I wish more people gave Kanamemo a chance. The show is really fun to watch but the loli must scare people away.

I watched Kanamemo for the first time yesterday, up until the 6, and i agree. Its very funny, i am liking it so far, but the loli + yuri isnt for everyone i guess :lol

Taishou Yakyuu Musume is still the best one though!

what are the good shows this season? but no moe or loli crap please.
Nada. There have been some good FMA episodes and the first two episodes of Canaan were pretty awesome, but thus far there have been no stand outs, IMO, much like the last several seasons.

Oh yeah, the recently release Hellsing OVA was pretty kick-ass.

Because Alucard is my favourite character in the series and I've never read the manga...

BTW, based on how quickly the ova series is progressing, how many more episodes would you say are left?

Well, the OVA comes out really fucking slowly, but Vol6 covered up to the end of Vol6 of the manga, and Vol7 should be most if not all of Vol7 of the manga. The manga is 10 volumes long, so we're looking at 2-3 more releases after this year.... which means at least another year or two. Lol.

I am both disappointed and pleased that the series is approaching the end. On one hand the upcoming Hellsing OVA's are among the very, very few bright spots on the anime calander, but on the other, I'll finally get to watch the whole series all the way through.

I have a lot of time on my hands these days. Are there any Shonen shows worth watching recently? I don't particularly like them, but for some reason I can kill an enormous amount of time speading through them. I haven't seen any in several years.

Did Naruto ever get back on track? What about Bleach? Is One Piece still entertaining (despite the billions and episodes and movies that have already run)?

It dosen't really, the show always had a serious tone that was present in the second half, but in the first half it was split between the light-hearted moments and the serious stuff. The second half just went away from those light-hearted moments and went completely 100% serious. Which suits the show really, makes it more like the manga. Which barely had any comedy compared to the anime.

It wasn't the comedy for me... I mean, the first half was basically whether or not the two main characters would hook up - the basic romance anime plot. It served well to introduce the characters and establish the universe. It's just that in the second half, it goes from personal politics to global politics - quite literally. It's a subtle change, one that's resolved after the Earth episodes, but it happens and the show becomes more about the future of humanity in space and less about what happens to the characters.

But you're right though. Tonally, there were serious moments in the first half. And in fact, the background of one of the major characters essentially foreshadows the entire arc of the second half.

For some reason, I decided to check out that Juuden-chan thing... and I find the concept of older women lusting over tween girls kind of disturbingly hilarious. I suppose at least Kanamemo admits that it's creepy. :lol

Busou Renkin might interest you because it's almost like a parody of shonen.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is fantastic and you should give that a watch.

seriously thats the only thing I look forward to now, anime has been dead for a few seasons for me.

There was a new anime series last season which was suppose to be from the creator of Seirei no Moribito but nobody picked it up for subbing, I think it was called Beast Tamer or something.

There's the ecchi stuff (which I'm not sure is meant to be ironic or not, since there's the show within the show), but there's also a character who basically pervs over the two girls in the show. Last episode even has the woman drool over one of the girl's (lack of) breasts.

I know I should ask this in the Learning Japanese thread, but I didn't get a reply for my last question, so I'll ask here.

Would watching anime in Japanese be a good way of learning spoken Japanese? I'm not going to be living in Japan at least for another year, but I really want to speak at least /some/ before I make the journey. Anime is really the most readily available format of Japanese entertainment for me. Would it be a good aid?

I've learned reading and writing in Hirgana, and some introductions/grammar rules.

I'm sure I'll get trolled for this, but I've watched so much anime in the last half year that I picked up a lot of basic phrases. I still need subs for when someone goes into an explanation about Super Mega Ultra Mecha Drive 2000, but I can watch a slice of life show like Aoi Hana without subs now.

There are also some random words that sound like Cantonese for some reason, so that helps for me. I think I freaked out when I heard someone say "phone" for the first time and I thought I misheard (other similar words include watermelon and suicide). :lol

If you don't need action to keep your interest, Bakemonogatari.

Is watching American cartoons a good way of learning spoken English?

It's good for picking up on phases and such, but it's not really recommended, since most anime is overdramatized and not representative of how actual japanese people talk, plus they use alot of words that aren't used in actual japanese conversations either.

Desu Desu Desu!

Just finished the released 19 episodes of Phantom ~ Requiem of the Phantom. And it is fucking EPIC . I would put it on the same level as Death Notes [kinda lower than Death Notes but almost] .

Edit: Oh! sorry this isn't a summer anime. Never mind. :D

I just remembered there's no new Bakemono this week.

:sadface

Vocabulary and grammar. Anime is best for those two as real people speaking Japanese is too fast for beginners.

Yeah, I used to think I was ballin'... then I saw a news telecast, and realized I suck ass.

I'm sure next month I will get my ass kicked even harder. :(

Im gonna second Bakemonogatari.

Ugg, so not true. I still feel very sorry for you people who arent watching Spice and Wolf.

Didn't see the fuss about that show. I thought a merchant anime may be interesting, but it didn't seem very well done and I hated the wolf character.

Sorta sad no ones looked at it, but if you're into murder mystery. Check out Umineko Naku no Koro ni. The designs are just about right, no offensive territory like the above. However, the chars can be creepy as hell.

When's the next episode of Taisho era girl baseball coming out darn it.

This week was actually a fun episode. Sort of like that "criminal catching" episode in Cross Game taken to the next logical slapstick extreme.
I guess next week is the awkward "are we really engaged" episode with random yuri jealousy thrown in.

Yes, also good OST and it gets into WTF territory at some point.
Uuuuuuuu~~...

Liked the OST, but couldn't get past the first few episodes. Seems like a kiddie mystery show (even if it has dark elements) and the little girl just pissed me of. Couldn't stand her.

Well there's more to her honestly. Did you finish Episode I? They shed more light about her as you go on. Also what about it comes off as kiddie. First I've heard of Ryuukishi called that

I don't think you could call it a kiddie mystery show after the second episode. :lol

Dude, you're missing out big time. I've read the visual/sound novel and I can tell you that it is definitely not "kiddie". It gets pretty gruesome and violent later on. Don't believe me? Wait for the next episode of the anime, episode 8 I believe. First twilight.

Anyone see Pandora Hearts 20?

WTF????

The show's really hit and miss, I'm still following it because sometimes it's really cool and the music does kick ass as someone else said in the Spring thread, but man was episode 20 and the one a few episodes earlier just totally weird. Or weirder than usual Pandora Hearts episodes.

The series might actually end on an awesome note as the setup is there. I so want the soundtrack to this show though.

Oh my God, no, just no. That show kicks ass.

I keep watching it because sometimes it is weirdly fun and it has a kind of dark atmosphere I like, but the latest episodes were weak and the way things are looking, I'm not sure I'm gonna like where things are gonna go.

Maybe he meant kiddie in the sense that the plot is stupid.

Battler: lol there's no way witches exist, nevermind the fact that I'm in some sort of pocket dimension outside the realm of multiple realities thanks to someone who's claiming to be a witch

But I guess that happens after more than a few episodes, so it probably isn't what he's talking about.

I'm curious if everyone getting chummy together is foreboding that some of them are going to finally die or if it'll go a safe route and through team work they all come out in the end ok.
