"they sucked" isn't very descriptive; what were the problems with them? As far as I know, quite a few people enjoy them, so you might be an exception in thinking they sucked.

Frozen Synapse does not suck.
It sure does.
With all due respect, this doesn't really answer the question of why. It's just a repetition of what you already said, with no explanation. Perhaps you don't like the game, but it doesn't objectively suck?

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines is fucking fantastic so far. Definitely the best game I bought in the sale. If you didn't buy it or already own it...what the hell is wrong with you? :p

I actually have the game, but I uninstalled it. I'm finding it hard to get past the clunky combat, but I may give it another whirl as so many people are recommending it highly.

It was boring. Boring game= it sucks. I shouldn't have to put in my opinion on everything for people to know it's my opinion. There is no such thing as an objectively good game.

edit: There's people on this forum who say they only play indie games and they're not pestered about it so I don't know why I can't have the opposing views. As much as I complain about AAA games being dumbed down compared to previous gens they still offer experiences that indie developers obviously cannot compete with due to money and manpower problems.

I think they're just curious.

I can understand if it's because a particular indie game is lacking in a) gameplay complexity (too arcadey), b) big budget production values, or c) polish. It's a legitimate reason to dislike a particular game and understandable.

Very few indie games have the budget for all three of the above.

Paradox games have complexity and depth, but are usually lacking in either polish and/or production values, although Crusader Kings seems to be a cut above the rest. Hard Reset does well in two of the categories, but it's linear and lacks other [RPG-ish] things to do in the game.

Paradox is a major publisher on PC though. They're not as big as someone like Ubisoft obviously but on PC they're one of the major players. Also as an aside Crusader Kings 2 is my goty so far, love that game. If Paradox is considered indie then indie developers now have someone they should be trying to be like.

I still don't trust the popular GAF opinion on a lot of things, but man you were right about Driver: San Francisco. I'm 99% a sim racer but damn, Driver was fun. I remember testing the demo last year and wasn't impressed at all. I think it was the race where you had to finish first and second but I didn't know about any of the gameplay mechanics so I just tried to drive both cars at the same time. Very frustrating when one car always dropped from first to fourth when I was trying to get the other car from fourth to second. Also Driver is arcade racing done right, the cars feel like actual cars with proper weight and everything but don't require too much effort to pull off great movie stunts, drifts and what not. I could never get into games like the latest Hot Pursuit or Burnout series because the driving has almost nothing to do with.. well, driving. Flatout games before the third one are great too - proper arcade racers but with driving model that simply feels good to drive.

One of the great things that has happened to PC gaming in the past few years is improved gamepad support. For some games it's simply the best control method but even few years ago a lot of games on PC simply didn't support gamepads or the support was terrible at best. Now when there's a game I might want to use gamepad with, like Driver or Bastion, it usually works right out of the gate. Some games even go the extra mile and change on screen messages on the fly based on whether you are using kb+mouse or a gamepad. Now you all knew this already, but I had to say it again.

I don't think PC gaming has ever been this good and I've never been anything but a PC gamer. The previous golden era, roughly 1998-2001 had SOME great games but a ton of garbage and with the rise of PS2, it was downhill for years. Now I have a backlog of maybe a hundred games and I'm pre-ordering more almost weekly.

Ok, this post was about three different things but I was inspired by Driver to write something here.

King's Bounty: Armored Princess is part of the Indie Gala. Would have to pay $1.93 extra but you'll get a bunch of other crap for it. Not sure if it's worth it for you guys or not but just thought you should be aware.

I am really starting to like GMG for their awesome deals.

As long as it activates on Steam of course. :p

That and I got Borderlands 2 for a dirty price of $35 - 50% off day 1 is crazy, it will never be at that price for 1 year maybe more....

The combat is definitely the weakest element in the game. Thankfully, the game allows you to avoid combat for the most part (like Deus Ex).

It's mostly because it becomes been there done that if you absolutely need to play every single class and something about the multiplayer/local co-op or something on the consoles. Going back to playing every class, It'll be nice but I'm going to assume after a while you'll be going "No, not that interested anymore".

But for one or two full play-throughs, the value is definitely there at the sale price.

Okay... I'm a one and done kinda guy, so I never replay games. And co-op isn't really my thing either, I guess maybe that's why I'm digging it more than than most. But yeah, well worth the sale price for sure.

How did you get it for 35 on gmg? I know we can get it for 32$ from a uk gaffer 4pack but I have had no luck finding one.

It's a thing they've been rolling out slowly since the release of Witcher 2 (though they were planning it before the Witcher 2, I believe).

Basically, it affects how games are updated and it should allow for individual parts of files to be updated, as opposed to the entirety of the file being updated.

Here's the news update from a year ago:

Over the years, Steam has delivered a lot of bits to a lot of people. Delivering content is really at the core of Steam, and we have been working on improving that core. As of today, you can download some of the content on Steam using all-new server and client code to get the job done.

The new content system is designed to do two things: deliver better download rates in more places around the world, and also to simply streamline the publishing process on Steam, ultimately making it possible to ship more games than we would have been able to with the old system.

The maximum aggregate bandwidth of the system will be greater than the current system; this will help us satisfy spikes in demand when there’s a big release. We will also be able to send content from more places, to better serve people all around the globe. All the content on the new system is sent via HTTP; this is more firewall-friendly than the current system, and will automatically take advantage of web-caching proxies installed at ISPs.

Another way that the new content system improves the bandwidth picture is by requiring each user to download less data. With the Steam content system that’s been in place for a few years now, if an individual file on disk were modified by a game update, your client had to download the whole file. That can be painful when the file in question is really large. The new system supports delivering only the differences between the old and new files, meaning game updates will be much smaller overall.

These changes have given us an opportunity to write new tools for game developers and content publishers that simplify the process of both publishing and updating a game on Steam. Simplifying the publishing process means it takes the partner and us less time to ship each product, so we can ship more stuff to more users.

In addition, the new content system will allow us to build several new features that we’ve often heard requested. Upcoming client releases will include things like download scheduling, bandwidth throttling, and prioritizing which games get downloaded first. You’ll also be able to download an update to a game while you’re playing that game; Steam will apply the update after you exit the game.

Over time, more and more of the content on Steam will be delivered using this new system. Soon, Dota 2 will be delivered using it. In the meantime, if you’d like to try out this new content system you can do so right now; if you download a 1280x720 (HD) trailer from the store, it will happen via the new content system. Give it a try!

Edit: Darn. Beaten.

Using this code PARTP-ALCNO-TIESU brings it down to $40. Then I had $5 trade in-credit from some random free games I got from a newspaper promotion from last year. Tower Bloxx Deluxe and some other game I didn't care for.

Which still is blowing my mind at the moment as 50% off day 0 is pretty crazy.

Damn, the Darkness II looks pretty on PC. Only put it in for a few minutes to check out how it runs and it is really nice.

Do you guys think Borderlands 2, Sleeping Dogs, Dishonored, and all of the other cross platform games will require much more of a rig than Darkness II?

Ah cool, I will just pay the 40. Too difficult trying to find 4 packers.

I don't expect Borderlands 2 or Dishonored to require much more if any than DS2. Sleeping Dogs is harder to tell, open city games tend to have beefier specs at least as far as recommended specs go.

Interesting info.

(I always thought the new content delivery system thing was a result of Dungeon Defenders)

So how is King's Bounty: Armored Princess? Noticed this is on the Indie Gala too. Oh wow, good description here.
My last HoMM game was the second one and I came in enjoying KB very much. I can't speak for the rest of the stuff in the Platinum Pack as I picked up KB from the Indie Gala bundle.

I personally enjoyed having just one hero to control a bunch of units as that's more or less what I did in HoMM2 to a lesser extent. Also, you do have a pet that get's to aid you in battle outside of your unit's movements as long as it's one of your unit's turns.

It's mostly one hero many units, RPG elements where you have a skill tree for bonuses and quests to pick up and do, and the open area where you run around on your horse collecting bonuses and gold and what not from the odd tree stash or shrine or NPC.

Edit: The demo did a really poor job for first impressions for me with the overall game feel since I already knew how the combat with these work. They you fly on your horse and that didn't make any sense at the time. Now that I've played it some, it makes total sense and is very welcome when I get it whenever that is.

Prototype, you're Superman, the Flash and a Japanese tentacle porno cartoon all wrapped up in one...buuuuuuuuuut you're better off using tanks and guns. I don't get it.

When I install Steam to a slave drive instead of my OS drive, will it still store save files in the same "Mu Documents" folder on the SSD, or will they end up somewhere else?

Man. I played Oblivion on the PS3 and loved it but it hurt my head.

Spent the last hour and some getting out of the starter zone and my head hurts like I've been using night vision the entire time. At least I could sit farther away on the console.. because the PC doesn't recognize the right stick and triggers so the monitor is much much closer... =(

If I were able to play Oblivion for more than an hour, I at least appreciated the PC mods that were there that aren't available on the PS3 version.

Oh, I've been trying to mod the damn thing since I bought it during the sale. For some reason everything sort of clicked today and I started getting some mods in. I just can't seem to find a nice middle ground for the mouse being not too sensitive but not too sluggish right now.

I won the war with the hair, but not so much with the faces. I have no idea how the faces are supposed to work if the mod worked anyway or if we're supposed to slider our way into Anime heaven.

if you are going to play those games immediately, GMG really has some of the best preorder deals.

i kinda regret jumping on them so early (with all the credits).. only to see them go on sale now.. and still haven't touch those games

well I am a bit interested in kings bounty: armored princess but I already spent a lot of money this month (steam sale and indie royale) so I wanted to ask if anybody is interested in trading the game for 2 of the following steam keys I have for it
Geneforge saga
Puzzle Agent
Mutant storm reloaded

I know there is a steam trading board I already posted in there, but that thread isn't as lively so I decided to also post this in here, thanks in advance

LF a group for a UK Borderlands 2 4-Pack. Also, anyone know of any place to find ArmA II CO at a discount? I realize now the error of my ways and not buying it in the sale *sob*
