Confession: I've never played a Resident Evil game.
Just never found the right place and time to jump in, I guess.

So many of you here are so passionate (for and sometimes against) each title in the series, that I'm really starting to think that I've dearly missed out on something here.

Where would be a good place to start for someone new to the series?

i've played a bunch of them and am more of a fan of the earlier more survival-horror puzzly style of games

out of those i'd recommend re2, since imo it's simply the best one. some things aged like crap like tank controls and the saving system is pretty jarring in the current checkpoint age but i still think it's a lot of fun and i think the atmosphere is the absolute best in the series

also you can play like the first few hours of re4 and then drop it, that's also really good

all the games have a lot of ties with each other but the story's pretty out there (and pretty bad at that) so it's not like you're missing out on much if you miss a couple games.

If you're looking for a more classic Resident Evil game then I'd recommend what is arguably the best game in the series (releases on steam in early 2015 though)

If you want a more action oriented Resident Evil experience then I'd go for RE4

Aside from the 3ds rev demo, the last time I played a resident evil game was the first on ps1 as a very little kid. My only memory of it is the Moonlight Sonata in the main hall

I started playing Revelaitions last night and while I like it a lot more than I expected (somehow) goddamn aren't the enemies silly.

"Burr, I am an actual enemy from Resident Evil: Revelaitions HD Super Deluxe"

Also the story is super cheesy so far (EP1 just) even on Resident Evil scale

Jessica looks kind of ridiculous, but as far as sex appeal goes, I'm not really seeing anything wrong with Rachel. That's not to say the outfit looks practical, but I always thought the logic of costumes like that was, "This jumpsuit isn't going to do jack to protect me if someone tries to shoot/stab/claw/etc. me while I'm wearing it, so I may as well just unzip the damn thing." Neoprene holds in heat, so maybe she needs to keep the front open to stay cool.

if spiders are a problem for you then you're kind of fucked. i know 1, 2, 3 and 5 have spiders, can't quite remember about 4 but i think that one's ok.

also that remaster thing is super weird, like they devote a whole feature section to widescreen support and has lines like "More detailed graphics that retain the horror.".

like cmon cpapcom you can do better than that

Even Jill unzips hers! I'm convinced Rachel unzipped hers too far, then couldn't get it zipped back up, so left it.

RE bonus costumes would suggest otherwise. Mainly RE5 and RE6, although I guess only RE5 was made prior to Revelations. But yes, the new characters in Revelations weren't exactly good.

I played Revelations at launch on the 3DS and really liked Parker, didn't you? Everyone else wasn't good but I thought Parker was the most charismatic character to come out of the series in a long time. Plus he did have some interesting subtle (pretty rare for modern day RE) stuff like his alcoholism in the aftermath of Terragrigia.

I hope he returns for Revelations 2, don't care about anyone else.

There's school girl Sherry which is somewhat gross but otherwise they're still pretty down to earth in RE6. Don't remember what you unlock in RE5. If nothing else, in context of the main game the difference is dramatic. Especially in RE6 where you can't bring costumes into story mode without mods.

Sherry is in RE2 but she is pretty much a new character, and Helena certainly is so compared to what Revelations introduced the difference is very apparent.

Yep. I was shocked how good of a job his VA did and yeah, despite the story not being great he was very personable and also acknowledged the ridiculousness of the situation. So hopefully Claire/Moira/Barry meet up with him.

Just bought RE4, and that's it for me in the sale. I decided I would rather not revisit RE6 despite it being a decent action game in its own right like 4.
