Hey, I'm not getting any emails from Steam anymore, does anyone else have this problem? My email is still set to mine, so it's not like my account got hacked. But no receits, no login codes, I don't receive any of these.
Tis merely a byproduct of the massive traffic the summer sale wrought upon their ill prepared servers.

There were an abundance of reports regarding missing receipts, guessing their mail servers couldn't handle the load and official word seemed to be that you'll never receive those either, sorry.

Wonderful. I've downloaded just cause 2 finally, go to run it, I get a splash screen, then cut to black and... back to the desktop. Great. Any ideas? I dont have to download it AGAIN do I? It verifies the files ok.

Any interest in CivCity Rome or Portal?

Thanks, but I already have Portal, and I'm not big on the city building genre. I really just want something awesome that also has 360 controller support. Comfy couch syndrome. I have a burning hatred for sitting up, hunched over the coffee table.

Do you happen to use Windows XP?

Wow, just tried out Transformers. Did not like at all! The controls felt clunky, the enemies were bland, and I didn't understand WTF was going on. Maybe because I never watched Transformers as kid and therefore don't know anyone besides Megatron and Optimus Prime?

I didn't watch G1 either, but I thought it was a pretty serviceable TPS. Controls clunky? A bit since you can't rebind controls for special abilities and such. Did you get the 60 fps unlocker, because that makes a hell of a difference.

The shooting was pretty good, the transforming aspect is nice, especially the air guys (although you can cheese combat cause they have infinite ammo). The further you get in there will be a bit more of enemy variety (like snipers and brutes or regular grunts with rockets and such), though it's still not much. Bosses are pretty good at least. Steam says I got 7 hours out it which is not too bad.

It's the Arkham Asylum of Transformers games mostly because of the license though, not gameplay quality. There are a few parts in the game where it gets super boring and drag on a bit too long while other parts have good pacing. A bit uneven but it was okay. Maybe they'll improve on it in the sequel. Definitely not interested in MP though.

Transformers: War for Cybertron is a decent game.
It is a spectacular Transformers game though.

Is there any way to get Shockwave for the steam version?

edit: I have an interesting problem on my TF game - whenever I use the framerate unlocker the texture cache seems to break. It takes longer to get high res textures in and sometimes just leaves them low res. The longer I play the worse it gets. Problem is that now the game looks like shit at 30hz to me so I dont want to play it without the framerate hack.
It might make a difference that my monitor is 120hz. Is there any way to get TF:WFC to pick a 60hz screen mode instead?

I'm not getting any of the confirmation emails though for the Steam Guard stuff either. I tried opening a Steam Support account with my email adress and I didn't get the confirmation email either. So I created a different Steam Support account with an alternative email address and that however did receive the confirmation email...

I'm seriously considering selling my 360 and just buying games twice a year on Steam, plus in the occasional sale in between on other sites. I just don't see the point in owning the thing anymore.

Same. After this sale, I actually decided not to renew my Gold membership which was up this month. But it was set to auto-renew so they are now holding my account hostage since they couldn't charge my card due to the fact that I canceled the card because of the PSN debacle.

At any other time, I would have cared. But now, if they want to flush the account, I'm not sure it bothers me that much. I have so many great games to play on Steam now, co-op and single player that I don't see myself needing Live anytime soon.

Except for the fact that Guardian Heroes HD comes out in a few months...

Damnit.

I was trying out AC2 after buying it on steam. God, what a cluster fuck that game is. First I have to run that ubisoft DRM shit and I have no idea what the controls are half the time. Oh ok, I'll just press the legs button and the head plus button to run. It even says it when it's teaching you. "Press *fist* to punch". I'll get used to it but right now it just screams "sloppy port". It was $6 though so not a big issue.

Wow. If I were you, I'd take the chance right now to get away from a company who does things this way. I'm so glad I didn't latch onto the 360 when it came out specifically because of Live.

My Gold expired a year plus ago . . . I didn't even notice.

Which is odd, because AC1 had the symbol and the keybind during those situations, so I never really was confused what the puppet buttons were or what to press coming into AC2. If you have a 360 controller it's probably easier since they are colour-coded with the face buttons.

It isn't until Brotherhood though, that they just put the actual key in place of the symbol.

The way they changed the controller icons away from the easy-to-understand icons in AC1* is bizarre. ..but besides those icons, it's a pretty brilliant port.

*or am I just imagining that it was better in AC1? I just got used to it.

If you play with a controller the button mapping makes more sense.

Not sure if i should ask here, but seeing as this is a Steam thread...

I'm currently installing Mass Effect through Steam, but the download rate is ridiculous.

At an average of 100 kb/sec, its going to take me nearly 9-12 hours to install the damn game!

Is Steam always that fucking slow? I'm beginning to regret it now, even downloading Witcher 1 through GOG was faster.

I bet my wireless router has something to do with it, but what to do?

That's why you play it with a controller. I had the same complaint when I first started but now I love it. Some games are meant to be played with a controller and this is one of them.

Sale just ended, lots of other people also buying things and trying to install them. Is only like this for the 2-3 weeks a year that the Summer and Winter Sale are going on.

Change your download region.

Well, I'm used to download at 100kb/s max. It sucks, but I learned to live with it :(

But yeah, Steam servers are probably being hammered. Try changing the download regions in your client's settings.

I know there are a multitude of apps that handle moving Steam data around, but is it possible to move just the Steam application to a different drive and leave the games where they are?

My issue is that Steam is locking up on me constantly, and it's perhaps related to drive performance, as it seems to have gotten worse as I install more games. I'm not sure if moving just Steam would even make a difference as it still has to launch games from the other drive and what not, but maybe it's worth a shot?

It seems this guy has the same problem as me here. Unfortuntely it just seemed to fix itself for him, without any further info given. FML
Try shutting down and restarting sometimes that fixes issues after install.

Crisis aborted. Speed is now at ~500 kb/sec. Dunno if changing the download region to Montreal helped or if its just a less busy Steam, but whatever. :)

Protip for anyone else with Fortix 2: there is a hidden zombie mode that modifies all the campaign levels to feature zombie spawners instead of towers. Zombies track you constantly and can even kill you on the baseline. It's pretty neat.

To unlock it, mouse over the chirping bird on the main menu a bunch of times.

Cthulhu Saves the World/Breath of Death VII combo pack releasing this Wednesday for 3 bucks.

I don't know when I get around to playing it, but at that price, I don't have the heart to not buy at full price.

Wow I had no idea so many old PC games had fan-made patches to up-res, offer widescreen mode, etc. I just patched my Kotor 1, Freespace 2, and VtM: B.

Are there any such patches I'm missing for the rest of my Steam haul from this past sale that you guys would recommend?

Deus Ex 1 & 2
Broken Sword Triple Pack
Dreamfall & Longest Journey
Half-Life 1

Thanks!

I keep hearing about these titles and never knew much about them till recently. I think I may have to get them day 1 to support and try them out finally.

Are you sure it's not due to a poor internet connection? Steam runs like absolute dogshit on a poor connection for whatever reason.

Try going into offline mode and see if it's still sluggish.
