Some quick Halfway impressions from about 1 hour of playing it (which I streamed and you can watch here, just raw gameplay, I need to find my mic one of these days. Thanks for those that were watching aswell, it was fun)

The game feels very much like a 16-bit X-COM, but with more focus on story, almost like a rpg/xcom hybrid. You start off with 1 dude that wakes up from cryo sleep in some derelict spaceship that seems to be overrun by what looks like zombie thingies (original I know), but you quickly find some more team mates.

You cant create chracters, but each one you find and use seems to be a different class each with their own special abilities. The main guy is your standard assault type class and his special move seems to be a 100% accuracy shot, but does low dmg. The second is a lady with a full health self-heal ability, and the third I found was a sniper with a headshot special ability (massive dmg etc). You also have the standard x-com style options of attacking, overwatch (which here is called retaliation and triggers after someone attacks you, not if someone is on your line of sight), reload, use medkits or grenades. There is also a cover system that works exactly like the one in x-com (half and full cover) and the movement system is, again, just like xcom, you use 1 action point to walk a certain distance, or 2 action points to run farther but cant do anything else after. Each action you do seems to use 1 action point, so you can for example, shoot and reload, or walk to cover and shoot, except special abilities which use 2 action points (which is what each character has per turn). One neat thing is does different from xcom is that every time you shoot someone, you can actually use your second action point to make the shot more accurate.

Out of combat you move around with your squad (or with each individually, handy because each one has its own inventory which fills up fast) exploring the small levels looking for ammo, medkits and gear, or doing whatever the objective is. So far its been all pretty much "kill every enemy in the room to finish the level" type deals, I dont know if that changes much. I find it funny how the game warns you that you can still explore before finishing the level, like anyone would leave without opening the 2 or 3 containers still around :p

Theres also a small hub where you can talk to your squad mates, use a health station (which is weird because youre always at full health after missions when you go to the hub, so I dont know what thats about, maybe theres poison or sickness later on that you need to cure) or buy stuff from a shop (speaking of, you can recycle anything in your inventory for cash on the fly, which is a nice touch especially with how small the inventories are).

There is also gear you can equip (like a vest with better stats), weapons, medkits, grenades, and also stimpacks that perma increase your stats (like health, or agility for accuracy), the game keeps saying how rare they are but in the 1 hour I played I found at least 3, although 2 of them were story based.

And thats pretty much it, the game seems super polished, the story is your forgetable run of the mill derelict space ship with monsters but I love the look of it and the gameplay seems very cool. Someone was saying in chat that it doesnt get much more complex later on, which might be a problem, but I havent gotten there yet.

Might stream some more again tomorow, hopefully with a mic this time (not that I have much to say while playing really), but I want to find my mic for my eventual horror streams, where I WILL have things to say (mostly heavy breathing and an assortment of fucks I imagine)
Great write up, thanks for the impressions!

So I still don't have that Millennium 2 key. I'll give it a few days to appear in my GMG account before pursuing it further.

He did activate a game from me yesterday however so I'm pretty sure they've been at a computer. We probably should move to PM's.

Hmm, modbot must have had a brainfart. Yeah, the evidence is there and we should just use the options available for Modbot.

This is to make up for my Sims 2 failure earlier.

Please note!!
The Sims 3 key must be redeemed on http://www.thesims3.com/ using the "my page" section.

I've been asking that same question, you uber generous bastard.

I want to know if it comes with soundtrack (steam or not) and the teleporter DLC levels.

lol well I got impatient so I tried to redeem the key I have for it (since I don't own the soundtrack or DLC) and it said I already own the game. I know that's not 100% confirmation, but I took it as it's just the base game.

What did I miss? I did see the controller redesign.

The new beta client has a few sweet updates.

Because behavior like his breaks any sense of trust between this community. I agree that situations like this should be handed with discretion and not turn into witch hunts but something must be done to stop members like him abusing the giveaway system since a lot of members are obviously neglecting to use a public/personal blacklist. For a start, the public blacklist should be used as a default rule in all giveaways

It's also not like we're constantly checking out everyone's library or care about what happens to bundle fodder or if someone does give a won game to a friend once in a while but if someone did misbehave in the past, did get called out but didn't change his behaviour then imo it's fair game to bring it to the thread's attention as it's the only way to bring others to use the blacklist feature and holy fuck is that a long sentence but I'm too lazy to change it.

Really just want them to make Spotify work with Steam Music. Apparentlyt it's coming so that's nice.

Cave Story+ is pretty nice but damn the difficulty spikes at
Monster X? Something like that it was called.
Managed to get past it but that took me a couple of tries.

The new beta client has a few sweet updates.

Anything noteworthy except shift/control click on library and setting multiple categories per game?

Anyone know if the Indie Royale Stealth Bastard Deluxe key comes with the soundtrack?

Yeah mine did that too. I thought I got ripped off at first.

I'll check now.

*edit* Don't think so, the only soundtrack I can see is for Oozi: Earth Adventure, it's even listed as a selling point on the store page.

Although there is a .zip download for the SB:D so a soundtrack could be in there but I highly doubt it seeing as it's a 128mb download for the DRM free version of the game.

In my experience, you can't add just the DLC to a game you already have by using a game+DLC key.

Well that's a bummer, both because it means I can't do that and because even if my key did contain the soundtrack and DLC, I couldn't get it anyway. :( I could have sworn I did it before, but maybe I was mistaken.

Ugh, I posted a link to my steam profile in one of the older Steam threads and now I'm getting friend invites from people who look like GAFfers. I still accept them and tag them as GAF but it's kinda annoying that my profile is just out there and I can't edit it out anymore because the thread has been locked.

Holy shit at the last boss of Dark Souls II DLC.

Both my shades were dead, both my main weapons were broken, I had no estus flasks left and he was down to his last sliver of health.

I faced a
dragon
with a sword hilt.... and won.

Definitely the most intense experience I've had in any Souls game.

Maybe a mod'll help if you pm him/her the issue.

That's what I was guessing.
That's unfortunate.
No sale for me there, IndieRoyale.

Hehe, that's awesome. Would be even better if you had punched him to death :p

I cheated I guess. I went in with two guys, all of us using sorcery/magic. We'd just triangled around him and whichever 2 he wasn't looking at would just pew pew him down to no health. I loved the arena you fought him in.

I still have to do the extra boss, the
trio
. Going to be really tough.

Sounds great. I look forward to playing all 3 DLCs in a row when the final pack releases in September. Taking a break in the meantime.

Worked for me with Payday 2 CCE after I already activated the Standard Edition. Also due to some weird stuff I could activate Hard Reset two times, which was an accident. :/

his body's cold as ice, but he's got a heart of gold
If you want to follow up with this, you can; I can remove the blocks. I don't plan to put in an unblock command because I think permablocks should really be permanent, but if you sort of typoed a name, that's a pretty reasonable request.

I'm on mobile now so it's a pain to go through my PM history but I will send you a PM with the names I want unblocked when I get on my PC. I consider these people as friends and it is a shame that they got blacklisted by a stupid mistake

I didn't say we should do nothing. But there is no need for random GAF members to delve into or demand information that we honestly have no reason to have access to. Stumpokapow is readily available via PM and he often replies to questions and concerns relating to modbot frequently; to be honest he even goes out of his way to answer basic questions that can be solved by reading the modbot guide for less than five minutes.

all of this batman hype today has me finally itching to give Arkham City a second try. I tried playing it a few years ago on the PS3 but after 3 hours i just wasnt feeling it. something about the more open environment didn't feel quite as tight as the asylum from the first game.

Still, so many ppl like the game and i never really did feel like i gave it a fair shake. A couple of questions then:

for one, will i feel like a jerk if i just bee line from one section to the other, ignoring the collectables? I was ok with the first game's collectables because they weren't that many and i enjoyed the puzzle aspect of it but the +300 collectables from AC seems really excessive.

Also, is there any good DLC for it? I have the GOTY edition but i never really looked into it.

To be fair, anything that can be handled without Stump should be handled without him. GAF is not his job and what time he does spend here shouldn't be arbitrarily wasted -- this makes it so that having a discussion within our "community" first, before someone makes Stump aware of it via PM, is the logical thing to do while trying to respect Stump's time.

You'll be fine, for the most part. The only thing really affected by the collectibles is that (1) you get experience towards leveling up your abilities (2) you further The Riddler sidequest storyline and (3) you unlock various bonus content and challenge maps.
So if you ignore the collectibles, you're fine.
The Catwoman DLC is integrated into the story.
If you like the game, you can try the Harley Quinn DLC afterwards, but it's nothing special.

Lately I ignore collectibles in games that I'm not REALLY feeling. If it feels like there's a chance that I'll get bored and not finish the game, screw wasting time collecting things. I'd rather finish the main story than do half of the main story while collecting half of some junk.

The collectibles are not worth it, but the story for the game was pretty good I thought. I basically ignored everything but the main story and side missions.

Not sure how the Harley Quinn DLC was, but obviously if you enjoy the challenge rooms, get those.

EDIT: Downloading steam beta. I need to try their music player.

Might not work if you weren't in the beta already. They just removed the "open beta" part from the changelog.

wait, how you can play mp3 inside steam ?
i have the OST from Dark Souls 2 , but can't find how to play them inside steam

It's a feature currently in beta. They just added the desktop view, it was only BPM before.
