I showed the trailer to a buddy of mine who said he was pretty burned out on Superhero stuff, and it really got his interest. Definitely seems like the cure for the common blockbuster, in a way.

Yeah, at this point of the game I think Superhero movie is a secondary description rather than a primary. The genre needs to branch out. Squad seems to be a dark action comedy.
I wouldn't mind Batman being a mystery thriller or noir, Superman sci fi, WW greek adventure, Flash comedy action (I think it would be awesome if we got some multiverse shenanigans), Aquaman horror with political thriller, GL space opera / buddy cop.
Shazam in my mind could be that Donnor Superman with some family elements thrown in. No idea what Cyborg could be, I don't think anyone knows.
So far my working prediction is
Movie starts with Batman apprehending Harley/Joker before his retirement. Flash forward to present day, Waller & government are looking for ways to control meta humans. Waller proposes the squad for a test run, completely off the books. Flag is dating June Moone (assuming that was those two in the trailer) who is normal until an excavation that turns her into Enchantress. She is captured by some (terrorist?) group and the squad has to take them down. They finally get enchantress and she goes berserk, causing the destruction seen in the Toronto shots.
Interspersed throughout the movie is origins for some of the characters. We see Harley's transformation, Deadshot's kid at the very least. I don't think Joker will be in it besides the beginning, Harley's origin and maybe an end scene when Harley breaks him out.

This. It's easy to guess a few of the red shirts and Slipknot was always at the top of that list. He was never a maybe to be honest. It's really a matter of how and when he dies.
