Street Fighter 5 for PS4 & PC teaser trailer

My issue is not that there's literally "no difference at all" between circumstances. It's just that I grow really, really fucking tired of the stupid console wars bullshit that arises in response to trying to establish how one isn't just different than the other, but so wildly different that it's completely ok to lose my shit when this thing happens, but when this other fairly similar but slightly different thing happens I can spin it as totally positive. I'm not saying that Tomb Raider and Street Fighter and five other game examples are exactly the same thing and it's pointless to distinguish factors at all. However, the motivation behind the deals is still entirely the same. A publisher needs/wants money, and a platform holder is trying to bolster their library with exclusives.

Agree 100%. This at the end of the day really boils down to console wars bs and which publishers/developers people are willing to give a pass too. It also basically feels like hardcore gamers saying "hey publishers this is what I want to hear to hire more PR people and get better at lying to me!"

How is it good for Xbox One owners that PS4 owners can't play Tomb Raider and vice versa for SF? These deals drive consumers toward one box or another, but that's only good for the platform holders. It would be better for the audience to be able to get any software on any platform, whenever that is a possibility (i.e., excluding games made by MS or Sony studios).
Gamers appear to prefer the competitive situation created by multiple proprietary gaming platforms pitted against each other, given we're into an 8th/9th generation of proprietary game platforms competing against each other, with no end in sight. These sort of deals are the tradeoff you're going to have to accept for having that hardware competition. They come with the territory and, let's be honest, this audience thrives on the rivalry it generates.

They can fully clarify if it is timed or full exclusive, which MS failed to do with Tomb raider, they can say Sony is co-developing or helping with the titles development...Basically clear up any confusion.

It's still a bad deal in that it's a moneyhatted exclusive if it's timed, co-development is the only way this goes over smoothly. Unless they say those words or something similar then it's just "Sony bought this game away from MS".

I honestly wish that people would stop trying to delineate every permutation of exclusivity deals to try and arrive at what "feels" right and just accept that exclusivity deals -- no matter the circumstances -- are a part of doing business and are fine. Tomb Raider exclusive to Xbox One? Good for MS, Square Enix, and Xbox One owners. Street Fighter V exclusive to PS4? Good for Capcom, Sony, and PS4 fans. Sometimes, it's an acceptable strategy to mitigate risk. Sometimes, it's necessary to get a game funded at all. But it's absolutely silly seeing people work through a bunch of extremely similar circumstances just to justify why Situation X was bullshit and Situation Y it totes on the up and up.
100% agreed.

However the way Microsoft (Phil Spencer) handled the whole situation was like a used car salesman.

Holy megaton! But it makes sense given all the hints that were dropped.

You gotta feel sorry for Sony though; no matter how hard they try, there is always some 3rd party intern that fu*** up the reveal.
Also, sucks for the Xbox One owners. But knowing Capcom, everybody will get treated to the SFV special edition 6-12 months later.

Hopefully it is better than Street Fighter IV.

Graphics wise (hopefully that's alpha placeholder stuff currently) it doesn't look like it will be.

Gameplay wise I fucking hope so.

Also that PC version I still feel will be dubious. They are gonna push the PS4 hard, PC version will probably still come out months later with a less than stellar netcode. Yes I am being a downer but that will probably happen again :/.

Hmm, I presume latter iterations won't have any exclusivity (in this case exclusivity meaning exclusively not on Xbox), and considering this is Capcom - Super SFV could be released 5 months later if MvC3 was anything to go by. I have been itching to try a SF like fighter with the DS4 d-pad, so looking forward to playing this.

How I feel about 3rd party exclusives.

Titanfall = WTF? Why? F U Microsoft.
Dead Rising 3 = Weird but doesn't look like my kind of game.
Tomb Raider = Wow. I'm just not surprised anymore.

Street Fighter V = Makes sense. No longer surprised. It's almost expected.

Ultra, the latest edition of Street Fighter IV, literally came out three months ago.

Ultra was DLC (released six months ago in June) for Super/AE owners. The last required full version purchase was Super in 2010.

Yes, Capcom also releases full retail versions of the games for those who don't own the older editions. I don't see why this is a bad thing -- you shouldn't be forced, in 2014, to track down a copy of the four-year old Super and then upgrade to AE and then upgrade to Ultra.

I never said it was nor was my post about that, you lamented the fact how bad the announcement was...i just pointed out it was not an official announcement, it was a leak. The rest is irrelevant to what I was saying.

You act like it even needs to be said. Opening your wallet based on vertical slices, trailers, and target renders is tacit acceptance of these actions and we're all guilty of it in one way or another.

When I read the threat title I thought "I hope it comes to PC at one point", It wasn't until later that I realized that it was for announced PC and not the XBOne.

Uh? Sorry, but i have zero problems with this game not coming to the Xbox One. What i said about Capcom screwing part of the SF userbase is a fact, there is no way to spin that :)

I'm not trying to spin anything. I just quoted two posts of yours with contrasting reactions to the exclusivity of two different games. If you want to call that spin, then I suggest finding out what spin means.

PSA for Arcade Stick owners who don't want to buy a new one:

search neogaf for Titan One . It's an adapter that lets you use ps3/x360 arcade sticks on X1/ps4. read up on how it works too, you'll need a computer running windows (or a windows VM) and there is some setup involved.

I bought one yesterday to use on my xbox one for Killer Instinct. Will likely be buying a PS4 stick when SFV comes out.

I'm actually not saying people can't be disappointed by exclusivity. However, I am absolutely, insanely tired of the game that gets played where you can tell that people are really, really letting their platform bias guide whether or not a deal feels right or not.

This. The Tomb Raider deal sucks for PS4 owners and this deal appears to suck for Xbone owners. The mental gymnastics from various posters as to why one deal feels right and is justifiable compared to the other, extremely similar deal, are getting ridiculous.

At least in Brazil there are a lot of people playing Ultra, so I'm happy.

I won't need a new stick so soon, thanks Capcpom :3

There are a lot of players in europe as well (the competition on xbox is a lot stronger but that is an other story).

Rise of the Tomb Raider was announced at MS' E3 with no specific platforms confirmed

The only place where it was placed with PS4 was retail listings

I could be wrong here but I don't remember a single official press release mentioning Playstation for this game

I know and that's why I said it wasn't announced as exclusive, most people assumed it won't be exclusive.

I know some of you dont care about street fighter, and that's fine. I know that some of you may be upset because its console exclusive for ps4, and that's understandable also. But to say or act as if this is not a big deal is crazy. Street fighter is a big name. Everyone recognizes it from hardcore gamers to casual gamers to even people outside of gaming. Its a huge get for sony, whether they paid for it or not. And its a pretty hefty loss for the xbox.
