I always thought it was obvious that there isn't going to be a summer sale due to daily deals? The whole point of the summer sale was to regive some of the overlooked or wanted but too high titles an extra oomph outside of the holiday season.

What are you basing the bolded on? I seem to recall the sale was like any other Steam sale with a mixture of big and little titles going on deep discounts daily and moderate discounts on almost all titles on the store. I don't remember it being extra focused on smaller titles.

Does the game play fine on quad core? I rented it on the 360 back when it came out and had fun with the single player. For $5 I'll definitely buy it.

I have never personally done it since I don't have a quad core, but my impression from the Steam forum and reading around back when I tried the game out was that yes, 1, 4, and 6 core processors all were fine, just something weird about 2. And if you were still running XP dual cores were fine as well.

i bought Frontlines a while back for like $2.50 ...was something like 88% off at the time, so i couldn't resist. i like shooters a lot.

anyway, the game seemed kinda fucked on my old Core2Duo e6600. if i remember correctly, it would seem to run fine, but then start hitching and pausing randomly. i think the only way around it was to set the Frontlines .EXE priority to Low via task manager. pretty sure that fixed it.

i later upgraded to a quad core and that problem went away.

finally got interested and around to playing the single player campaign only a couple months ago, and had a bit of fun with it. it had some decent gun play, and there were some cool gadgets to use and some vehicles to drive. lots of stuff to blow up via setting charges, etc.

i used the xbox360 gamepad to play through it, and that worked pretty well. it was setup pretty well perfectly, but i changed a couple things (like crouching and going prone had to be remapped), but rumble worked, etc.

i'd probably give the single player campaign a 7/10. had some okay fun with it ...enough to stick with it until the end anyway.

never checked out the multiplayer. i figured it'd be dead, and really wasn't all that interested anyway.

it was worth the $2.50 i paid for sure.

Um...okay? I really don't see how creating another account is inherently bad. Sure it's annoying, but that shouldn't stop you from playing games. Hell, if you buy retail, you don't need an Origin account (maybe for BF3, I guess).

Just take a look at the 'EA sucks' thread for how "convenient" the EA accounts get.

And I shouldn't need one in the first place.

That's not true. Today's isn't, GTA SA wasn't, L4D2 wasn't. They have some good stuff on there.

Oh, fair enough. The thing is, presumably you have most the AAA titles you'd want, unless they're relatively new, and if they were I'd imagine a weekend or midweek sale is more likely.

Nor was Civ IV. Were you the guy who was complaining about this exact thing (saying only indie games, or only lousy indie games) a while back? I seem to even remember that person having a Deus Ex avatar. And then we pointed out games like Civ IV, and then that person said well, they'd already bought those games, and they just wanted OTHER games, that they didn't already own, and/or that were on their wish list, and/or that were new releases.

At any rate, surely it isn't reasonable for Valve to tailor storewide discounts on precisely the games you personally want but haven't already bought? :p

It was me, and you did reply.

I also already have VTMB from when that was like sub $10 or whatever.

I own a bunch of games already (300+ i guess) but the ones I want are all like $20+ and I want them to be down to like $5 or something :(

Couple of new registry additions: Deus Ex: Human Revolution review copy (I assume that's a press version of the game), and a collection of all Worms Reloaded DLC. No new updates to the "Stop looking these up" game though! :(

So we have to listen to you continually (twice now) whine about sales not being games you want because you are cheap?

Maybe I can put some context into this debate and cool things down a bit.

While I disagree with the daily deals being poor overall, and I certainly don't dismiss all indie games as shitty, I'm in kinda the same boat as he is. The daily deals are fantastic if you don't own a lot of games and are looking for a good deal or a random pick-up. But for people like me, the odds of the daily deal being both a game I haven't seen cheaper and am interested in is pretty slim--not to mention the fact that almost every daily deal has been on discount for even cheaper during the large sale events. I am aware that I (we) are in the minority here, though.

Again, I'm not saying the daily deals are bad, it's just that they aren't particularly useful to me. The thing with the huge sale events is that the games are almost always discounted to the lowest point they've ever been, and the selection is so vast that almost everyone will find something they like.

Yeah basically.

Also it's not about being cheap, are you saying you'd turn down a lower priced game because you think the game is worth more?

I want the game to be as low as possible because now that I have most of the games I want, the games left are those I'm interested in but are too expensive to impulse buy

The context was Gvaz's assertion that "The daily deals are only on shitty indie games, fuck that shit I want deep discounts on AAA games". Who cares if the daily deals aren't "useful" to Gvaz because he already bought them. Complaining about it is ridiculous, as is making false statements like "The daily deals are only on shitty indie games". Stallion Free was right.

The fact that we have Daily Deals is fantastic for both the consumer and the individual developers. Gamers with a vast sense of entitlement...wth.

I just played the first episode of the Blue Toad Murder Files game, and I loved it.
It's every bit as good as Puzzle Agent. The town and characters are quite cute and funny, and the puzzles are decent. Money well spent.

They aren't useful to me either, but I don't make a point of bitching about it in this thread once a week. I just try to give input on the games I own that are on sale to help people who do find the sales useful.

I freely admit that he went about it the wrong way. Daily deals are certainly better than nothing. What I assume/hope was he was trying to get at, though, is that daily deals are not an effective replacement for the summer sale. If he was meaning to say that daily deals just suck overall and they aren't worth having, then eff that!

They're worth having for those who want to try out new games for cheap, but none of the games other than a few appeal to me, nor are some of the deals very good.

I make the statement "these suck" but I say them w/r/t to myself not as a statement that applies to all.

I also don't feel they're strong enough by themselves to be a replacement for summer sales, but merely be a supplement.

The whole point of the daily deals is surely to give lesser known titles a bit of spotlight that they wouldn't get on the midweek madness/weekend deal. Wanting to see AAA bargains there is just stupid.

No, but you certainly do your fair share of bitching in this thread, like right now...heh.

It's not like there haven't been good games as daily deals. VVVVVV, L4D2, and Civ IV were all featured as daily deals and most people would consider those to be great games. The more mind blowing deals are always the midweek and weekend sales.

You are qualifying things now that you didn't earlier. Also, stating and restating exaggerated complaints and dissatisfaction with the Daily Deals because they don't fit your personal interests is never going to come off very well because it does come off as entitled and whiny.

I don't know if that was ever actually a serious consideration by more than just a few people here. Most comments about that have seemed to point out the obvious differences between the apparent targeted focus of larger sales and the individual Daily Deals.

It's all about the sauce. Bring it up to a nice temperature and LOTS of sauce and I'm game.

Yeah, I think a lot of people missed out on that one. It's really well made.

Well between this and the posts about Serious Sam HD, I think it's safe to say that tomorrow our wallets dine in hell.

Buckle up lads!

We all knew they were gonna start. Even TF2 items with summer on them have been dropping for day or 2. We even knew the ending date (July 11). As you said the only question was and is when. So don't think anyone seriously doubted the sales :D. And about to begin, tomorrow \o/

So before this thead gets buried in All Hail Gaben posts, I'd really like some suggestions for tower defense games. I already got Plants vs Zombies, Defense Grid, Revenge of the Titans and iBomber. Anything else worth checking out?

I hope there isn't a summer sale. Some of you guys need to get out of the house and into the sun. Try enjoying your life and the world around you once in awhile.

Besides, no summer sale makes the Holiday sale that much sweeter (partly because Deux Ex 3 will most likey be $29.99 or less--let's face it: that game has "flop" written all over it).

Hmm, now the sale ends a week later than last year's ... is VALVe slowly trying to shift the summer sale into the fall!? /tinfoilhat

Who/what is Swarm Arena anyway? So I take it they are reliable then?

Also I've seen people put money into their steam account really early in anticipation of the sale, is there any reason for that other than enthusiasm? Do the servers have problems or anything like that accepting payments during the sale?

Getting ready for my 1st summer sale ever!!!

TF2 boxes that expire July 11th.

Corky said:
I see, so it's safe to say it starts july 4th? ( LIKE I SAID AND YA'LL LAUGHED AT ME YA'LL LAUGHED AT ME ).

It's possible, but that would make it a much shorter sale then it was last year.
