spike strip.

Tons of mods to make it have less jank gameplay, but I wouldn't recommend it. Repurchased it for cheap a while ago and spent more times installing all the mods than actually playing it. Just not worth. There are much better arcade games available. And much better sims. In the end, you'll probably just play something else you have in those categories.

Yeah I'm disappointed again that Civ 5 went on sale without the DLC being on sale. I'd bite on some of it but not at regular price.

I'll wait for the GOTY edition of Civ5.

That 100 hours I got out of Civ 5 is out of the base game. Yeah the DLC adds scenarios to play through and you can use the new civs in the main game, but it's not like you're getting short changed with just the base game. Far from it.

Hmm, I'm tempted by the Need for Speed deals.

Narrowed down my options to Hot Persuit and Shift. For someone on a budget at this time of year anyway, what's the better deal? Is Hot Persuit worth an extra £6-£7 more than Shift?

I am extremely disappointed there are still no unit animations in Civ 5's multiplayer. It's not even handled gracefully. You just get damage numbers popping off over top of a unit, and you aren't even alerted to the majority of movement actions and combats that take place in between turns in multiplayer. Really lazy work.

I have and AMD card, game just seems to ignore Radeon Pro's AA settings, i found somewhere online that the Steam doesnt have the latest version of the game and that is why it doesnt work :(

Huh? HP is €6.8 here, Shift €5.

edit
Ah, saw on last page it's very different depending on region.

so basically what you want is multiplayer to be much more slower for no reason

Civ sessions take a long-ass time to end, why would you want to make that longer? animations in MP would be terrible. There's a point in the game where you wanna get to the meat of the mechanics easier and you just dont care for the spectacle anymore. Its like turning off animations on battles in Pokemon games.

Its not lazy work, its obviously on purpose.

Maybe he wants it to work more like the Total War series, with actual battles? A blend of overmap strategy and in map warfare?

But that would not be Civ, it would be total war.

NFS Hot Pursuit has some of the most goddamn infuriating rubber-banding.

Some of the worst I've ever seen. I liked a lot about the game, but the rubber-banding killed it for me in the end.

Steam has the latest version and AA works for me (5850). I use this method and SSAA works nicely.

Every time Civ 5 goes on sale I'm tempted. But then I remember I bought the Civ4 entire pack on sale and I've barely played it like 30 minutes since that weekend.

I don't have time for Civ games :/

Sheesh, the NBA thread is serious business. Besides, nothing wrong with loving cock-steam, it's a natural byproduct of pissing on cold days.
