It certainly doesn't impact my purchases at all, and in some cases it actually enhances a game experience (being able to communicate with XBL people when playing a PC game is cool, for example).

That is the main reason I like GFWL; most of my friends are on Live. I certainly prefer Steam's system, but actually I would prefer the best of both worlds: having access to Steam AND access to GFWL. I am much more likely to buy anything that has both.

Blue Toad what? Now I just have a feeling Valve has seen this thread and is trying to make it hurt a bit longer..

Thursday is probably right though. With what we know that seems to be where it all points..

could i get a run down of that?

Blue Toad, according to Gamespot:

It's difficult to recommend Blue Toad because of its short length, high price tag, and complete lack of replayability. The lack of a hint system is also a major omission, and the ability to skip through puzzles makes the game all too easy. With the right group of friends or family members, Blue Toad is definitely good for a few giggles--just be prepared for a short and expensive ride.

Don't think I'm going to bite.

Blue Toad is too expensive (relatively) for me to bite on that unless someone has some really great praise for it. Never heard of it before but it looks kinda cool and I do like adventure games... but eh.
Blue Toad Murder Files was 85% off - $3.00 as one of the Daily Indie Deals during the 2010 Steam Holiday Sale. I doubt it is going to get much cheaper unless it becomes part of an Indie pack that gets a huge discount during a deal at some point.

Oh that price is definitely low enough, but I meant it's too much for me to spend on a gamble on a game I'd never heard of before and doesn't look to be that great. :)

I think I'll just avoid this thread until the actual sales start. IF they even happen.
Well, tomorrow's a new day! and new hype rising for tomorrow and the day after and the day after the sale actually hits the service.

Glad I got JC 2 and Fallout: Vegas in the last week or I would be craving a sale as much as you guys. Been playing AC II and gotta say damn its a great game. Brotherhood will be bought next at whatever price, discounted or not.

Blue Toad actually isn't that short. When it was originally released, it was per case, and each case is about an hour. So at the time they charged $10 for about an hour of gameplay. But the Steam version has six or so cases. I have the game but only played the first case. I think it might be worth a pick up if you like Layton type games, but you really have to pay attention to what people say because there's random quizzes.

Stop It

Perfectly able to grasp the inherent value of the fishing game.
Well, the Steam forums is currently down for "maintenance"...epic coincidence or sale incoming?

Edit: beaten by 30 minutes, lol.

Anyway, I want Hydrophobia, so will get it upon salage, probably.

edit Edit: Well, on a related note, my Steam had a beta update that took a glorious age to complete, and the downloads for the latest TF2 patch took ages too, so already the system is struggling for some reason.

Is Hydrophobiaa good? It looks craaaaazy for $3, and reviews seem pretty good.
I think that it's IMPOSSIBLE to say at this point.

The original game was reviewed as mediocre. They redid the entire game to address most of those criticism's and then redid the entire game a second time to further refine it. But, naturally, it will not be reviewed again and the game is saddled with its release date reviews. $3 is worth it if you are interested, since the reviews will not be wholly accurate.

Been playing Just Cause 2 anyways lol

Bolo patch with 2km rope are win all the way.

Wish I had picked up Just Cause 2 on the Weekend. Would have given me something to do until the Steam sale.

Yeah, it's got 6 episodes and some of the puzzles are a bit tricky and will require either time or multiple retries.

I'd recommend it to people who enjoy Professor Layton and/or Puzzle Agent.

The friends I've talked to about the Steam version have said it's pretty middle of the road. 3 dollars for average with an interesting idea seems like a fair deal to me.

A turd is a turd, no matter the price.

I dunno, you might get $3 bucks out of it. I paid $5 and never finished it.
It's something I've had an interest in. I can accept that it's rather mediocre, but for 3 dollars I'd still like to check it out.

XBLA or Steam version? Because the Steam version has many improvements over the (already improved) XBLA one.

I mean, it's probably still a mediocre game, but I think it's important to let people know about the various versions.

How is the PC version improved?

Yeah, it was the XBLA version, post whatever their big patch was.

Why is the PC version improved?
Why or how? :p

Here's some of the how.. though probably not comprehensive (not listing bug fixes or general changes).
Hydrophobia Prophecy

Hydrophobia Prophecy is described as version 1.5 of the Xbox 360 version of the game. Hydrophobia Prophecy is to be released on PlayStation 3 and Valve's Steam service.[22] The game includes new levels (approximately 70% of the game is new and previously existing levels have been reworked).[23]
And, just for giggles, here's the first set of changes from Wiki.
Hydrophobia Pure

After its release, Hydrophobia received poor reviews from some media outlets, prompting contention between the developer and some reviewers.[18] Pete Jones, Joint Design Director for Dark Energy Digital spoke of the difficulties experienced in an interview with Gaming Nexus. "Criticism can be hard. You make games because you love games, perhaps on occasions we may have seemed a little too defensive and disappointed. Pride can be a big virtue as well because you need to be intensely proud of something you're creating in any endeavor."[19] Jones further stated that it was difficult to accept that some consumers and critics disliked the game. He conceded that "if the community doesn’t like it we try and change it no matter whose toes we tread on."[19]

In response to some of the harsh feedback and reviews the developers revisited core gameplay mechanics and issues addressed by both reviewers and Hydrophobia's community.[20] In an interview with GamesTM, Senior Creative Designer Rob Hewson discussed the process for addressing issues found. "Firstly we analysed every single review of the game [...] breaking down all the negative and positive comments into categories" he stated. "Once we had analysed the data, we set about improving every single element of the game according to that data,"[20] The subsequent updates were released in a title update dubbed Hydrophobia Pure on December 21, 2010. The 4 megabyte update contains various graphic and physics enhancements, remapped controls, overhauled camera and map systems, improved gameplay mechanics, additional HUD information and removal or shortening of irritating dialogue and cutscenes.[21] The game was also reduced from its original price of 1200 Microsoft points to 800, with the update free for players who already own the game.[21]

Impressions on the overhauled version of Hydrophobia from Rock, Paper, Shotgun.

Even assuming all those impressions would sum up my overall experience, if it did hit $3 I would still buy it.

It has been cheaper

and no I haven't played it (stupid backlog)
