What's Company of Heroes like?
[Biased] Awesome, squadbased WW2 strategy game with a 'twist', capture zones in the map to generate specific resources. I'll just copy-paste my Steam review for the first game! I've written for the other two, if anyone's interested aswell.
"Company of Heroes(CoH) has been since it's release, one of my favourite strategy games, a very unique and a lovely chance of experiencing history.
The campaign featured, starts off with the horrible, tragic and so remembered D-Day, and then continues to place the player in control of many major American Operations during WW2. Gameplay wise, you capture munitions/petrol points, which all vary in what amount it yields, which in turn gives you a resources per minute that you can use, to build another building in your base, or reinforce your squads, or order in artillery strikes.
On the subject of artillery strikes, there's also something called Commander Points, which gives you various advantages or access to calling in paratroopers, King Tigers / M26 Pershing or even off map reinforcements, there's enough room of options to do it in an entirely different fashion next time. Which, I usually do, as CoH is one of those games that I come back to replay every few years." [/Biased]
