I took a bunch of DS3 shots I wanted to share, but I did them with Fraps and they're all over 13mb. Can't find a site that will accept them.

This game is really pretty when you downsample it. Also almost never drops below 100 fps. I had to force vsync to keep it at 60.

So, guys, sale on Origin.

Any of the NFS games there are any good? Should I get Saboteur and Syndicate? Any DLCs I should get for Amalur?

Download IrfanView and convert them to 1080P PNGs

And never use imgur for game/blu-ray screenshots, they compress horribly.

You are having the same experience I had with the game.

Now consider going through that all again...three more times... to get up to date with the series.
That sounds like all the circles of Dante's hell combined in a single gaming franchise. Why did you play the rest then? Even if the setting of AC3 tempts me, I'll never touch any of these games again. I've had enough for a lifetime (20 hours, just beat the part where I was at at the moment of my previous post, and of course the game hasn't ended yet).

Euro prices here in South America. Which is stupid because we never buy stuff in euros, only US dollars.

And it's doubly stupid because they are selling Battlefield 3 for 9,88 €, The Sims 3 (vanilla, of course) for 8,98 € and Dead Space 3 for 19,98 € (what a bargain, I'm such a fool for paying $1 on the latest Humble Bundle!). I'm wondering if someone will bite.

Tbh I didn't. I played 5 minutes of brotherhood and thought "nope, not doing this again".

Everything I've read suggested I bailed out of the series at the right time.

Guys, seriously now. Does Assassin's Creed 2 ever end? I've played for over 19 hours now, and the fucker is still going on!

I remember, a long time ago, when this was a game I was really liking and enjoying a lot, hoping it'd never grow stale. Well, it didn't. It grew rotten instead, way past the expiration date. I want this to end. Now. What at first appeared to be a mild boredom has now grown to become the beginnings of true hate. I don't want to hate this game, and I want to finish it. But it is making it so hard for me to avoid the former and achieve the latter, incredibly hard indeed.

And I haven't touched a single side mission, apart from the optional temples (nice change of pace, even if the platforming feels a little "automatic"). So I can't begin to imagine how long this would take if I wanted to 100% it.

I'm dead serious, if this game lasted 10 hours less it would have been amazing. Right now, I'd rank it a little below "acceptable". Though that may be unfair, because when it was still good, it was good. So yeah, it's not bad at all, but at this point it has become mind-numbingly boring and repetitive and tedious and unbearable. And yet I'm glad I finally got to play it.

I did not enjoy Assassin's Creed 2 for the exact reasons you just stated.

If it had been 8 hours, I could have dealt with the extremely streamlined gameplay. Press X to win and A to awesome gets really old after a while.

Like you, I also stuck to it through to the end because people say its the best game in the series. I'm done with Assassin's Creed permanently after that game.

I got 100% on AC2 and I have not felt like going back to the series. It was all I needed to see from it.

Just finished Condemned. Great game, except for that last area up to the final enemy. Eesh, I like the combat, but not enough to go through an entire gauntlet of erratic and super powerful bruisers. I managed to make it through to the end though. Like I said before, great game but with flaws. That ending cinematic O_O

I never felt AC2 as a long game

or at least the story for me was good enough to not care, plus, since you could play in at least 4-5 different citiies

It's too bad Ubi just keeps making games for the lowest common denominator. I didn't even know denominators could be that low.
We should do custom box arts with quotes from GAF instead of game reviews.

Any good roguelikes on Steam? I was looking at Hack Slash Loot, but figured I'd ask to see if there were any better options I may have overlooked.

Dungeons of Dredmor, like many already recommended, although I couldn't get into it myself and dropped it after a couple of hours (Shiren the Wanderer spoiled me for all roguelikes). Some roguelike geeks I have read around the forum seem to like Sword of the Stars. I wish I could find the links, but search on the forum and you'll find the thread.

Oh sorry then, I misunderstood the "Now consider..." part as if you were relating your experience. I'd like to like these games, because the settings are great and they seem to be entertaining... for a while. But I can't imagine putting myself through all of this again, just like what happened to you when starting BroHood.

Yup, which is a shame because it could have been a great game overall, with a little (OK, with much) trimming, more mission variety (can't imagine how could that be, though) and less escorting missions and traveling from one end to the other of the city, which got old after the 3rd time I was forced to do it.

The worse part is that I was enjoying the gameplay, because it's a bit different than that of the games I'm used to play. But it alone can't carry a 20-ish hours game (and that's only counting the story missions) and prevent it from getting stale, especially when it isn't too original itself. A more focused 10 hours game with smaller cities, less time-wasting traveling and less (or none at all) in-game (which means non-skippable) cutscenes and/or scenes where you have to walk slowly along a random character would have been fantastic. Sadly it seems AC4 will go the same way, at least according to a thread I read earlier today that said its story will also last 20 hours or so.

Haha, there are still ~18 hours until it unlocks here. I can't even use SAM to idle for cards. :(

this is simply lovely.
sigh JaseC, what would you do for a 1-on-1 fan meeting with Saoirse Ronan
would you give up your entire Steam Library?

That's a tough one...

It's why I'm cautious about Watch Dogs.

I adore the concept, but I fear that it will be just as tedious as their other games.

One of the developers said there's less filler content than in Ubi's previous open-world titles, but who knows to what extent it's true.

Edit:

The two content-expanding DLC expansions, Teeth of Naros and Legend of Dead Kel, are apparently quite good. I've been meaning to play through them myself.

Avoid Hack Slash Loot at all costs; I've played it and it's not even up to par with most of the free tile-based roguelikes available.

Dungeons of Dredmor is your best bet for a traditional roguelike. It's the best one on Steam. Sword of the Stars: The Pit is a solid sci-fi/gun themed traditional roguelike but notably more difficult and rough around the edges.

For great roguelike-like or "lite" games people like to debate the categorization of all the time on GAF, but that are wonderful games with many roguelike qualities regardless--Binding of Isaac, Rogue Legacy & FTL. These are not turn-based, though I enjoyed the former two in large part because I'm a big fan of roguelikes, so I'd want people to mention them to me if I asked.

Apparently Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space is supposed to be roguelike as well, but I haven't played it so I can't vouch for it.

I'm not paying any attention to the story anymore, grew tired even of that. And all the cities felt exactly the same, with the only difference being that a few had water in the middle, making traversing them even more annoying.

You haven't experienced annoying traversal until you've had to trudge through AssCreed 3's frontier during the winter periods. Snow slows you down considerably and while the tessellated snow trails look nice, it's incredibly frustrating when you have to get off the beaten track and it now takes you twice as long to get anywhere.

(Let me pre-order Black Flag's DDE already, Ubi.)

Alright, I decided to just say fuck it and upload them in 1620p. Minus was the only site I could get them on, so they'll be slow to load if you view them in their full size.

Dead Space 3 is a pretty game and you should play it. Early game spoilers (all taken within the first 45 minutes). I'm playing on a 670 with an i5-3570k, no OC. Pretty modest. Even with everything maxed and downsampled, I rarely dip below 100 fps. Had to force vsync in the Nvidia control panel, because it pointlessly running my fan too loud to pull a framerate that I don't need. Now it's nice and quiet.

I finished the game on 360 and enjoyed it for what it was, it's definitely different than Dead Space 1 and 2, more of a shooter and less horror, but it was fun nontheless and highly recommended in my opinion.

Are you downsampling?

Use Photoshop to resize those images in 1080p. I believe they are all using bicubic sharper.

Can you play through the whole game in co-op? Or only certain sections?

You can play through the whole game in coop, some cutscenes come across a bit weird in single player as it's obviously meant to be played in coop.

Personally I don't think it's worth the bother, I hated it. Easily my biggest disappointment this year.

Yeah, it's not a horror game anymore. It's an action game with some horror elements. The first is my absolute favorite game, the second is a slight step down in certain aspects that made me love the first (I loved the atmosphere and claustrophobia of the Ishimura), and the third is a fun romp that takes the story into absurdly stupid territory. I'm okay with that. They wouldn't have been able to top the story of 2 anyway.

I don't have Photoshop, sadly. I tried using IrfanView and it applied a slight vaseline filter that, while not major, detracted from the shots. I don't know what else to do.

Yep, whole thing is co-op. Or not. I played a bit of both tonight. The beginning feels more geared towards singleplayer, but the second half of the game is obviously made for two people. I enjoy it more with a buddy, so we can make fun of the story.

DS2 totes has one of the best endings this gen. Steam dodged a bullet not getting DS3.

Just Cause games + JC2 DLC for 80% off now.

Too many stuff to play T_T

You can avoid playing the original Just Cause. The games rely on their over-the-top gameplay to keep players engaged rather than the (barebones) narrative and the sequel improves upon the original in every single way.

Yeah, I might just go with JC2 here.

By the way, I remember the 360 version of Just Cause looking amazing for its time. Motion blur, cloud shadows rolling over the terrain, etc. Were these things ever patched into the PC version?

Huh. Did something break, jshackles? I deleted the chrome extension and installed it again to be sure. My greens are gone. I cleared cache, checked settings and they are not saving. All are unchecked.

Yes, the PC version has all the fancy effects.

You've reminded me that RDR has fantastic cloud shadows. Pity about that PC version. :(

Edit: As far as mods are concerned, here's what I used:

- Less psychic police
- Unlimited Ammo (ammunition.bin so reloading is still necessary -- this may seem rather cheap but having to restock after each and every mission/town/stronghold/etc. gets old fast)
- Triggered Bombs Collection (small mushroom cloud in particular)
- No Blackmarket Cutscenes
- Increased Grapple Range & Speed (I tried longer/unlimited variants but the tether had a tendency to break quite easily)
- HD Improved Clouds

If you want to go nuts, there's the likes of the BOLO mod and Superman mod. (You'll need to register an account to bypass the daily download limits.)
