as long as online is smooth and buttery and i can earn decent amount of fight money from online i am happy i dont really wanna be spending hours whoring story mode for fight money

Why? For a story mode that only a handful of people are going to pick up and play through once, and mess up their Tour schedule in the process? Nah. They made the right choice.

Time spent on story mode: 3-5 hours?
Time spent in VS mode: Hundreds.

Delay the game

There are two story modes, actually. I did a write-up about them that just went up in case anybody is curious.

Dope... thanks for the write up.

Honestly... this is what i'm coming to expect from video games with a "service" style model.

- Episodic story style (in this case... a full cinematic story mode down the line)
- IV drip style content through it's life span

as long as the core experience is not screwed with... i don't mind it at all.

That handful is likely a hundred times bigger than the group that will travel to Final Round

Considering that SF IV was still a huge success in sales I doubt people care that much about a story mode being included or not. MK is much more popular that SF but that has nothing to do with MK story mode.

"You might as well have delayed the game since it should have been in day 1."

Nah fuck that. People who want the story can wait and pick the game up cheaper months down the road.
To add to that statement did we even know about this in the first place? Wasn't it wildly assumed the story mode was those comic strip "cutscenes" we saw? This just seems like a bonus to me

As a fan of... FIGHTING with my fighters, I have no problem with cinematic Story releasing as a free update later. It's cool to see them going 3D, and cool to see them rendering up characters that aren't straight fighters from the game.

It's also nice they have Character stories in there Day 1, that'll introduce the fighters, and also be available for future characters. It'll be nice to see a little something extra for each character released.

Surprised the in-game store won't be there day one.

It really is odd the game is releasing as a full price retail title with all this on-coming content, but hey, Splatoon did something similar, and I don't think that honestly held it back much. It'll feel nice to have a stream of SF to look forward to, similar to the way KI has been for the past few years.

Perfect. I guess Guile and Boxer will be the first 2 DLC. Maybe Urien or Juri since they'll need villains.

Looks great, but 4 fucking months? This is a big mistake, people hyped for single player are going to want it at launch. 4 months from then might as well be never. I think this will hurt potential sales vs a delay which wouldn't hurt anything.

They'll still only buy the base game and then Peace Out. The community will buy all the DLC characters and support the game for years. How many of that handful bought Ultra SFIV? I'd bet not a whole lot.

Stop making fun of Bengus, guys. It looks like they dropped a whole art department's worth of work on just him so he took some shortcuts. It takes a week or more for a single professional-quality illustration, and this guy has to do every single character's story mode by himself? That is ass. Give him a break for the wacky proportions and wanna-be kinu nishimura watercolor filters lol

Really though. Man had to due multiple pieces of artwork for 16 characters. Of course its not gonna look amazing.

The cool thing is balance updates and new multiplayer modes will always be free; previously we had to pay for the balance update.

A delay would have hurt the game's competitive outlook. Not only would it have screwed over the entire Capcom Pro Tour schedule, but it would have meant no Street Fighter V at EVO 2016. Capcom made the right call.

You might as well have delayed the game.

Wait for the story mode and you'll probably be able to get it for cheaper, win-win.

No way the game should miss some of the most important tournaments in the world just so they could ship it with a useless mode.

It's also interesting that the cinematics seem to all be in engine... meaning we'll have access to those character models, etc.

Modders are going to have a field day with this game

Is this for real? It would only hurt their fiscal year, the entire SF FGC and the CapCup.

First time I've ever agreed with this dude. Lol @ people thinking the FGC/tourney scene is worth more money than the casuals. More money = more content, more longevity, more games. Interrupting a tournament schedule might temporarily affect a couple thousand dudes compared to the millions who will buy the game.

With that said, I don't really care. If a delay would improve the gameplay and lead to a better overall product I'm all for it. I've waited this long, a couple more months wouldn't hurt. But since they're not delaying it, that's fine too. But to say shit like nobody cares about story mode or story mode doesn't matter is pure ignorance. How quickly we forget that this game had to get funded by SONY.

Futbol is love and truth

What's more offensive, putting a statue of Jesus in a game about beating the hell out of people, or implying that Soccer has surpassed Christianity as Brazil's major religion?

What's happened to Bengus? His art was the bomb in SFA3 but I'm not feeling it here at all.
There's a huge difference between getting commissioned to do cover art and getting commissioned to do 200 art panels on an accelerated schedule.

and while its not super high budget, there seems to be a stand in story mode for those folks who can't wait anyway.

You dudes are getting two story modes. One at launch and one 4 months from now.

This seems to be the best compromise. The hardcore gets the game earlier (with hopefully great netcode and such), the casuals still have single player content (hopefully one that teaches them the game) and then get their spectacle down the line.

I also wonder why many people buy a fighting game for what is basically 3 hours of cutscenes and like 10 fights. Story mode is a bonus...not the main draw. This isn't a Blazblue situation with a 10 hour story mode (that connects between games). MKX did a great job but the main draw of the game is still he multiplayer...no?

That would make some sense if the game we were talking about was GG or BB or well any fighting game that it's Street Fighter V. The game is going to sell well regardless of the lack of "casual modes" or the lack of "casual support".

Im by far a huge casual sf player but i would not think that even for a second capcom would delay a game for a freaking story mode and miss out on all their hardcore playerbase at the tournaments.

People seem to be playing the pax build at tourneys just fine. There's no reason they can't have more betas and an updated build to fit their schedule.

Why? Most of the community will never bother to play it since they will be busy playing online with other people. A fighting game isn't a single player experience.

There are some fighting games that have decent single player modes. :]

They can't unless Capcom wanted to screw over their Capcom Pro Tour schedule. Not to mention rule the game out from being played at EVO 2016.

Oh well, to me it seems like that this is just going to hurt the games' community at launch at least. People that are going to join these tournaments would have picked up the game no matter what even if it was delayed. But I'm sure there's a lot of people who will ignore the game at launch now and then when the game gets the story mode 4 months down the line. Those people will have forgotten about this game and the tournament people don't care about story mode, making the story mode a waste addition a waste. Seems like there will be less people playing SFV because of this decision.

But I guess this is great for those handful of people that like to enter to tournaments.

Some people are acting like adding the (second!) story mode at launch instead of four months away will suddenly increase the casual sales by 3 million or something.

People put way too much weight on story mode. Thats not why MK is so popular. Obviously it helps but i dont feel its a significant factor to its popularity.

I am usually against this DLC (even free) after release, but Splatoon proved it can work very well in competitive multiplayer games.

EGM Now said:
All of the main roster will show up in this mode, including a few of the first wave of DLC characters; as of now, however, the story won’t expand as more roster additions happen down the road.
I’m guessing Balrog, Guile, and Urien will be the first three characters released and that’ll they be involved in the cinematic story.

Balrog - Shadaloo plays a major role in the story, and Balrog’s statue is in the background of the Lair of the Four Kings stage.

Guile - Nash’s return is a big deal, and we see a photograph of Guile’s new character model in the story trailer.

Urien - SFV takes place between IV and III, so I’m sure the Illuminati will be introduced at some point in the story. Resurrected Nash has an Illuminati-esque forehead jewel, and Illuminati statues can be seen in the Forgotten Waterfall stage.
