I hear ya. I tried out X3 for the first time last night as well, and I think I've decided it will be a game I play when I have a book (or my phone) with me, ha. But a couple things to keep in mind:

1) Games of this nature intentionally start you off really scrubby. This is so the improvements actually feel good. So the gamer actually appreciates them. Yes it's a bad first impression and yes it's not fun to have to spend literally 5+ minutes to fly anywhere. But it's done this way so the player truly appreciates The value of their first jump drive, for example. And so the feeling of relief/elation when the player gets it is genuinely earned.

2) Missions can be dropped or ignored at any time. Once you saw it was going to take a while and the credit payout was low, feel free to just ignore it. Fly somewhere else and see what else is happening in space.

Here's the good part. It wouldn't let me give the guy the ship when I actually got it back to the station and when the timer ran out it proclaimed the ship stolen and the police came after me and started firing on my ship.

So, I started from a save before I took that mission to avoid it. Bad mission, right? So I continue the guided story mission and they have me go up a ship specifically for my military mission that has NO FUCKING GUNS ON IT and is worse than my original ship. What kind of military is this? The Salvation Army? But I figured, they gave me the ship for this mission it should be fine. So, I switch my guns over to the new ship, my shields all my gear, and go on the mission. The last step, you need to scan a pirate base which launches 5 fighters that immediately blow up my POS. All right it said scan it IF YOU CAN so I go and get the point where my ship sees the pirate base and run away, the fighters chase me down and kill me before I can get to the gate because they are like 3 times faster than me. So, I autopiloted my old ship to me and we'll see how that goes. It's MAGNITUDES better than my new ship. The new ship is slower and worse for engagements. What?

I don't understand why they would give me a ship that's essentially incapable of performing the mission without a massive overhaul that I can't afford at this early time.

Welp, I'm going to have to put off my total A.R.E.S. conquest until another day. All that I have left is to S rank stage five but I can't really manage the boss, I just take too many hits. I managed a score of 8950~ once so if an S is 9000, I guess I am close (or was close).

That extra mission is hard to resist.

Plus it comes with an automatic lockpicking tool, though that seems just a wee bit cheap to use.

As someone who already preordered the deluxe edition from Steam, am I allowed to rage about the mission? :'(

Maybe? I can't believe it's going to be some legendary awesome mission but when a preorder bonus offers actual content I usually go with that retailer, assuming the game is steamworks which this is.

Here's the description:

Additional Mission: Convinced to aid a man who's neither friend nor foe, Adam must work his way through the dangerous Lower Hengsha and save the life of someone he doesn't know. Delve deeper into the Deus Ex mythos with this exclusive side mission featuring a cameo from a classic Deus Ex character.

You can always tell steam to cancel your preorder if you really want it. They should do it with no problems.

I have a dirty secret, I'm hyped as fuck for DX3, but...forgive me...I've never played more than 30 minutes of DXIW and only about an hour or less of DX1. I got to the part where you have to rescue some hostages and I accidentally killed them all. :(

I give it a month before it becomes regular DLC

maybe 2 weeks

What are you waiting for? You have to at least finish 1. No one will fault you for not playing IW, I still haven't touched it to this day.

Probably, but I had a $25 gift card for gamestop so I figured might as well use it on this and get to play it on day 1. Hell if it wasn't for the cameo listed on the description I probably wouldn't have noticed I was doing the dlc mission.

Are the stories connected? I thought it was a stand alone story now?

IW is a sequel to 1 but this game is like 20-30 years before DX1. It'll probably help to play through 1 as I already know some of the references in human revolution but I doubt it'll make much of a difference to your enjoyment of HR. That's the main reason they made this a prequel to begin with, so they could get a fresh start and not be completely tied by a storyline.

I was saying he needed to finish 1 because it's one of the best games ever, top 5 easily.

OMFG I can't believe this deal, $29.60... that's a full $20 less than the lowest price out there for the PC version, and no $10 credit or anything, just a straight 20 bucks off. So glad I logged on tonight lol, was about to go to bed.

My lukewarm distaste for GameStop exceeds even my rage about a preorder DLC mission. :p

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?

Ignore Gvaz. He was sitting there telling people not to buy it the other day knowing nothing about the game other than its graphics and the battle system's resemblance to DQ. He hasn't even played it and is essentially calling the game crap.

Seems the winners for the summer event have been drawn. On the steamforums there is atleast one who claims he won.

I read this and then I got an email notification on my phone. I opened up the Mail app and saw "Steam" and got so excited, until I remembered that I just bought the Cthulhu pack a minute before.

:\

oh my god, according to the steam forums the games are being sent as gifts.

People who tried to gift me things during the sales know that my gift system is busted and apparently i cant recieve gifts for some reason, not even through email. I sent a support ticket but nothing.

I NEVER HAD A CHANCE TO WIN

Is there any way to quicksave in Magicka? I don't play the game because I usually play in smaller intervals and I can't finish the levels in one sitting because I play 30-60 minutes only.

I've only seen friends play it, but as far as I know, there's only checkpoints saves and the "new room" save, as in, when you change scene.

The problem is that checkpoints won't save, if you die you resume from the checkpoint, but if you quit the game you have to restart the whole level, if the game actually saved at checkpoints that would be fine, then add a simple option to restart the level if you want, I don't know why don't they.

Actually, I couldn't agree more. That's kind of messed up, as far as I know the levels tend to be semi long as well? And if you're doing it solo(presumed) I can totally see that being a pain in the bum. You'd have to resort to NES-style of play, leave the game on until next time!

Yes, a couple days ago I wanted to play before going to work, I played for 45 minutes and had to quit, replaying that 45 minutes is not something I'm specially looking forward.

So this means I can take all the games off my wishlist now?

Sucks that you couldn't win. Thanks for the awesome threads.
