I don't have one yet. 👀Got an email from GAME, they're processing my Steam Controller. Check your emails, UK people!
Edit: lmao just got it

I cancelled my order a while back. I felt dirty giving GAME money, and I thought I'd play it safe and let others take it for a test run.
Oh shit, my GLS tracking thing just updated, both shipments are now "Outbound from GLS location"
Just got my email from GAME...
"We are sorry but your recent order has been cancelled due a problem with your payment."
I've never had a problem using PayPal with GAME before. Why does it have to be this instance?
If GAME are shipping already I'm hoping those of us that ordered through Steam will get our shipping confirmation soon as well.
Not that I'm doubting Valve will get my stuff to me in time for the 16th, but it'd be nice to know that a courier has it already![]()
Still nothing about it shipping. *ANGER* It's supposed to be here today. WTF FedEx?

I think FedEx estimated the arrival date when the label was printed under the assumption that Valve would ship the package the same day.
SHIPMENT PREPARED. That's nice.
Also, why order through a retailer instead of Steam?
Has anyone in Canada heard anything from EBGames?
I was lucky enough to get the Steam Controller a bit earlier so we can figure out layouts for relevant games. I spent last two weeks playing my favorite desktop games on the couch and here are my impressions.
Proof -![]()
- Most games work out of the box. In Big Picture Mode you can select default layouts and if the game supports an Xbox 360 controller, odds are you can play it easily on the Steam Controller.
- It takes a while to get used to pure-controller games. The buttons are smaller and are shifted to the center than on other controllers. This means your thumb might feel awkward at first.
- This gets heavily outweighed by being able to play games like SimCity and other "pure desktop" games. Initially I had trouble scribbling down roads, but about an hour in I got the hang of it. Nothing beats laying down on the couch and playing your favorite games.
- It has two AA batteries that fit into the handles much like the old OUYA controller
- The central Steam button works like the system interface button on consoles - pulling up the dashboard
- The UI of Big Picture has been heavily revamped and streamlined, it's a great experience to pull it up, reconfigure your controls, and jump back in
- The rumble feature on the trackpad is now configurable. You can make the tactile feedback heavier or lighter which is a nice addition. I found myself using the lightest setting possible just to get a feeling for how fast it should be going
- Having difficulties mimicing "controllers" in FPS games. It's best to play FPS games in mouse+keyboard settings, not enable their native controller support. You can replicate the regular controller on the touchpad, and it just doesn't feel natural. I sucked badly at CS:GO with the Steam Controller. Even worse than with the mouse. With practice it can be worthwhile though. In Team Fortress 2 I had fun playing as the Engineer -- not engaging directly in combat, rather working on my defenses and killing spies. This felt pretty natural.
- Found myself using the controller as the default "remote" for the living room PC. Instead of picking up the touchpad I normally use, I'd just get the controller to launch videos. It mimics the mouse accurately.
- The hardware itself is well built. It's too early to say if it will be durable or not, but it's definitely better than most 3rd party Xbox 360 controllers I have. The left stick feels great. The right rumble pad is fantastic. The buttons take time to get used to. Triggers and shoulder buttons feel natural.
tl;dr the Steam Controller is a good piece of hardware that'll take your favorite desktop games to the couch and replace your living room PC input method

Two things I notice: He mentions that he was bad at CS:GO... worse than with a mouse... I think this guy usually used a controller for his FPS's, and the steam controller is a lot closer to a mouse aim (though slightly gimped) than it is a controllers aim. So Id keep that in mind.

Two, his comment on the buttons seem to be, more or less, that its like the Wii U's controller.
Wege, you'll be at a disadvantage while you get adjusted. We have yet to see if that gap will close to being negligible in practice, or if it'll be something worth considering. At any rate, it'll be much less of a disadvantage than with a regular control stick.
Can someone who is lucky enough to have the steam controller comment on how well (or horribly) it works with FPS games on the PC? Would you still be at a huge disadvantage against mouse/keyboard players in online multiplayer?
Thanks!
You're right, but I was saying that the way he words it, he makes it sound like it was terrible. I'm saying that it sounds like he isn't adjusted to the "mouse way" of aiming -- directly vs indirectly. I think that the Steam Controller will get up to about 80% of the accuracy/speed of a mouse, as opposed to the like 10% of a controller. That 20% or so difference (numbers are totally out of my ass btw) probably won't make a difference to a lot of people. It will of course take a lot of getting used to."Worse than a mouse" should be the expectation, as should "better than a dual stick controller", but it's going to vary from person to person, how much they play, their prior experience with the game and how adept they can with the Steam Controller. In the end, every one of us has ridiculous amounts of experience with a mouse / keyboard, or even a dual stick controller. Very few of us has any where near enough experience with the Steam Controller, and probably won't in the grand scheme of things
Some have a decent experience, some see great potential, others find they do worse, others don't like it at all.
Me too. I didn't feel dirty but the whole thi feels like something for tinkerers for now. I might jump in a bit later.

Well, after worrying about not getting my shipment confirmation, it finally just came in today and it says that it will be delivered tomorrow(!?).
Quite surprised by that, but I suppose it's coming out of IL and I'm only a state away. We'll see!
Yeah, just wanted to say. You should too remove the image from the quote btw.

Awesome, got the Shipment Prepared status update email today. Tracking # says estimated delivery tomorrow.
You probably want to hide the long number in purple - anyone can look at you address and details of delivery using it

I'm in the UK, I ordered from Steam on the first day, mine still seems to be in the Netherlands.

Another one who can't let go of using the face buttons or analog stick. I'm sure Valve got people at their offices who are by now competent at using the touchpads in the way they were intended (without lifting your thumbs off them) I wish they would release a video of someone using it.
They mention that the right pad still works as a mouse without Steam running. I thought early impressions confirmed that the controller doesn't work at all unless Steam is running, at least minimized in the system tray?

Maybe the reddit author made a mistake and had Steam minimized.
