Is the game more linear in nature? Because in souls games you can always go back and try tackling another area if you find the current one to be too much of a challenge.

If you're referring to Idle Master, just be sure you have the latest version and it should be fine. The newest version will automatically prevent the sale cards from trying to idle as a game. It's also made to be a bit more resilient to Steam's servers being flaky.
