Just out of curiosity, why don't you think there is going to be a summer sale? Especially with the achievements/twitters about the achievements from the developers?

To be honest, I had no idea about anything achievement related. As for making a bet on it, I think of it a courtesy of sorts. There is no real point in making an unpopular statement if you're unwilling to stick with it.

A 'reason' would be that the daily deals allready do what a summer sale what otherwise do. Another would be that one can't extrapolate a pattern or garantueed event from only one previous case, meaning that both statements (yes | no ) should still be considered equally likely to occur. On the level of statements, that is, not statistical probability.
It's not a smart bet, if that is what you're secretly thinking anyway. :)

I second the NBA 2k11 love, best sports game ever. I even broke my steam only rule and used a $20 credit I had on Amazon to buy the retail PC version, because it's that damn good.

NBA 2k11sounds like a steal for 7.50 on D2D but I'm not sure whether or not to hold off for JC2 tomorrow!

And a 15% coupon, damn son.
2k11 is a definite steal at that price. Best sports game I've played in a long time.

Take your time, Valve! I'll be away from my computer this weekend till monday night, and I missed a bunch of sales previously, I hate to miss another one. Totally selfish on my part, but I'm ok with that.

I clicked it out of curiosity and the feature list had me real tempted to buy. I'm always a sucker for games that include local co-op.

It's not at all good man don't support this drivel.

Save your money. Apparently the game is an unfinished mess.

Ahh, well, at least he gave you 2-1 odds. You probably could have gotten 5-1 considering the achievements and what not though. I respect your willingness to stand by your statement, and it's nothing personal, but I'm hoping you lose.

The daily deals do not do what a summer sale would. Check back on last years summer sale and the holiday sales. The daily deals are about smaller titles that don't get recognition. The summer and holiday sale are a combination of huge reduction on indies AND on the big budget AAA games which are not part of the daily deals.

Screw it. I don't have any sports games hardly and no B-ball. Got 2k11. JC2 will have to wait a little longer.

Late edit lol - Unless we get a summer sale and it's dirt cheap. WOuld LOVE IT.

monday is our last chance I suppose

Nonsense. They've got all summer to have a summer sale. But then, you were being facetious,
I hope.

I'm holding out for the Christmas
in July
sale myself!

I don't usually go for these kind of complicated space strategy games, but Star Ruler is $5, has a demo, and is apparently continuing to update ala Minecraft. Supposedly you can have your galaxy procedurally generated, have varying tech trees, mod things with text files etc.

I'm going to try the demo, and if it seems fun, I shall buy it with extreme prejudice!

Any opinions on Europa?

Provided you like grand strategy, it's considered best of breed. It'll be significantly more complex than anything you're use to if you have not ventured into the genre, though, Civilization included.

Thanks, ill read up on it. I would only consider myself a casual strategy player, but complexity would be no reason to shy away from it assuming it's a quality product.

There is definitely a lot of quality to be had in this game (its great). But seriously, it was one hell of a weekend to learn it.

Sorry to be a bit OT, but how do you see how many times people have posted in threads like in the OP? I've tried searching for it and haven't had any luck nor have I found it wondering through the forum options.

I just purchased it. Thanks for the tip guys. Sorry Valve, you don't get my money this time.
Technically they have my monies in the form of about 50 in wallet funds. No summer sale makes me sad though.

I've got over 110+ hours put into that game and all of the were well spent.

I have played a lot of 4x games, but none were as complex as EU3. You have a lot of control over your country, right down to how much money you mint and the amount of inflation you have. The game is played out day-by-day with you giving orders to your various agents and armies in a very realistic fashion. It's complex in the number and the depth of it's systems, but none of the complexity is needless. Everything has a purpose (or, at least, an intended purpose).

That said, I would highly recommend not getting the full game on Steam. If you want to get it on Steam, get the EU3 complete pack and NOT CHRONICLES. EU3 complete will get you 2 expansions, In Nomine (IN) and Napoleon's Ambition (NA), both of which have been tested and refined. Chronicles will get you Heir to the Throne (HTTT) which is great and Divine Wind (DW) which is, currently, shit. The problem is that, on Steam, you cannot pick and choose which expansions to install. If you buy the full game or Complete and Chronicles, you'll have to play the Divine Wind version of EU3 and that game is significantly worse than EU3 up to HTTT. Avoid DW for now. It'll probably be fixed in the future, but it's a bad game right now.

EDIT: I have no problems detailing my issues with DW in a PM or another post, but I don't want to derail the topic any more. Blizzard, some impressions of Star Ruler would be great. I'll be getting the demo later, but I can't play for a while. Thanks!

Any idea why my Steam won't launch on either of my Mac's? The account works fine on my PC, but on my Mac's, it shows the login screen, takes my username and password, disappears for a second then reappears with a blank password field.

Sounds like you have SteamGuard enabled. Are you running bootcamp, by chance? I have the same problem if I try running on my XP account that's on a second partition with my Windows 7 install. I'm almost convinced it's locked to one hardware config and multiple partitions confuse it.

EDIT: Reread. It's happening on multiple machines? Yeah, I have no idea. Maybe it just doesn't work for some of us.

I'd like to hear about Divine Wind and I'm sure others would as well. It's not derailing the thread at all, especially since it's on sale right now. Personally I own EU3 Complete+HttT so this is very relevant to me.

Tried to purchase 2k11 on D2D, wanted my phone number to call me to give me a pin and it didn't like my phone number or something. :|

I'm currently studying overseas so I don't have a US phone number at the moment. A quick call to mom solved that. Cheers, mom!

Thanks for the impressions. I was only going to go for the complete pack anyway, good to know I need not spend more for the other content.

So does anyone have anything on Virtua Tennis? I haven't played that series since like...GBA?

I rented it on 360, it's a fun game. A little less arcadey than I remember VT being, because you have to time the shots more carefully now than in VT3. Still much more arcade-like than Top Spin, though.

I didn't play the career mode, but I read it's only a year long, so if that's correct I'm not sure how much playtime you'd get. Most of it would probably be online, and until we see usage numbers in Steam stats I don't know how populated it'll be on PC.

It's a nice price, though. Cheaper than the console versions over here.

I respectfully disagree.
- I think it's certainly not the most complex grand strategy game I've played, I think both Victoria II and Hearts of Iron III somewhat less accessible and much harder to master (let alone earlier games like Victoria I). I offer some screenshots from a recent Hearts of Iron III multiplayer game of mine.

-I also disagree on Divine Wind, while there are issues (Not being able to conquer Japan and the reworked hordes being the two main ones), I think that with the latest beta patch it is a significant improvement over Heir to the Throne. For instance, I strongly prefer the changed building system and the map is obviously quite a lot better than the old one.

On the whole, I think Europa Universalis Chronicles is the best thing you can buy on Steam, and a must play for anyone with an interest in strategy gaming.

Oh, and 285 hours of EU3 here ;), and that's just the ones Steam logged, during the HttT days I regularly played mods which you can't launch via Steam. And these days I keep a separate folder, copied from my steamapps directory, so Steam won't update over beta patches.

NBA 2K11 is £7.50 on D2D UK, but only $7.50 on D2D US, making it about 40% cheaper. Both sites say the game is available for purchase worldwide. Will I get hit with any extra charges if I order from the US site to save the £3 or so?
