Well, after worrying about not getting my shipment confirmation, it finally just came in today and it says that it will be delivered tomorrow(!?).

Quite surprised by that, but I suppose it's coming out of IL and I'm only a state away. We'll see!

Hm... guess mine will be in today? *crossing fingers* Still says it's up in Illinois which is pissing me off. The lack of updates on the shipping is just ugh.

Another one who can't let go of using the face buttons or analog stick. I'm sure Valve got people at their offices who are by now competent at using the touchpads in the way they were intended (without lifting your thumbs off them) I wish they would release a video of someone using it.

Excuse my ignorance, but you're supposed to keep your thumbs on the pads at all times? Why are there four face buttons then? Are you supposed to just rely on the pads and the triggers for input? Honest questions; Trying to be as prepared as I can be when I get mine this week.

It's to give you a transition, basically. Games will play best when you don't, or rarely, move your fingers off the pads. Eventually, the face buttons would ideally become auxillarly functions instead of primary functions -- think how the Dpad is used today in many games.

To clarify, the trackpads themselves are far more versatile than the dpads/sticks on controllers. They can be configured and reconfigured based on things happening in game. On top of that, there are grip paddles.

The way I am setting up my Dark Souls 2 profile, is nearly identical to how it is regularly set up on a regular controller.... except that Left grip will be Use Item, and right grip will be Run. I'm still working out where to put Dual weild weapon, but otherwise, I should essentially never have to move my hands off of the pads, except to pick up items. This means the face buttons are there for just a few extra, less often used fuctions. This is ideal. Control stick will be used for swapping weapons because I like digital movement better anyway.

The triggers have haptic feedback too, like Xbox One? That's the first I've heard of that.

I don't know how the XB1 does it, I only saw the dropdown menu, where you can set it to low, medium, high (the pads also have that setting).

Ultimately it will depend on you. You can/could probably come up with a layout (depending on the game) where you don't have to lift your thumbs from the pads for the most important functions, yes. For some that will be more convenient and thus they will relegate the face buttons to tertiary functions.

Mine just got dropped off at FedEx. I imagine it will arrive on Friday, not today, as the tracking still states. Coming from Illinois, destination is Boston.

The xbox one controller uses the traditional style uneven weight motor for rumble - https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Xbox+One+Wireless+Controller+Trigger+Rumble+Motor+Replacement/36558

I don't think the Steam Controller is using anything other than force actuators for feedback, which are more nuanced in the type of feed back they can give compared to the traditional rumble motor - but that still isn't clear if this is the case for the triggers. We'll have to wait for someone to do a teardown to be sure.

Exactly the same here, only the destination is Portland, Oregon rather than Boston.

I never got a "sent" email, but checking the tracking number gives an in transit message, so I'll probably have it here (northern Spain) on the 16th as promised.

It's interesting that the controllers are shipping out from Carol Stream, IL. Makes me wonder who Valve has manufacturing the things for them, as Carol Stream isn't really close enough to O'hare to just be serving as a distribution point for shipments coming from China. But I know very little about the manufacturing industry.

Carol Stream is a nice place though and close to a sick-ass arcade.

Oh, there we go. Both of them (Link+Controller) shipped out within an hour of each other. Should be here tomorrow or end of the week.

FedEx page finally loaded for me. Says estimated delivery is today, but there is not tracking info beyond "label created."

Tracking has been updated to a more reasonable Friday delivery as expected. Looking forward to playing with the new gear, and finding out that my WiFi signal is woefully inadequate for streaming in HD from two rooms away.

Not sure if this helps anyone, but I went to a GameStop (U.S.) today and asked about the Steam Controller's availability. They said I could pre-order now and pick it up in store this Friday. The girl said aside from pre-orders, they may only get one or two on Friday for general sale.

So I preordered, and she told me to check in with her on Thursday, because that's probably when they'll come in.

PSA if your package is just a label or it is pending, you are not getting it on your scheduled date!

I'm supposed to get mine tomorrow but I'm still on label created. Shipping from Illinois to Ohio. I'm assuming I'm going to have to wait too.

You should look up something called powerline adapters, they actually let your wired ethernet travel between different power outlets in your house, some people get wired speeds from opposite ends of their place with them.

Yeah my order has updated with a label as well with a delivery date of tomorrow. I don't expect to see it though until I see in transit. Hopefully it comes by Friday.

Still can't pre-order from Steam :(
My only option for the november release right now is buying from GAME UK, but they only sell bundles with either prepaid cards, Steam Link, or both.

Huh. I preordered it since I really wanted this even with my current circumstances and this seemed the most sure fire way to get it, but I'll definitely have to take a look Thursday. Thanks.

It seems like they are just trotting out this line to quite a few people, I am sure you are about the 3rd person to have said that.
