Anybody else playing A.R.E.S.?

I'm working on trying to get S or SS ranks on each stage now.

Beating the fourth boss without getting hit is driving me a little crazy. I think I am just rather unlucky though, because most of his stuff is easily dodged but I keep just slightly missing. Plus, when he drops from the ceiling, I don't know if there's a way to tell which side he will land on which almost always messes me up. I'll give it another shot soon, but thinking of having to do a perfect run of the stage and then luck out on the bosses patterns to get the SS might be a little insane though.

CoH keeps crashing when i click accept after trying to change the graphic settings. any fix for this?

i'm using win7 64-bit and i read there are issues...

This might be a little late, but I wanted to thank everyone for sharing in the excitement and anticipation of the Summer deals. Can't wait to do it again for the Christmas deals haha.

you can do backups but i think he wants his games to be playable across different HDDs.

I just moved Dead Space to another drive and then installed it. It's playable but I can't figure out what drive it's installed on. My SteamApps folder has a short cut to the drive it was moved to. But when I go to properties it points to the C: drive. Hopefully someone can explain how Steam Tool works.

Yeah, you can do that with Steam Tool. That's its entire purpose.

wat? everyone told me that was not possible. was this a recent update? i thought you can only play your library on the same HDD.

Does anyone know if Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light supports a 360/PS3 pad? I can't stand using WASD to control her.

Okay, I got the achievement for beating the fourth boss in A.R.E.S. without taking damage, got his patterns mostly down (even found out which direction he'll drop from the ceiling now) but it's still a crap shoot on me doing it consistently (maybe one in three or so). Luckily, the other aspects of the stage are easy to perfect and it only takes about six minutes to run through it so I figured I can get my SS rank after a few tries.

Tomorrow though. Time to calm down with some Faeries Solitaire before bed.

Ok, follow up question for Lara Croft, does it have local co-op?

Also, will it work using a wireless 360 pad, and a DS3 via motionjoy (wired) in said co-op?

Yes, probably but I've never done it so can't be sure. I've played it local with wireless 360 pad and a wired one, whic is why I say probably.

Prince of Persia Collection looks really dated to me.
Now I'm tempted to get the Remastered Trilogy on the PS3 or something, though I'll lose Prince of Persia 2008 and Forgotten Sands, any suggestions?

Does Hitman: Blood Money look dated?

The "remastered" versions on PS3 have no graphical enhancements beyond resolution, which you get with the PC versions anyways.

Blood Money looks alright, some parts of it actually look quite good, but some things (like the character models) look their age.

Question about KOTOR.

Has anyone gotten the game to run in widescreen mode successfully without the hud being screwed up?

I've tried for the last hour trying to get it to run in 1440x900/1600x900 with no luck. The resolutions work. The hud is the problem. I've tried the 1440x900 hud fix with mo luck.
If you do the HUD fix or the widescreen fix, turn off steam auto updating and add the game as a shortcut.

There is no other alternative. If it doesn't work then, then I have no idea.

I've recently played through Sands of Time and Warrior Within and they look pretty good at 1600x1200 or if you mess with it 1080p although the hud doesn't work right then. I mean, Sands of Time is almost 8 years old, it doesn't look PoP 2008. But I also can't imagine the console remastered versions looking better. Is the HD trilogy running at 720 or 1080? I seem to recall when the trilogy coming out people commenting that the games don't look very good.

All the games support gamepad well enough, although in the first one you have to keep a keyboard nearby since you can't navigate the menus with a gamepad.

edit: oh, and on pc you can use a trainer to make the combat a WHOLE lot less annoying. I hate the combat in those games, and probably would give up half way without trainers to make it fun.

Man, still have some FPS problems with Borderlands. I should be able to max it @ 720p no sweat.

I'm getting 25-30 fps dammit. Someone suggested to turn on Catylist AI in CCC, but that didn't do anything.

The games implementation of SSAO is completely bonjaxed, I shut that off and almost tripled my frame rate with very little discernable difference in visuals.

I thought Ambient Occlusion was pretty obvious.

All the female character models look like porn stars. Which is funny as hell.

Just curious how do you guys back up your game saves?

I usually keep a game saves back up folder. I just copy and paste everything from the my documents or the games directory.

^I may give this game save manger a shot though

15USD for all 5 PoP games is a steal.

Based on the first couple hours, Darksiders is worth considerably more than the $5 I paid for it.

That is all.

Just wondering, how do you guys add your non-steam DOSbox games to steam?

I use a line like this "C:\DOS\DOSBox-0.74\DOSBox.exe" -c [gamename.exe] in the "Target" line of the launcher and my DOSBox config file is altered to mount the directory where the game is located at the start.

Is there a more efficient/better way to add DOSBox games to Steam? Is there a way to have the Dos prompt close automatically once the game is running?

Both of those, off, no real difference. AO does hit me for 6-7 fps, but with it off, I'm hitting ~28.

:/

switch off dynamic shadows, its not as pretty but its a huge leap in fps.

Gamesave Manager http://gsm.duncsweb.com

I have it automatically sync to my dropbox... perfect setup for me, IMO.

It really is pretty fantastic and I cannot recommend it enough. I've come to rely on it so much I get annoyed when it doesn't find a game, or doesn't do it right and I have to go find the save files somewhere buries in apps or whatever.

It's definitely not perfect though, I have had some problems with it in the past, but was always able to fix them easily enough. Haven't set mine up with dropbox yet, though probably will soon. I wasn't aware you could do it automaticlaly, when the feature first came out I'm pretty sure he said it would not work automatically.

Yup. I wholeheartedly agree. The first hour or so is pretty dull, but after that you get into your first dungeon, then it becomes great.

My only complaint is the random difficulty spikes. There's times where the game starts throwing enemy after enemy at you... and most of them not being easy to defeat. But whatever, it's my favorite game I picked up so far in the summer sale.

Yea, there's dropbox support in the options.

However, if you do backup to your dropbox, there's an important setting you need to enable if you haven't done so already.

Those settings highlighted will create a single backup archive for each game, and will only update the ones that have changed since your last update.

Yeah, it's great. I have it set to use my dropbox settings, keep saves in individual archives (so it's not uploading a huge archive to Dropbox every time a single save changes), and then to keep the archives within a subfolder in my dropbox. All being simple checkboxes within the program, with nothing more to do other than remembering to run it once in a while.
