Doing really good boss fights for FPSes usually requires coding plenty of unique patterns, something that developers just don't seem to try very often. I'm sure players could handle an enemy as complex as something from a Treasure game, provided it doesn't turn into bullet hell.

No shooter can beat Quake's final boss, Shub-Niggurath.

You killed her with a telefrag. I mean c'mon. Unbeatable boss encounter.

Yeah, shooters have always been kinda stingy with bosses. Doom had one per "act" or whatever they were called.

I guess it depends on what ones defines as a boss fight. Half Life and Unreal had them, but they weren't the same as say, Chthon in Quake, in so far as the fight boss fight is the only one.

Wow so for the Director's Cut, the QUBE developers thought adding context for what you're doing in the form of a disembodied voice talking to you while you go through the room transitions would be a good idea. It's not particularly good, it just further brings itself closer to Portal where Valve accepted the ridiculous nature of having a person go through puzzle rooms but in this it seemingly is taking itself seriously without any of the environmental story telling.

I'm fine with either style, so long as a level/map ends with an actual event/climax. Rather than killing enough guys to move on, you should be left almost out of ammo with your life bar clinging on by a thread. Then you can start the next level with enemies being an actual threat and a sense of urgency as you increase your resources for the next big encounter.

Games like Doom might have only done this at the end of each episode, but at least you got enough of them to keep things interesting.

I spent $14.99 on Day One Garry's Incident.

Seemed like okay idea at the time.

Same here man :/. We can weep together if you want.

This bit really gets to me. At what point did shooters decide that bosses were not something gamers wanted to fight? If I had my way, every single level would have some sort of boss fight, ideally some that are great and memorable.

Without them, it is just shooting the same guys over and over. Bosses break things up, they give you an excuse to use different weapons or tactics and they help make levels memorable. But for the longest time fps designers especially seem to do without them.

I don't know, am I alone in this one?

No. No, you're not alone. *brofist*

So I was looking at my library and found out I have Tropico 4 and I can't remember for the life of me when or how I got it.

Oh gawd, I'm reaching that stage aren't I.

Makes sense tho since I'm almost at the 500 games mark (492 games right now).

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

Yep, welcome to the club. The way I'm going, I'll have my "Gaming God" badge (2,000 games) within the next month or so.

I was playing SSFIV AE and I had the brilliant idea to press home buttom to see what GFWL looks like and it resulted in my computer shuting off, even my crap laptop knows this thing is no good.
Most likely the shut off was a coincidence but let me blame GFWL anyway. :p

What about Doom 2 where you finished the game by shooting John Romero in the face with a rocket?

id had some fun bosses :)

I really do miss John Romero making real games fueled by metal and being a dick. I guess Daikatana just burned all that out in one swell foop.

That's insane. I'm nearing 600 and growing at a rapid pace since I started getting back into PC gaming 1.5 years ago. I don't think I'll ever catch up to you though, 2,000 is a lot of games.

Browsing through the weeklong deals, I noticed Last Dream is 50% off. Reviews seemed to be mostly positive. Does anyone on GAF have any input before I bite the bullet?

Is someone buying Mirrors Edge for 4.99$ ?

I would like to trade it against Dead Space 2.
DS2 is not available in my country. I would gift you Mirrors Edge and you would gift me DS2 then. :-o

I just started Bastion and yes, fantastic gameplay, enjoying it a lot but god damn that annoying two-toned narrator is getting on my nerves. He needs to shut his trap.

That's my only complaint with the game so far. Other than that, very responsive controls and fast paced action are just exactly what I like.

rofl you hated the narrator? That's pretty much what everyone loved about it.

I don't like how intrusive he is. I won't be surprised if he eventually ends up describing how I took a dump after I killed a boss. It's his omnipresence (and repetitive tone) what makes him too monotonous (and I'm just 1 hour into the game; not a good sign).

I'm sure I'll find a workaround though; maybe lowering his voice or just disabling it and leaving the subtitles on will do the trick.

Last night I dreamt that GAF was a school or university and the SteamGAF class had to attend some assembly during which the new students were introduced... and one of them was you-know-who.

Just reinstall Steam to its existing directory. Your games and such won't be overwritten.

Day One Garry's Incident looks interesting, but the reviews really shit on it.
Haha, that's amazing.

3 days to a new Weekly Humble and 2 days til a new whatever Bundle.
I hate waiting...
I really hope they pick it up with the weekly after the 2 weeks of Fumbles we had :/

If only the laptops have better graphics cards, otherwise they are the best laptops money can buy.

Macbook Pro, Pro, Prooooo~ Come on, you named them "Pro" and only have integrated graphics cards installed, the fuck is this shit?
The only times you can use "best" along "Macbook (Pro)" is with "trackpad" or "portable OSX".

I can't play because it insta-crashes after Uplay loads. This is probably a bad omen -- maybe I should quit while I'm ahead by 96 hours.
That would be very wise... although, does Watch Doges have the same horrendous collecting as ACs?

It was part of the Kalypso Humble Bundle, likely you got it there.

I said the same, and I'm already at 666 games and have quite a few unactivated keys as well. At least I know I'll slow down when I get to 1K
lol yeah right

I already did an Assembly course once, and that was more than enough :p

:(

Just remember to use GameSave Manager or something this time!

I used GSM when I moved to Win8.1 and it didn't back up my LibHD saves. :( The game was new at the time so I'd guess it just had an incomplete database entry.

Gyahahaha. Singapore store shows the same thing. Looks like they meant pre-orders available from May 27, because I can now buy it.

Fucking Ubisoft trolling us all

They suddenly found out you guys also read Chinese, then grouped you with the rest of us.

Interestingly enough, Bahasa Melayu is our national language, because of our past as a part of Malaysia. English is the de facto official language of communication though, and if they classify us as chinese speaking I can see our government being butthurt
