What the fuck.

These are the reasons I can never actually like Valve like many do, they may be nicer than most, but then they pull shit like this...

Companies are companies. There's inherent things to being one that arguably shouold prevent anyone from LIKING them to a point of mindless adoration.

That said, Valve has a track record of thinking about the customer, always putting it first (to the point of working with them and just giving them tons of money) and never really making a mess on YOUR end when a situation like this happens.

They've earned the right to make people go "mhhh.. alright" instead of jumping the gun with accusations by being the less of many evils in an XBOX/EA, etc gaming world.

stuff like this just makes me go: "oh, that's right. Valve's still a private company, it's not all made of rainbows and sunshine" and carry on with my life knowing that there's a really small chance this would ever affect me in any way, and that the people in charge at Valve is the same as it's always been.

I'm sad about the license agreement updates since I'd rather things were more transparent in regard to Valve, but I don't really have another option to keep playing the games already on the account, so of course I went along with it.

Also, I just had a Steam moment, where I figured I should go to the store to buy Orcs Must Die 2. But apparently I already own it, because apparently I preordered it a couple of weeks ago. Okay, I got the deluxe book of unwritten tales today instead. :p

When you see the kind of bullshit like what is going on with the Netflix class action lawsuit you can understand why companies do this. Basically lawyers creating a class action lawsuit just so they can collect massive attorneys fees. And you are included as a plaintiff in the class action lawsuit by default. And if you look here you will see how much work it is for you to get your name off of the lawsuit.

It's a bunch of bullshit. Class action lawsuits are one of the greatest tools provided to citizens, and to see greedy ass lawyers ruining the process for everybody.

I understand why they do it, besides the fact that they're legally allowed to. People in the US can get so sue happy that they think by doing this they can eliminate potential future problems beforehand. It really is a case of the few fucking it up for everyone.

But then I again I fully expect to never run into a problem with Valve that requires a lawsuit. So I can live with this.

Shit like all the rest of the gaming corporations have already pulled?

Don't get me wrong it's shitty thing they just pulled, but many others have already started the same practice, which again does not make it right for Valve to follow the herd

In the end the value Steam currently gives to me outweigh the negatives.

still, I bet very few people clicked "I disagree" today:

I'll agree with everything, that's why I dislike most companies that do these kind of stuff (and most companies in general). And clicking "I disagree" is very hard when it's agree or lose all your games. All the ToS are shit by definition.

edit: I don't hate Valve, I get it that they're a company just like the rest of them. I simply feel bad about having to give them a free pass for shitty stuff because they're otherwise really cool. I'd rather I didn't have to waiver some of my legal rights to play my games, and that it was just business and sales as usual.

So I played the first chapter of The Book of Unwritten Tales tonight. The puzzles so far have been item related. Collect a bunch of items, combine them, one them on objects. Nothing hard at all. Characters have been pretty charming and funny. The humor in general has been very good, better than I was expecting. There's even a Monkey Island reference at one point. Graphically, the game is gorgeous.

I'm not entirely in the mood to play an adventure game right now but I wanted to at least play a part of the game to see how it is. Not sure when I'll continue on to finish it but from what I've seen so far I'm pleased.

Guys,

Since when was Fall of Cybertron announced for PC? I thought the devs said there would be no PC version? Now its on steam for preorder!

Man, Transformers sounds like the kind of game I'd rather just play on consoles, I can't stand phoned in PC ports to the point they can't even get button prompts changed. Well, I guess a mod could come out, but until then (or the game is like $2 or 3) I'll sooner wait on a used deal at GameStop. Then again it DOES sound boring and I'm tired of where shooter design's gone anyway.

Wait yall are dissing Cybertron? It's a great throwaway game, I enjoyed the campaign and played it multiple times, you just can't play it alone.

Just beat Binary Domain, entertaining game. It's like a weird mash-up of Gears of War with the echoes of a side scrolling 8/16bit shooter taking over for the ridiculous boss fights. Every time I got to a boss fight I felt like I had traveled back in time and was holding a SNES controller in my hand. In the main levels Binary Domain feels like almost every other cover-based, third person shooter that's out on the market the boss fights and the crazy procedural damage system and how enemies react to their damage are what set it apart.

I don't know if I would praise it as highly as I've seen some do but it was a pretty entertaining game. I'd buy a sequel if they actually put one out.

So I've got a steam folder on my laptop with 600GB worth of archived downloads of my games library and I'd like to add them to my Desktop's original steam folder without overwriting the Steam settings in my Desktop?

Do i just copy over the common folder, or should I go game by game, 1 by 1.

Clicked agree on Steam's new subscriber agreement after it updated.
The Software is licensed, not sold. Your license confers no title or ownership in the Software.
Hey Valve, as long as I can play my games. We don't got a problem. I'm aware about the class action lawsuit clause they put in.

That's always been in there. It's why purchases are considered subscriptions, not transfers of ownership.

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
Will the new Agreement-thingy change anything :(?

Universal Access can be found under System Preferences
There's a slightly annoying issue with The Book of Unwritten Tales. Even though I can play the game from my library, it appears it was never purchased in my blotter history. It also shows that I do not own it under my All Games tab in my profile. As a result there are issues with some people just seeing me "in game" when playing it and not what I'm playing, and it can't track the playtime on my profile. It's not just me, either. I've looked at friends who've purchased the game and they also don't own it in their profile game list.

Hoping this will resolve itself, but I sent off a message to Steam support in case. The game itself is wonderful though.

It's not what's in the new ToS that kinda pisses me off about this, but I don't like that the steam games I've bought over the years are held hostage until I agree to a ToS I don't know I want to agree to. I can't boot in offline mode, I can't bring up any of my games at all now until I agree to this bull shit. I'm not really liking that.

Let me play in offline mode, let me not have access to the server features if I don't agree, but I feel I should be entitled to play the games I currently have installed on my PC.

Semblance

shhh Graham I'm still compiling this Radiant map
Wrapped up Driver San Francisco. Not bad! Dunno about the
curveball car-tossing
at the end there, and my hours played on Steam wasn't properly tracked for some reason, but whatever. Worth the sub-$10 and however many hours I spent running through it. Cars and handling felt just right.

I am plowing through my backlog lately. Feels good, mang.

Yes. This is what indefensible about their support. I could handle the slowness if the replies were quality. But all you normally do is wait 3 days for some shitty form response that doesn't even come close to answering the question. If you're going to have a small support staff, hire quality people who have reading comprehension skills. That they have not only a really small staff, but an incompetent one is what's the kicker.
Wonder if they're going to find a way to crowdsource tech support. Well they kind of already do since that's what the Steam forums are for. They can't really do that for things that require someone to look at your account and fix something.

How is that? You can't send a gift anymore?
Hmm I quickly glanced at that last night and thought it was only some legalese about lawsuits and such. I don't think I saw anything in there about cross-regional gifting?

I don't think the new TOS bans cross regional gifting it just bans people using VPN's to buy from other stores and I believe that term was already there. If they wanted to ban cross regional gifting they wouldn't have to put it as a term as they could just as easily block you from doing so via the client.

Just an update on my support situation 4 days later I got a reply for information to unlock my account. Not sure how long it will take them to actually read that and unlock it. They can't outsource account security related issues to volunteers, it is a simple solution either hire more internal support staff or contract another provider. Obviously they prefer not spending any more than they have to so the current support staff is deemed to be sufficient for 10's of millions of users.

That sentence was just a joke, don't take it too seriously :) Proxy servers, VPNs etc have been banned for quite some time now so I suspect there might be something else in it.

Your account should be unlocked now, it's a new month now so new limits as well.
