Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Well I enjoyed the Steam sales 'cause I enjoyed playing different games and getting achievements for prizes at the same time. I'm just wondering if this invokes the same feeling. Kinda sounds like it does. Oughtta set it up tonight. Thanks you guys.

I guess it depends on whether or not you have or enjoy the games they feature. But yes, it's very similar.

Good luck guys! All the keys should be working, but I can't promise anything.

Did you log on your GMG account?

That has nothing to do with the credits being detected -- merely for the credit to transfer from playfire to GMG.

If he was playing at the time it was scanning, he may well have unlocked achievement a and then had the scan check his profile for achievements before he unlocked b. Since it scans about once a day as far as I can figure, there's a delay based on when you complete them.

Here's an example that demonstrates from my account:
✔09 Apr '14 You unlocked Escort Service in Halo: Spartan Assault £0.10
✔09 Apr '14 You unlocked Slight Silver in Sleeping Dogs™ £0.10
✔09 Apr '14 You unlocked Play It Again Sam in Monaco £0.50
✔09 Apr '14 You played Broforce for the first time! £0.10
✔09 Apr '14 You unlocked Prodigy in Halo: Spartan Assault £0.25

The Halo Spartan Assault achievements were done in the same was as the other poster's Monaco achievements -- but it took an extra day to show up because of when I was scanned, so they're not right next to each other in my list (and I had to wait a good number of hours (most likely a full day) for it to catch up).

I'd also add that the BLACKLIST rule searches community permanent block lists and auto-magically blocks people that other community members have, in aggregate, identified was abusers. So if you don't want to bother keeping track of who is up to sketchy stuff, you can outsource to the wisdom of the crowd~

Two questions, Stump:
(1) Do you moderate the BLACKLIST? I remember having a discussion about what would happen if someone blacklisted a poster for a petty reason and whether or not that would put them on the community blacklist so they would be blocked from some giveaways unfairly... and the community seemed to think the BLACKLIST was moderated to prevent this sort of thing.
(2) Unrelated, but is there any easy way to query modbot for the list of games you've given away? I was trying to figure out my numbers and now I know how many I've taken but I really don't want to sit here and try to sort through the receipts and stuff to try to figure out the giveaway #.

Playfire be like

"yeah, I know you have almost all those Arkham City achievements; so what?"

I think what's going on is that it's tracking ACGOTY, not AC.

Also, I only have the $0.10 credit I got from buying a game a while back. The GPB 0.20 (I should have more, but that's all it shows for now) hasn't been reflected yet. Reached out to support to see what's up.

I'm not quite that extreme.

Does permablock work retroactively? Like... hey, 21 games, okay, Kupi's had his fun, if I submit now, will that ensure he won't be able to pick up games I've already submitted, or is it only for the future?

Is there a way to unpermablock if, at some point, I suddenly have a change of heart?

Do your GMG and playfire emails match? If not, that's a HUGE mistake.

I spent MONTHS getting it reconciled with GMG/Playfire support and eventually abandoned my original playfire account and got the kind support team to move all the uncredited rewards to my new functioning account.

I'd rather not pester them needlessly, but if I do, have any of you guys had to contact them? Does that fix your account forever or do you need to keep emailing them every week?

http://youtu.be/h0_vTUnokNU?t=38s

It took several tickets and a lot of patience to get my issues resolved... but now that everything's all working, I've been set since. I think one of my achievements (Yaiba - complete Nightmare mode) that was unlocked within minutes of the deadline didn't credit, but It was probably $0.50 max, so I didn't bother with an email to support about it.

I remember in college when there were big open dorm events that had free pizza there were always 2 or 3 guys you'd see jumping in line early and grabbing like 8+ slices and running off to their room to put the extras in the fridge. People farther back in the line didn't get any. I don't think those guys understood how they were being rude either.

I believe permablocks will work retroactively, yes.

No, by design. Use ad-hoc per-giveaway blocking if you're not confident enough to block someone permanently.

Jeez guys its not like I hacked modbot and stole them.

I think, much like every time this issue has arisen, it's how you react to being called out.

Each time, when people fall back on "I can do it, tough luck" it hasn't gone well.

One guy eventually showed good faith and nuked keys and made a few giveaways, but the damage is done.

Moderate? No. But there are technical measures put in place that prevent this from happening (enough people need to block the person for the person to make the BLACKLIST, people's blocks are scored differently depending on a few factors that disincentivize blocking people willy-nilly to game the system) and the few times I've checked who was on the list, it's been abundantly obvious why they were on the list.

I thought my loot did, but if it doesn't, I'll try to add that functionality some time this weekend.

I have no idea how playfire works.

I somehow unlocked these rewards, but I have no money from GMG for it:

And how do those "play X game for the first time" achievements work? Is it just for launching the game? Because I just did that for Dear Esther but nothing unlocked.

edit: just noticed corrosivefrost's post above. How often does it scan for rewards, anyone know?

You need to log into your GMG account for the credits to transfer over. It takes time for the system to give you credit, and a bit more for it to transfer over.

Apparently I have USD$5.70 waiting to be transferred over. I might pre-order Murdered: Soul Suspect after all.

I think most people agree there's a reasonable limit on what you should grab. If I saw stuff wasn't being picked up on an old give away, I'd probably post a link to it somewhere in the chat and say "hey guys, just a head's up..."

I mean, my posts have pretty heavily indicated I wasn't cool with eight, much less twenty-one, and instead of going "oh, yeah, I guess I have had a bit much," your response is "well, I'm not breaking the rules, and I'ma keep on acting like this."

I can't speak for anyone else, but personally, I have a big issue with people who seem to think that things are okay just because they're not explicitly forbidden. That's not how things work. There's more to being a cool person than just "not breaking any rules."

Mhmm, Chaos Theory is really good. Feels good to get back into SC after a decade.

I really need to fire this one up.

Picked up like the first four Splinter Cell releases on console during their respective launches, but haven't touched the series since.

During the recent Tom Clancy sale, Chaos Theory was the only title I felt compelled to nab.

With regard to Dead Island: Epidemic, if you redeem a gift copy/activate a key now whilst it is in closed beta, it'll add to your game count and stay there even after it's made F2P and added to sub 0. Once the game is added to sub 0, however, keys/gifts will no longer work as Steam will consider you to "own" it; they'll be useless until the servers are shut down or it's otherwise pulled from said sub.

No need for external tools, especially when you have no idea whether they don't include malware.
Simply rename the .bat to .exe, add that to Steam, rename the .exe back to .bat and edit Steam shortcut properties to the correct extension.

How would I go about creating a batch file from the files? They're all .he files and run through ScummVM.

How would I go about creating a batch file from the files? They're all .he files and run through ScummVM.

Follow this example:

Next, we need to create a batch file to run ScummVM. The main reason for doing this is that the command line you will use to run the game in ScummVM is quite hairy, and you don't want to have to type it in every time you want to play. So... open Notepad, or whatever your favourite text editor is, and copy and paste the following command line right into it:

c:\scummvm\scummvm.exe -f -g hq2x --aspect-ratio -pD:\SimonI simon1

The above assumes that you installed ScummVM to the place I recommended. Adjust accordingly if otherwise. The '-g hq2x' and '--aspect-ratio' parameters are graphics settings that blend all the otherwise blocky pixels together nicely on today's larger monitors. Unfortunately, the talkie version of Simon the Sorcerer does not have subtitles, or we could have also chucked a '-n' on the command line to turn them on. Also, if you don't have the same version of the game as I have, you will have to locate the folder on the CD that contains the game executables. It may not be SimonI.

Save that command line (Save As...) to this file:

C:\simon1\simon1.bat

Make alterations where necessary/desired (e.g. you may not be a fan of the hq2x filter so you can leave that out or replace it with something else).

Hm, I just logged in. Don't see my credit there. Do I have to wait for them to process it, like the playfire rewards? Or do I have to do anything else, like somehow import data from playfire?

Yes. Logging into GMG triggers the transfer process, which can take up to a day or two.

Those were questions for him to ask himself.....

I mean they are pretty obvious.

Serves me right for replying on auto-pilot.
