That's game development.

That's not game developpement. That's SEGA. Smaller companies manages it faster. Spike Chunsoft can do it. Idea Factory can do it. NIS can do it. Even freakin Koei Tecmo can do it. No port is taking an entire year of developpement unless that's a collection lf multiple games. They're either working on nothing or sitting on something ready and done.

The ports weren't great but at least they're improving and they've released far more in 3 years. They have like 4 Steam games planned already for 1st Half 2017. 2 of them being day and date releases. 3 of them being from Gust.

They're not really improving though.
Their port quality is completely arbitrary and they still fail to get something basic as resolution support right most of the time.
And then there is that One Piece game that is objectively broken since release and never got fixed (as far as I know).
I'd take SEGA releasing 1 game per year with VC quality any day if the alternative were more but KT quality.
I mean what you're saying here is you would be fine with 720p30fps Vanquish as long as you get other games faster.

*Crosses fingers that the GUST stuff is actually going to turn out good*

Game development includes marketing, distribution, and licensing. Sometimes releases don't have the best timing, best to wait to have all the information before jumping to an emotional reaction.

Yeah, I'd rather have a game that we could fix rather than nothing.

Back to the point: It doesn't take a year for a mere port. As for their steam ports, marketing and distribution isn't a problem. Remains the port time, which is rather short and licensing. Yes, sometimes the best timing isn't here but let's be fair, they didn't produced something meaningful after VC's success, which was 2 years ago.

So, can we all agree Sega gives no fuck about PC anymore?

Nope.

It is game development though. You need to consider the potential complexity of a port job, for reference, just read up on how much time Ghostlight spent on resolving a single bug that kept hampering the overall porting process of Way of the Samurai 4. Things can easily get complicated. Then you need to consider team size and whether or not the team is juggling multiple projects. Do you want a rush job or something that meets the high expectations that we've set for SEGA, quality-wise?

So ff13 - I'm reading that when the game launched it was locked at 720p and people had to use GeDoSaTo? The launcher lets me choose 1440p, so was this patched? What I do notice is that the subtitles are fuzzy.

I guess Dark Mist is Sony too. Going down this Game Republic memory lane reminded me we never got the 1.2 patch for Dark Mist in the west.

Yeah, the game is still being published by Sony on Asian PSN stores and the JP store page says "© Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc."

Nope.

Ghostlight is like, vastly smaller than SEGA and also don't have their own catalog to port.
I mean, then again, we're talking about 2 years since Valkyria Chronicles. 1 year since Sonic. Who in the world takes a year to complete a port ?
It's not about rush job anymore, that's a lame excuse that doesn't explain the 2 years gap.

I mean, it's not like Capcom for instance is about to bring us 3 ports in a year ? Dragon's Dogma in February, Dead Rising in September and Marvel VS Capcom 3 in March. 3 good to amazing ports.

Bamco did it too. Spike Chunsoft did it too. Heck with day and dates releases. Sega doesn't have the excuse of "high quality port" when it takes so long.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

Yes they released a patch when FF13-2 went live. Here's what Durante had to say about it:

With the release of Final Fantasy XIII-2 and the patch to its predecessor, Square-Enix delivered exactly what they said they would—graphics options—but no more than that. The intermittent performance stutters remain unsolved, and the selection of options only covers the bare minimum.

Personally, I find it both flattering and somewhat worrying that the graphics options they did decide to include match the ones I implemented (by means of an unauthorized interception method without any access to the game’s source code, and within a couple dozen or so hours of hobbyist work) so closely. Is there really no interest in the company to give a single graphics programmer a month or so to develop some highly meaningful features, such as better shadow filtering or a higher quality depth of field implementation? Perhaps fix whatever causes the engine hiccups?

It’s a shame to see such an incredibly beautiful game world with so much effort put into its art assets neglected to this extent. Of course, the situation now is already vastly better than the locked 720p without any options offered at release, and these are obviously the best versions of each game to play by a huge margin, but much more could be achieved with a bit more focused effort.

If I have a steam library on an external HDD that I had for my old laptop, can I connect it to Steam on my new laptop without any issues or does it not work at all?
Yes. Just add the library folder into Steam in the new laptop, and it should just detect everything.

Good price, but I only need Rebel Assault and Rogue Squadon and then its not worth buying the whole bundle...
Why is Steam not doing a sale? There is a Star Wars movie coming out tomorrow ffs!

I'm in a similar boat. Really just need xwing vs tie fighter.

Hm, Blood and Wine is my goty, if that doesn't count I don't think I can even make a top 5 of 2016 releases on PC.
Damn, I can't remember a year where I missed out on so much.
X-com, Dark Souls 3, Deus EX, Dishonored 2... So much catching up to do..
Q1 2017 is looking like the busiest ever so the list of games I want but can't afford/don't have time to play will reach astronomical heights.

Gamesplanet (well, their UK office at least) only deals in GBP, but your credit card company or Paypal should convert that amount to USD although they may charge a fee so you would want to check with them. The key should activate fine in the US and elsewhere, it doesn't appear to be region locked.

Actually, they also offers Euros on their French and German site :p

On page 60 on their annual reports:

Background
-The PC game market is growing
steadily.

Current measures

-Increasing the unit sales of
mainstay titles
-Concentrating on PC games,
particularly among overseas

Expected Benefits

-Acquisition of stable revenue
and expansion of PC games

Fiscal 2017 Outlook
We plan to increase revenues in the digital game area by marketing new PC games

Total War: Warhammer changed their PC game division from a $3.4 million loss last year to a $68 million profit this year, so they see there is an audience there. It might mean some online/ free to play games but I'm sure there will be other games as well.

They have huge amount of games that they can port to PC cheap and sell tons of them. Bayoneta, Yakuza, Vanquish...

I can't believe I went to sleep when you guys all had a big Lovecraft talk, right after I had mentioned Saya no Uta, whic his basically the best Lovecraftian visual novel.

I'm going to give you guys a big pretty post about Saya no Uta sometime.

If you want something Saya-like on Steam, do give The House in Fata Morgana a try.
Don't want to spoil anything, but the second story deals with similar issues, just without child porn.

No worries, I'm on it.

That doesn't mean that any japanese games are coming. They have a lot of PC centric devs and stuff in the making (examples: Endless Legend 2 and Dawn of War 3)

Honestly? People should stop expecting any of the japanese stuff to come over. I am 100% sure that if it depended on SEGA Europe, we would have already seen stuff like Persona, Yakuza and etc on PC. They don't work as one entity, though, and the japanese division clearly doesn't give a shit about PC, even with huge successes like the mega drive collection and VC.

Doesn't look like it's available to buy anywhere besides Amazon US which is annoying. Looks great though.

Does this mean VF5FS and Bayo 1 are a lock?
