I wonder where Starbreeze fits into this and why they aren't making their lovely SP shooters anymore

Indeed. State of Decay is incredibly janky and it's one of the best zombie/survival game I ever played. So good.

Yup, there's quite a few games I personally love that has a level of jank, and some games I think are made better because of the jank. One off the top example would be Deadly Premonition, which most certainly has a big level of jank over it, but it becomes oddly charming with the weird animations, sometimes stilted dialogue, weird car physics, and the like.

Score rank: 99% Userscore: 98%

sales aren't even close to 2, not to mention 1.

it would be nice to know what IF thinks about steam sales, no?
Re;Birth2 did get a big sale very shortly after release though, 70% discount summer sale only a bit over 2 weeks after release.
I think discounting Re;Birth2 that soon may have hurt Re;Birth3 sales, why buy it at release when it could have a bigger discount soon (autumn/winter sales).

Also alot of competition from other games.

yeah, we'll see after winter sales how it goes, IF probably will have all games on sale then.

Last one was beyond terrible, not sure if worth the preorder...

I know...

The Fallout 4 "why isnt that criticised" thread is great.

I enjoy the game, but damn. Its the same janky, buggy Bethesda experience as always. And then people there saying "Its not buggy at all."...

Yeah, when people like a game, it's like the game's makers can do no wrong. Heck, when I complain about Telltale's broken-ass engine and a bug that wouldn't let me carry over saves from one TWD episode to the next unless I manually moved the file into the right directory after each episode, (a bug that has persisted and hasn't been fixed by Telltale after all these years) people tell me that it worked fine for them, therefore it's fine and what popular work do you want to see Telltale do next?

I loved New Vegas. I hated the bugs. The crashes frustrated the hell out of me. Saving every two minutes because I felt I had to, not because I wanted to, annoyed me. I still loved the game, but don't expect me to call it a perfect experience.

I think jankiness can be forgiven for other areas of ambition, it can be charming, and some games for better or worse can actually be better because of the jankiness.

Jankiness is such a hard thing to describe, you know it when you feel it in a game, but to word it is hard, there's not a single type of jankiness, but many, something that doesn't feel exactly fluid or perfect or polished. But can benefit some games in an odd way, or can be easily overlooked if other elements make up for it.

But it can also detract if it feels to contrast with what the game is trying to be. If a game is a hammy B-game which is somewhat ambitious in areas but maybe doesn't have some big budget but makes up for it in creativity, I think the jank can be part of the overall charm of the game. If it's trying to follow popular trends and compete in a market and is more, "Been there, done that," territory, the jankiness can stick out more as a negative point.

Of course, this is also all subjective like what we find funny or scary, I think different people have different tolerance levels, or even desired jankiness, to their games.

I agree with you. There are games that i can forgive for their jankyness, due to other things. Like deadly premonition is such an ambiguous game for the devs in terms of size and features, it is innovative and is in every way unique with its story, characters and atmosphere.

Kind of similar how i feel about Drakengard 3, since the game had virtually no budget whatsoever, delivers a very uniqe experience and excells in other areas such as the humor and the soundtrack.

But for Bethesda and Piranha Bytes games i just cant be forgiving. Both devs make virtually the same game with the same engine over and over again and at the same time their games arent really unique enough to make me overlook that.

Someone said on the FFVII-SSB reaction thread that you can clearly see who has played FFVII when it came out and who has not, which lead me to realize that there is an substantial group of people on GAF that weren't alive when FFVII came out initially.

Is this what being old feels like? I am only in my late twenties for christs sake

I dont want to venture into a Nintendo x Sony* thread as i want to keep my sanity, what do the people say that makes that so obvious?

*(Yeah, FFVII has been on PC as well, but in the mind of sony fans it's still a "playstation game")

I think you are confusing complexity with jankiness. Complexity in games introduces jankiness to some degree, unless things are incredibly well designed. But even though games like that have faults, you can often dig through it all and find a gem underneath.

Some games are just janky because they stripped a lot of things out but still refused to fix basic shit that should have been fixed like 10 years ago. Other games are just made in Europe.

It is a fine balance.

Which Sliders? Season 1+2 Sliders or action oriented Seasons 3+?

I'm of the mindset that Sliders 1 and 2 were really good but 3 onwards weren't.

Obvs before it shat the bed.

I keep buying stuff from Amazon for free because they keep giving me credit for fucking stuff up. What that dude is doing is buying stuff off Amazon with money they don't have right now. Then again it's a western staple to build up mountains of unsecured debt.

But isnt that actually "normal" with western anime-fans. I mean I have been in the "scene" for like 15 years now, collecting manga, watching anime etc. and it seems the ones with fanservice/moe are always selling better/are more popular than lets say the more serious/mature ones.

Sadly, yes.

Wouldnt say its western, but more american. I mean even on GAF I see people getting a credit for a new car while they are still studying. I dont know anyone in Europe, whether its Germany, UK, Spain or Sweden who does that.

But we also dont really have "credit scores" and I never got when people talk about "fucking your credit up".

I'm down. Sliders was fantastic, I really enjoyed the show. Hell, that whole timeslot in the late 90's/early 00's where you'd switch on BBC2 at 6pm and get the Simpsons, then Sliders, Buffy, Star Trek, Robot Wars, Farscape and other geeky shows was pure bliss.

In other news, Football Manager 2016 reviews have been dropping, and things are looking good. There's a lot more information at your fingertips, and it's presented in a very accessible way, so you can easily tell if your players can actually play where you put them, and how effective they'll be at the various roles you can assign. It's lovely stuff. The Guardian's review had this line in, which made me chuckle. So that's nice.

You’ll still go through those periods where you can’t buy a win, even if you are managing in Italy.

People sure loves to talk about fallout 4's graphics on the gaming side

Welp going to give New Vegas a try, I'll probably sidetrack to another game due to my shitty attention span, but whatever

Hopefully with Dragon Quest Heroes reaching Steam and DQ VII and VIII for DS, we'll probably see a port on PC too for those two titles, when SE will finish to release FF ports with VI.

Crazy times when such a usual console franchise like DQ comes to PC. Definitely more interested in the main new game rather than heroes but it bodes well for that coming in the future as well.

Posting more on gaming side is a tad eye opening. Apparently a game that has rendering stalls, even if only occasional is perfectly playable and a quick time event is defined by a button press even if that just so happens to be a central game mechanic without a prompt. Yeah...

Anywho Tomb Raider is the knees of the bee. Can definitely see where concessions have been made but that makes wanting to play it on my PC even more exciting.

Is it still laden with torture porn?

That being said, I really enjoyed Tomb Raider. It was a pretty pleasant 100%
of the SP content.
