I've finished Fairy Fencer F today, or rather decided to abandon my futile quest to 100% it, that's why
[...]
these are my stats after 3 playthroughs and 106 hours

Very similar to me - gave up with same 3 achievements missing and 105 hours in.

I can only conclude that the 100m gold achievement is a cruel joke by the devs.

Telltale, this is not GoT, where's all the
sex
?

I liked what His Grace, Stannis of House Baratheon, First of His Name, King of the Andals and the First Men, Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, and Protector of the Realm had to say on the sex in GoT.

Stannis the Mannis said:
“I’m a bit old for it. It doesn’t particularly appeal to me, reminds me of German porn from the 1970s. But I presume it serves a purpose, and the merits of the show far outweigh my concerns on that score.”

You know what I've been realizing as I watch LPs of my game? A lot of the newer age horror fans don't seem to be familiar with safety or nice feelings or moments in horror games to contrast the horrors and the terrors. It makes sense, since a lot of modern horror games don't have any downtime moments and often are relentless, so I guess that's what they expect and are used to. But that makes me a bit sad, in my opinion a good horror game isn't just horror & gore, all the time, I think the best horror is one that explores the senses and emotions, shifting power positions, shifting levels of terror, contrast of feelings. It's something I hadn't really thought about, that people who have only played recent horror games wouldn't know about the comforts of safe rooms or strangely touching or beautiful moments in horror games, but I kind of realized it seeing so many have a reaction to certain scenes and surprised by it. One LP'er was even going on about it in this one scene, she was saying things like, "I know this is a weird word to describe a horror game, but I feel... safe, this is comforting, kind of beautiful." And it's made me realize that these moments have been missing from a lot of recent horror games when I think about it.

Not really Steam related, but I just wanted to jot down those thoughts. I think horror games shouldn't just explore fear, terror, etc., but I think the best horror contrasts this with other feelings, emotions, and intrigue. As someone who loves Resident Evil and Silent Hill, which definitely both incorporate this to some degree, I find it something I don't even really think about, but interesting how one only used to recent horror could have a very different outlook and find such moments surprising.

I have no idea what I'm doing in MGS4. I didn't know back then either, but I thought having played V, I'd be somewhat familiar. It took me an hour of playing realize that the arrow on the corner of your screen is just pointing North, and not at your destination. That lead to a lot of running around.

And the game is dark. There's NVG, but still, items are incredibly easy to miss.

Okay guys, starting Witcher 3.
See you in November.

I just started it the other day and I'm convinced I'll never finish it. It's too pretty, and I'm too focused on these side missions.

I want to brag a bit and say that the DS4 is glorious with this game. I set up touchpad swipes for the various menus, touchpad buttons for map/inventory, and I'm using a shift mod with the Right Trigger & face buttons to select and cast signs. Feels good.

I'm excited to finally get the Steam controller so we can come up with funky control setups and share them with each other. It'll be nice to see how people use the thing in a year or two.

They're selling source code? What?

There's free Spelunky Classic + L'Abbaye des Morts if you enter your email at the bottom.

It's not a bad bundle if you want Game Maker for cheap and missed the free Pro period a few years ago. Game Maker is a wonderful game development engine, especially for 2D games, it's one of the most highly rated and recommended engines.

But selling source code seems kind of strange to me. Like... What am I supposed to do with the source code? I guess study is the implication, learn from it, but couldn't people just modify the code and make their games from it? Is that what selling it is for?

So is Gamemaker Studio Pro good for a complete beginner who has absolutely zero coding knowledge?

You will probably need to watch a few tutorial videos to learn the interface and the basics, but Game Maker is a very good 2D engine, one of the best. Its very versatile, and allows beginner's to use it, as well as experienced users. There's things you obviously can only do if you know programming, but you can certainly make things without knowing it either. It also supports multiple coding languages, and it's a popular engine so there's a lot of good tutorials and community, and a lot of community-made assets and code for use by itself.

I remember when you unlocked costumes and shit just by beating a Metal Gear game.

Those were the days.
I was going to respond by posting a comic, but I realized that those days are so far gone that everyone's heard the joke before.

Safe rooms are one of the best mechanics in horror games. Not just in providing a contrast to the horror and letting you recover rather than be numbed by a nonstop parade of death, but also in setting expectations that can later be undermined.

Fairy Fencer F short, spoiler free review.

The essential question here is "do you like fairies"? Exactly! What's not to like?
That's why I easily can recommend this game for everybody. You can stop reading here and go play a game. Want to know more? keep reading

The game has fairy simple and straightforward story, the battle between good and evil, it's not particularly interesting but passable. Characters are not bad, even though some of them have seelie habits.

But most importantly a game is fun to play. How fun? In sprite of being very combat heavy it doesn't feel like it, mostly because dungeons aren't big and manageable in one sit.

Onto combat itself. All characters have skills (unique to character), magic, physical attacks of different weapons styles and one special skill which can be used in fairisied form. All of those have range, hit count and power. String of attacks until you are hit by enemy is a combo of course and you'll get that tingly feeling all over after launching a good one, also you can trigger avalanche attacks and do aerial combos. All this makes combat varied and fun.

There is a slight balance issue, though. A game is supposed to be played at least twice, first time around it feels like you are underleveled most of the time, the second time that you are too powerful already. It could have been easily avoided by having normal and hard modes, imo. On the bright side, it being as it is, makes all playthroughs after the first one really fast.

Onto not so good part, some of those ingame challenges and some achievements are mean, unfair and unnecessary time consuming.
