I still think that game uses too much VRAM and there is no difference between Normal and High but game demands 4GB VRAM for High settings for nothing.

Or the Forza 6 thread about the demo. Got completely butt-fucked by SonyGAF. Without lube.

Probably a bit miffed GT6 only sold 2.6m copies. Which to be fair for most driving games isn't to be sniffed at but GT is a juggernaut and has sold 10's of millions of copies for previous home console versions.

Yup, I saw the beginnings of that thread too. Somehow the nasty Xbox pulled ahead in some metrics and fans of the other team came down on the devs like a ton of bricks.

It occurs to me that the only reason to read these threads is because once in a while Horse Armor/Mr. Orange manage to reel in a few posters.

If I lost my shit every time a big budget multiplat title doesn't take advantage on my PC I'd have an aneurysm in a month. Thankfully I'm in to this hobby for more than nerd porn and can quite happily just play something I enjoy regardless of technical grievances.
Yes, yes I'll bloody finish The Witcher III alright!

lazy devs

they should've made a different version of their game for each individual platform they're developing for

Many moons ago that used to happen. Then again there was also the horror of Street Fighter II on the Speccy in all it's yellow screen glory.

I'm not tellin' anyone that they can't complain about change in a franchise, I'm telling everyone that thinks cutscenes are good that they're factually wrong and should go watch movies if they like cutscenes, that's all.

Also if MGSV was as cutscene heavy as the past games I would've likely hated it. Cutscenes are a way of storytelling and exposition that's used by designers that can't overcome the obstacle of storytelling without taking the player out of the game, which I sodding hate. :p

And Kojima's cutscenes and his style just shows that the dude has always wanted to make movies, even if he doesn't know it. :p

I felt he always had a good balance in MGS 1-3. It was MGS4 where things went overboard.

Oh so the "high" setting is for PCMRs to feel superior when they screencap their video options?

I need some help. I just bought KF2 from nuuvem but it does not appear in my games. When I check the status of the order it says cancelled but in my paypal account says the transaction was completed. Is this normal?

I bought other games from nuuvem months ago but the key was available right away. Also sent a ticket to support but I'm not sure how quickly they'll reply.

Thanks

I bet high is a placebo setting that does noithing other than request slightly more VRAM to keep some folks happy so they can twiddle knobs up to full. Funny thing I remember on Remedy's forums when they were releasing patch notes for Alan Wake is Markus made a comment about moving the FOV settings out of the graphics options menu as folks were sending in support tickets that their view was messed up and too far away. Upon inspection they were maxing every setting out, including FOV!

Oh wow! I guess I shouldn't be surprised by that.

Is that why so many games only let you change your FOV by editing an .ini file?

Speaking of episodic games, went to check what's up with KRZ and the Steam page is full of negative reviews for me now. People had enough of waiting.

I think I'm gonna go on HL2:EP2's page and make a negative review. It's been 8 years and the next episode isn't even out, wtf is this shit? And people complain about LiS, KR0 and Telltale wank. Bitches dunno how good they got it.

I honestly understand the annoyance about KR0, at launch they made it seem like the other episodes would be released within months, certainly not years. Each one is pretty short as well, which of course has no bearing on their quality but when there is almost a year between 90 minute episodes.....

Of course you know what you're getting into now, but at at launch that wasn't clear.

And flying into an occupied helicopter zone in MGSV is annoying, they circle the location as slowly as possible before putting you down as you get shot to pieces. Just fly close to the ground!

No idea really, every game is different and quite a few these days have multiple FOV values depending on what the camera is doing. Seeing as there's some Life is Strange talk this is probably quite apt but bizarrely that uses 2 FOV values, one for gameplay and another for cinematics/talkie scenes. Found this out when trying to get 21:9 resolutions going but just changing the FOV constraint from horizontal to vertical messed up the UI (and Scaleform is a pig to work through and alter) which you need to interact with objects. So the other option I tried was changing the FOV angle globally but this cropped cincemtaics. So had to make 2 toggles at slightly different values so they rendered correctly without cropping but works well enough for me, well providing I remember to switch the FOV between cinematics and gameplay.

the heck is a speccy!?

Only the best home computer know to man!

Well in my eyes any way, when I was a young 'un, a very long time ago.

I'm getting some good fun from Bioshock Infinite, definitely worth 1€.

Kinda annoying tho how it pushes you to break the pace to search everywhere for cash, and even more how it seems to force completionists to a whole lot of backtracking (or a NG+ run even?), considering I'm finding plenty of expensive locks to pick and very few picklocks around.

I love me collectable easter egg style hunts as you all well know but I loath Bioshock's rummaging through bins for health and ammo. It really kills the flow in some areas of Infinite and they're not positioned well in the build up to or the aftermath of encounters which is when you'd need both.

What size do people think is the sweet spot for a desk monitor (16:9)? I've been using a 22" for several years and I think that's going to be my next upgrade.

Rather than crack open idlemaster, I decided to try some games that I acquired and had yet to play. So with that said...here are some impressions for the mystery-game-I-won-that-one-time Titan Attacks:

When you start the first wave, the immediate thought is, "Oh. It's like an easier Space Invaders." When you END the first wave, that becomes, "Oh. It's Space Invaders with upgrades." But the further you progress, the more you see it's not just Space Invaders with upgrades, but rather it's several retro arcade games, not merely rolled into one, but almost simultaneously. After a while you're not just dealing with square aliens, but also vector asteroids that crash down (and that you can shoot to break into smaller asteroids, but it's probably better to just avoid them cause you get no points for them.) A little further on, and the aliens start swarming in Galaga patterns. Or crowding in on you from the top of the screen and overlapping, which is exactly like a game I know I've played but whose name escapes me right now.

The game is altogether not terribly tough, but the boss fights can be quite challenging (and of course checkpoints only occur every 20 levels so if you lose to the boss, you've gotta do 20 levels all over again.) You don't necessarily play to beat the game, because there are also highscores - local, online, and Steam Friends. I found myself wanting to play until I could beat the top of my Steam Friends leaderboard (sorry, Ozium. I'm sure you could beat me with a few minutes of play, though.)

The graphics are chunky but good, the music is chippy but good, the controls are just a hair slower than I'd like, but are still fine. It's a good game you can play if you only have a few minutes. (Or if you want a break from Phantom Pain, I guess.) I've got 9 friends who own the game, and only three on the leaderboard, so if you've got it, I recommend giving it a go.

Depends on resolution I'd say (and proper resolution not screen resolution). So for 1920x1080 I'd say 24" tops as that's 92 PPI and for a 2560x1440 monitor I'd say 27" minimum (109 PPI) and 32" max (92 PPI) as that's about the threshold for me at my height not to get all out of posture. Windows still has high DPI/PPI scaling issues with some legacy and Win32 applications but it's slowly getting there though.

Does it require much more horsepower to run at 1440p? I'm currently running 2x 780 SLI (which is unfortunately only 3GB).

Depends on the game but in and around 20-30% more GPU usage over 1920x1080 in most big budget titles and VRAM can be next to nothing to 500mb depending on how it renders. Though I had 2 780's in SLI for 18 months and never had any problems at 2560x1440 outside of Ultra textures in Watch_Dogs (Unity really does need more than 3gb VRAM but it handled it a lot better). Best thing to do is try out a few games you have now DSRed at 2560x1440 to get a feel of where you are but everything that had even reasonable SLI scaling I could get in and around 60.

I never bothered much with the collecting, if anything play this on Easy and go for the ride.

I dunno if it has NG+, I just deduced it from how the hidden stuff and sidequests are built in the flow of the game (as in: it would be much easier to just go for a second playthrough than backtracking all the way down the first areas to unlock some random chest that would contain some buzzkill cash anyway).

And I'm playing at normal and I'm finding it extremely easy.
I'm currently going toward
the Hall of Heroes
, and I don't know if it's still early, but up until now I just tanked through every fight with no sweat at all, and I usually suck bad at FPS with magic stuff - and anyway I remember the few minutes I played of Bioshock 1, and it totally kicked my butt, difficulty-wise.

Actually, the easiness is quite bothering me. Like they had to squeeze the combat inside the game as an afterthought. I don't know if to pad it out or to cater it to the largest audience as possible, but that's what I'm getting from it.

I love me collectable easter egg style hunts as you all well know but I loath Bioshock's rummaging through bins for health and ammo. It really kills the flow in some areas of Infinite and they're not positioned well in the build up to or the aftermath of encounters which is when you'd need both.

It's not even that they're badly positioned, it's that they are positioned in every possible corner, bench, trash bin, nook and cranny they could find.
They are deprived of any possible sense of achievement (the little you could get finding money in a trash can anyway), and are just a straight-out chore you have to do if you want to see what an upgrade does.
