I kid I kid... be aware that I and II are remakes but they stick to their original desgins, which means you dont actually attack enemies, you kinda...bump into them to damage them.

Origins, Oath and 6 are all more traditional action rpgs. I thought Origins was ok at best, Oath seemed good but I didnt play much, and I havent touched 6.

The real travesty is that the best one, 7, continues to ellude PC ;_;

Imo either Oath or Origin. Napishtim is the weakest 3D Ys.
Chronicles are remakes of the first two games which play pretty differently compared to the others. Worth checking out for sure, but probably not a good entry-point to the series.

Someone remind me because I keep getting told and forgetting:

  • Are Ys games mean to be played in order or do they not have connections between them??
  • What order should I play them?
  • Which should I not bother with / should I bother at all?

Currently I know for certain I will get TitS, since you folks are pushing to it and making it sound good - but these Ys games I also keep putting off getting, but not this year if you think they are worthy

Hahaha thanks for your responses! I know the games (and their difficulty) despite not playing them but I didn't know that 1&2 were mechanically different... so I'll avoid them from now and focus on Oath or Origin. Are they connected story wise or totally independent?

Say you JUST deleted shit from your Recycle Bin but then you realized that you had actually NOT Copied and pasted from one file to another, but instead MANUALLY TRANSFERRED?

How would you go about getting back that data?

theres an order but its not really relevant. Oath in Felghana is technically a remake of 3, so it would go Origins, I / II, Oath... VI from the ones available on Steam.

Origin doesnt even star Adol, what a travesty >_>

And yes you should get TitS because its a much better game than any of the Ys games.

Likely early 2017, the game's content is done (which is why they just got an ERSB rating on it a couple days ago), but are reportedly polishing it up right now.

They're pretty self-contained with some small nods and references to older titles, but nothing really huge.
1 & 2 tell one story, of which Origin is the prequel. Origin is also the only one of all the Ys games on Steam that features a different protagonist (well actually more than 1), in all the others you play as Adol the Red.

The chronological order would be Origin -> 1 & 2 -> Oath (remake of 3) ->... Napishtim (6)

Falcom has a crazy win percentage on PC. Ys 6 was the only one I didn't fall in love with.

Highly recommended. Xanadu with the Monthly discount is also a steal.

Great, thanks! So my plan is set to get TitS, but also Ys Oath, as well as 1&2 since it looks like they will be cheap enough anyway. I'll get Origin later if I like 1&2

Yeah, not only do I own all of their games on Steam, I actually have completed all of them as well!
They're all damn good, only Gurumin and Napishtim are what I'd put in the 'weaker' tier (which means they're still plenty good), the others are essentially 'just buy them already if you don't have them'-tier.

I'd say Oath is more of a barometer for Origin :p.
While it's a prequel to 1 & 2 storywise (it's set a couple hundred years in the past), it's actually the newest out of all the Ys games on Steam.

I actually liked it as well, but I feel like it's a bit harder to recommend since it's lacking on the technical side of things. 30fps and resolution lock and all that. Translation also isn't as good as the XSeed handled titles.

I would recommend shutting down the computer immediately and rebooting with a Linux USB stick to try to recover the data.

Even something as simple as a cookie from browsing can overwrite that byte.

Yeah, my least liked so far are Ys VI and Gurumin, but they're still fun. Looking forward to Trails 3rd/Tokyo Xanadu and whatever else comes.
Xanadu Next will probably keep going cheaper due to not amazing sales, but I felt the game was well worth the asking price at launch.

It just took 5 1/2 hours to update my Windows 10 Notebook and no, this has nothing to do with my internet.

And now the Startmenu is broken af and I want to scream at the persons at microsoft who decided to change all that stuff to the worse.

Detective Grimoire is really cool, and not at all what I was expecting (I thought it was just a point and click adventure). Really enjoying it.
