The game has caught a lot of heat and rightly so. But it's just so damn good to play. Plus when the online works it seems very robust net code wise. I'm going to have to buy the season pass though. No way I can be bothered to save fight money or finish survival over and over or whatever. And Capcom know this. Think my main complaint is the roster being so limited at launch and the lack of challenge mode which to me is the best place to learn new characters
It's the free-to-play model on a $60 game. I don't think you're the only one who is going to break down.
I'm quoting this from the press release:
For $29.99 / 29.99 / £24.99, SFV players get all six additional characters, each with a premium costume, in addition to an exclusive PS4 theme. Each character would cost 600 Zenny individually, and each premium costume would cost 400 Zenny individually, making this a $60 value for half the price! As a final incentive, in North America, if you purchase the 2016 Season Pass before February 16 you will receive three PS4 avatars (Ryu, Chun-Li, and M. Bison) for free!
So am I to understand that the season pass DOES NOT include the premium costumes for the rest of the cast and we will still have to pay $4 each for them as they are not available through fight money?
Also, per the bolded, apparently 6 characters + 6 Costumes equals $60, the same price as the actual game that includes 16 characters with 1 alt each. "But you can get it for $30, that's half the price!" What? Where do they get this "value" from? The prices are arbitrary
Personally. I think I'm going to deal with the grind because the pass doesn't included anything else and I don't need all the costumes. I'm sure Capcom will have Double FM Weekends and such. An entire month between characters is doable and I don't need every character right away if not.
So since pre-orders got an alt for free, that means there is no way around spending the $4 per costume for the remaining 15 on the base roster, which is quite a hike from last gen. Worse than DoA5, actually. It comes to $60. For newcomer DLC costumes 6 x 4 is $24, which is just $6 shy of of the cost of the pass. So if you want the costumes I guess you might as well buy the pass and avoid the FM grind?
So assuming you're going to grind out the DLC characters but you still want the costumes, that would make the total cost of Street Fighter V $144 and you'll have 22 characters and 38 alternate costumes (including Story Mode Costumes) in the end. Everything else being implemented should be considered covered by the initial $60 cost of the game itself.
EDIT: Seriously, $4 a skin is fucking bananas. I thought SF IV's were over priced at $1.25 each back in the day. I thought DOA5's were ridiculous at $2. But $4 fucking dollars? I know, I don't have to buy it. And I won't. That doesn't mean I can't be mad about it, as I would have liked to have the costumes but I simply can't justify that.
