I think Stallion had it right.

edit: (don't listen to the person below me)

I'm confused? Those are two separate things, one being indie games such as Hamilton getting updates, and the other being a ton of DLC added to the registry, which turns out to be for SSF4AE.

As for the "foo" password if that's what you mean, that's the password for pretty much everything in the registry. Although the folder structure that Stallion posted does indicate updates for indie games, so summer sale must be close! *hopes*

or I was just messing around.

Steam needs to hurry up with the sale. I'm tempted to once again make a purchase from a competitor. Gamersgate has Bioshock and Bioshock 2 for $4.99 each.

This thread was staying relatively quiet today. We don't want to jinx anything at this point.

I think the summer sale hype broke us. Our hearts can't take all the anticipation. So, we stopped actively waiting, and we're just going with the flow.

And then they'll get us.

I also think the only sales will be the daily sails, it keeps you guys checking steam, and casuals more likely. I know I boot up steam just to see what the day's sale will be, see it's some meh game, and done. Today will be Plants vs Zombies for $3 most likely.

I believe It comes out to around $29.99 USD for each copy
Very nice, much cheaper than here in the EU. I can pay with paypal in an instant, so PM me if you gathered 2 additional peeps.

people did this last fall/christmas. "Steam is behind. Steam used to be a leader in sales, but not anymore. Is Steam even going to have a Christmas sale, not likely!?"

I dreamed about the summer sale this last night, you guys. It must happen today. CONFIRMED information by my subconscious!

I don't remember which game was the main event of the day, but I remember a couple Indie Game Packs. So get ready to spend some of that cash!

I'm sure Gabe reads this thread and as soon as people give up hope, BAM! Sale.

I know he reads this thread. Watching, from his skybase. I've given up hope Gabe. Drop the bomb!

At least now we know the DLC will be through Steam and not GFWL!
I really hope they release all the alt costumes at once. None of this "one pack per month/week" bullshit they've been pulling on the console.

I'm not buying them by packs, I want them all at once. Yes, both of them will cost me as much as the game itself, but whatever. Don't trickle'em down!

I almost bit on that until I saw the dreaded Games for Window banner at the top. Good it's there, though. Like a lighthouse for my sanity, except instead of warding off ships it wards off my desire to put my fist through my monitor.

Um, Games for Windows isn't a BAD thing. In fact, it's a great thing. It makes the 360 controller support standard. Of course, if it said Game for Windows LIVE, then I'd be worried.

Bioshock 2 is gfwL. Oh and it doesn't support the 360 pad even though the first one did.

I think I'm one of few people on GAF who has never had any trouble with GFWL. Not a great system, by any stretch, but it's never really caused me any hassle.

I mean, I've got 250 hours logged on F1 2010 now and all I see of GFWL is the sign in screen when I boot up the game and the friends menu when I open it up to invite other GAFers. It functions really well.

It should be so, so much better though. Steam outdoes them in pretty much every single way, other than being linked to your Live account.

Yeah, one of those dumb decisions made for no apparent reason by the developers trying to appeal to the elite PC peeps or something. I dunno.

Anyway, the multiplayer is pretty fun, though it's probably a wasteland by now.

I own, and play on an Xbox. That's why I dislike GFWL.

1 sign-in location. Wonder if that crap happens on WP7 as well.

Wait, is it GFWL on on Steam 2?

I actually really dig GFWL due to my friends being on Xbox live. I never bought Bioshock 2 on PC because I thought they dropped that feature.

I'm so vain for not wanting to jump on non-Steamwork sales on other distro sites because of the whole "Playing Non-Steam Game" thing. Look what Gabe has done to me. I'll look even stupider once its revealed there's no summer sale.

But I can't take the anticipation anymore. I want to buy games!!!

Edit: Btw, I wasn't trying to imply anything towards Steam. Just that the anticipation for the sale has got me in the mood to buy some games and now I'm seeing all these sales from other competitors since I first came into this thread.

Yeah regarding Bioshock 2 - I got it off the Steam Sale a couple of months back and just got around to installing it recently (still haven't actually played any of it) and the GFWL stuff is just awful. Stupid amount of updates and restarting the game to get it to function.

The release of the Hacker Evolution was pushed back on Steam from this Thursday (June 30, 2011) to July 31, 2011. HMM?

Maybe Smash was right in saying that the sale will be 3 weeks long and coincide with the beginning and end of the Killing Floor Summer Event.

If you look through the Achievement list then you will see that both have achievements related to the Summer Sale.

Wait, wait, wait ... I thought you worked at Valve? Were you just doing the Steam updates in this thread all of this time out of the kindness of your heart?

Yeah, the only game I've had problems with was fallout 3. With the newest client and a fresh install things seem to work OK now. I have Gears, Fallout 3, Dirt 2/3, Batman AA, Bioshock 1/2, Red Faction:G, GTA IV Complete, Resident Evil 5 and a few others and only had issues with 1 of them.

The only annoying thing is having to dig out keys and input them when you reinstall a game instead of Live just remembering it when you're signed in.

If any GAFer worked at Valve, they wouldn't so much as even given the impression as such out of fear of retribution from Lombardi. He has to protect that Half-Life 3 egg at all cost, after all. :p

Looking at a trailer, wow, how can they not?
The only thing I hear is that they have beef with the low resolution. I think it adds to the charm. Very Sierra golden-age.

It's a very good game too!

That and when you first sign in to the client if you have to reinstall GFWL sometimes it requires you to restart the game/client 6 or 7 times before you can successfully log in.

But still, compared to a lot of the crap out there, I don't find GFWL to be that much of a hassle. It certainly doesn't impact my purchases at all, and in some cases it actually enhances a game experience (being able to communicate with XBL people when playing a PC game is cool, for example).

Just checked the registry and a bunch of new testapps have been added, as well as some DLC for Race 07 and Clash of Heroes

Now that I went back and reread this, what's up with that Clash of Heroes listing? Isn't that the DS/XBL/PSN puzzle game? It's brilliant and I've been waiting for a PC port for ages.

Before I launch the game I just uninstall whatever version the game is using and throw on the newest one that does all of the updating. If you do that, I think you can avoid the restarts, as I don't recall doing that stuff.
