Hydrophobia Prophecy sounds like it should be a lot better than either version that was on XBLA.

Though no matter how much they polish it, it's gonna pretty much just be average platforming/shooting with a neat water physics system. I got "Pure" for $5 on XBLA and thought it was pretty alright. $3 for a better version seems pretty good (From what I've read it has a real ending, less ridiculous voice acting, "reworked" and new level design, better cover system, some other stuff).

That said I have no idea how well the PC port is handled.

If the sale ends on July 11th, then it would support the sale starting Thursday or Friday since the last sale was 11 days.

It's swell that it's only $3 but I'm not gonna buy something just because it's cheap.
But you have to or the cereal box defense force will come after you.

Yes, GAF, once again you are ignorant. Listen to one guy about Hydrophobia. The game is great after that huge patch they did. For $3 it's a steal, for the full price, I would agree no.

It's $3, try it out, if you don't like it, put the blame on me, but don't just say "I'll pass", because one guy disliked it.
Actually it's more like the opposite... there are like 50 guys saying it's terrible and one or two saying it's decent.

Serious Sam is a wicked gahbidge series for chowdaheads.
The most critical omission in the Hydrophobia development cycle: TF2 hat.

At 3 dollars you'd buy it twice.

You are aware this is the steam thread right?

True, but I have as little time as I do money. Buying a game I'm not interested in just because it's cheap is digital hoarding. It'll just sit there, unloved in my Steam library, with like 43 minutes of time logged for it's entire existence.

It could be done.

I've seen users with hundreds of unplayed games. Unless they end up in some post-apocalyptic scenario where they're barricaded in their house and have nothing else to do to stay sane, they won't have time to play all those games. Most of them were probably on sale, but it adds up over time, and that's a lot of money to pay for content you'll never even touch.

I'm trying not to go down that road but I guess it's probably inevitable.

Installing Hydrophobia. If anything it will be a 3 dollar lesson that helps teach me not to just buy every game that goes on sale for under 5 dollars.

Thankfully all of my purchases up till now have been amazing ones.

It sort of is. There's always the packs that you buy because you were interested in one or two games, or the old favourites that are so cheap that you double dip so you don't have to dig the disk out next time you feel the urge.

I laughed so hard.

Also, Cuban Legend - you win. You know what I'm doin' right now? At my work? Playing fucking Team Fortress 2, desperately trying to loot some goods. I hate you and feeling good.

lol @ Valve messing with registry crawler...

By the way, just curious, who gets access to this registry? People working in companies which sells their games on steam?

I just finished the first act of Hydrophobia. It ran fine vsync'd on my e8400 3.0 GHz with ATI 5850. I didn't have Fraps running, but I would guess 40-60 most of the time...if it dropped to 30 due to vsync I didn't really notice it, even with water around. I had most of the shadows on medium though.

Overall it definitely seems like a bargain bin game. Graphics are decent, water is interesting, movement is a little wonky but not bad for me so far. There isn't a manual "save" option as far as I can tell, so I assume it just auto-reloads from the last checkpoint. Save would have been nice to have so I could pick when to quit.

There are some neat overlay effects if you turn off the HUD and choose to use the Mavi thing only. You hold it up to overlay ultraviolet-ish codes and lettering on the walls, and to see where your next objective is. There is also a 3D map you can look at. Both of those things kind of remind me of a Metroid Prime game. I got a weapon at the end of the first act and I like how it feels...it seems to interact with water in some fashion as well.

The atmosphere, art, and level design actually seem decent to me. The feeling of being trapped and trying to escape isn't bad, and there are actually some kind of disturbing moments to me...mostly running into floating corpses underwater, so far.

As for saying the story is crappy, I think the journals, documents, and objects you can collect are kind of interesting, and I like exploring and looking around. The story may not be anything special, but for contrast, what Steam games do have excellent stories? (For example, I liked KOTOR 1)

Long story short, $3-5 seems like a fair price to me for a mediocre-to-decent puzzle/explore/adventure game.

My new PC just shipped. Will be here tomorrow. Valve, I know you're listening, you have my permission to start the sale tomorrow. Thank you for waiting.

Confirmed Asshole
You guys realize there's a 4th of July next week, right? It's a Monday. Think about it. In relation to sales.

I'm saying that the summer sale probably starts somewhere around there because it's easy money.

Every goddamn time. Though the metascore actually managed to save my poor wallet this time.

No idea, but my memory is telling me you're not the first person to say that. It's one of the many mysteries of the internet, it seems. :(

Information leaks could actually be causing problems with them and larger third party publishers. Like Sonic Generations still has not officially been announced for the PC.

I see what you mean. When Sonic was revealed though I remember nothing but positive replies, so this positive hype isn't really affecting the developer - if anything it's getting people excited for the game and more likely to buy it.

For the couple of people who said Valve would call off the summer sale if we keep giving out the registry updates, I very much doubt they would. It would make both them and publishers too much money. At worst they'll find a way to lock us out of registry updates, which would be fine as it's their registry to do with as they want. Nothing more serious than that in my opinion.

I think I have this weird aversion to finishing ANY game I've bought on Steam (with the exception of the HL games and Portals). I got to chapter 8-9 in Dead Space 1 and I stopped playing that in favor of Just Cause 2 which I'm getting kinda bored with so I want to try a corridor-y FPS next. Oh God. D:

Isn't that... like against the law or something?!

Oh crap, I forgot about the Summer Sales.

Was last years one the one where I ended up with a treasure hat in TF2 for doing certain things, like have 10 items in your wishlist?

When do you think it will start?

Today, tomorrow, the day after or some time in the future. Sorry I can't be more helpful but we just don't know. Though many people in this thread seem convinced they do.

Might be related to the summer sales?

Refreshing Summer Cooler
It is like the other crates in TF2, but they expire the 11th of July. Maybe you get the keys buying games of the summer sale?
If it goes like that, we should have soon the summer sales, probably on 1st July.

Stallion Free gives consistently fair impressions of things. I bought Hydrophobia but it's certainly no slight against the game to take his opinion into account and to weigh it accordingly.

And the Eurogamer 4/10 review was linked as were the Rock, Paper, Scissors impressions (they refused to review it because that would have required them to finish a game they hated too much).

Stallion Free was basically a single sentence synopsis of everything they found wrong with the game (though I do encourage reading the reviews because they're almost comical in the rage that shines through).
