My Steam client decided to automatically download Half Life 2 episode 1 and 2 (7GB). This have anything to do with buying Garry's mod?
Yup. Wait, like the full on games? Cause it uses those files and whatnot. But can you actually play HL2?

Made an agreement with another GAF member, refused to honor it because he was broke, but then had no problem continuing to buy video games.

Does it give you a really original scenario compared to the rest of the game? I like DLC that tries to stray from the path a bit.

Yes, big departure from main New Vegas. This one was fairly dark actually.

I'm on the fence about Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. I played Assassin's Creed II on the Xbox 360, and I enjoyed the game a lot. How well does Brotherhood run on the PC?

Having a weird problem with the Sanctum demo (unless it's supposed to do this, but I don't see why it would).

Playing the tutorial, and when it asks me to aim at the blue square on the ground, I move the mouse to point at the ground, and the game automatically starts moving the crosshair back up towards the sky again. I've even tried letting go of the mouse - the crosshair will just move upwards on its own.

I've turned off mouse scrolling and mouse smoothing, and turned down the mouse sensitivity, but none of them seem to have made any difference.

Am I just being stupid and it's meant to do this? Seems strange if it is.
sounds like a mouse bug to me. Check your drivers

I got the Honest Hearts DLC for New Vegas since I heard it was really good, but how's Dead Money? When it came out I didn't hear great things about it...
I just bought both. I mean, why the heck not? I don't want to regret it all the way until the next sale.

Yeah. Too bad when you link it to Steam there is a 5gig update. The initial Amazon download is 7gigs.
That's not possible. The steam version is less than 5GB.

The amazon download must be in a different format.

As someone who played maybe an hour of Just Cause 2 on 360 and ended up shelving it, is there anything that should make me give the Steam version a look besides prettier visuals?
Mods, better control scheme (imo), visuals, performance.

I fucking LOVE just cause 2.

It needs another source game for content.

Ya, I have HL2 installed. But, I guess it wants to use additional content from EP1 and EP2 (which I don't have installed). Thanks.

Loving Just Cause 2 so far. Don't know why it took me this long to buy the game since it always goes on sale for $5. Anyway, I had some questions about the DLC. Is this the type of DLC that eventually appears in the game after you play it or is it exclusive content? If it's the latter, is the Monster Truck, Hovercraft or Jet worth getting? And are they readily available or do you need to find them?

The DLC weapons and cars are bought from the black market dealer at any time. Out of those three, I'd go with the Monster Truck, it's pretty fun to drive it down mountains.

Gah I said I was done spending money and now you guys are making me want to buy JC2 even though I didn't get much playtime out of the 360 version, for sandbox games Saints Row has always been more up my alley (I enjoy the stories more than the sandbox stuff, at least thus far). It's only $5 but still! Blah! Frick on a stick!

So this tower defence/fps Sanctum... any good?
I've done the first three levels now on easy. It's very fun to play. Co-op should be even better (up to 4 players!). Recommended.

I don't know how it runs on the PC, but if you care about the over-arching Assassin's Creed story at all, you might want to play Brotherhood sooner or later. As (I typed "ass" huhuhuhu) a game, it's just like Assassin's Creed II with a few new cool features, so if you wanted more Assassin's Creed II this is a good way to get it without playing II again.

Yep, what I'm doing right now. Had $2 in Amazon credit lying around and used it towards Retribution.

DL speeds don't seem too hot for me. Tried changing the region in settings and still averaging around 200kB/s and peaking at 1MB/s. Got 26gigs worth of stuff downloading :/

Seriously. I tried it with Magicka just to save on Steam bandwidth, and it ended up being practically redownloaded anyway. Better to just straight up install on Steam unless the servers are FUBAR'd, and even then!

We should start a new thread for Steam Regrets and Disappointments - games you should have bought and games which didn't turn out how you thought they would. I'm really regretting not buying Transformers 3 War for Cybertron for $7.

Must resist getting Paradox pack..

I'm in the same conundrum! I'm debating getting the Paradox pack and the Valve pack. For the Valve pack I actually don't own any of the games in it (I'm bad I know). If I think of it as $25 for Portal 2 and $25 for all the other games it doesn't seem like such a bad deal.

The Paradox pack the only thing I have in there already is King Arthur. But at $75 I don't know. But outside of maybe Ship Simulator all of the games in it look interesting.

Can gaf talk me out of either?

Nobody on GAF is going to talk you out of the Valve pack if you don't own ANY of the games in it. That's the best value in PC gaming right there.

It's a mediocre TPS that's only overlooked if you're a huge transformers fan who will devour anything transformers.

The only cool part is the flying aspect and the levels are too cramped and short to truly utilize it.

Okay this is weird I can't download and install Borderlands for a few days now. I keep getting this error that says the servers are too busy to handle this request. That can't be right since I can download other games I just bought just fine.

Also sometimes it say it's "ready to play" but I can't obviously play it since I haven't downloaded it yet! So I ended up having to delete local content even though there's nothing installed at all! What the fuck is going on? I did this a couple of times now.

Nope the Dead Space Pack with both games was actually $20. Got no clue where he got that $15 figure from.

He had me wondering for a second if I missed some pricing mistake. I paid $20 for the set and don't remember seeing it for $15.

Both are worth it if you want everything and plan to play it, both aren't if you just want to cherry pick the best.

On Valve Pack. Everything in that pack other than Portal 2 can be attained for 5$ or less during sales. It may take a bit to collect since they do flip around. But for what its worth; Half Life, Half Life 2+Episodes, L4D2, CS:S or CS(Which ever one you prefer), and Portal. Multiple times, Portal has been given away for free, while the other ones during sales would run you about 15-20$ combined. Wait till Christmas, 10$ Portal 2. Wait till next summer, probably around 5-7$.

Paradox Pack. Same thing applies as the Valve pack, but I'd say this one has more fluff.
For example, you don't need Mount and Blade at all. Just Warband, and most seem to say hold off on Sword and Fire till a few more patches. Do you also need too strategy titles like Hearts of Iron and EUIII at the same time? Be difficult to play both of them.

If you know you'll like what is in each pack and will play it. Go for it. If not, then just wait for another sale and cherry pick each one.
