This season of SZS is already way better than the other two if the first two episodes are any indication :lol

Hey now! Let's not get excited, yet!

SZS has been really awesome so far, although it still hasn't surpassed Goku in hilarity, but that is just a matter of time.

"The twin towers of talent" in episode 2 had me rolling on the floor :lol.

Tokyo M8 is pretty awesome. It's nice to see BONES back in form. Hopefully both this and FMA:B keeps up the current quality.

And Hellsing VI better be better than V, because I'm paying more for it this time round! Blu-ray... :D

Looks like we have at least one more episode of Endless Eight to endure. Never thought I would say this but I am bored of Haruhi.

Hopefully there are at least 3 more episodes. Honestly, it would be sad if they didn't go for the symbolic, 8 since they're so close to it already. Having it last 8 episodes would also have extra symbolism, because then the final episode of Endless Eight would actually air in August! :D

They actually had an add for the first season 2 DVD coming out in August. It will be Bambo Leaf Rhapsody and several episodes of Endless Eight :lol .

If they do 8 episodes of E8, plus Bamboo Rhapsody, that leaves only 5 left in the season.

Wouldn't 5 episodes basically consume the Vanishment plot? They are doing the Vanishment plot, right?

Also, I thought E8 was supposed to last for 6 episodes total.

As disappointing as Endless Eight has been to my Haruhi-anticipating self, I still have to respect KyoAni's work as master trolls. Holding off so long on Endless Eight, then turning a little 20-page bit into half the highly-touted second season, it's masterfully done, pure genius.

And of course, regardless of trolling, I still sit through every episode and keep an eye out for the minute differences. For what it's worth, I look forward to new episodes of Spice and Wolf and Canaan more. Uh hey, at least it gives me something to look forward to when the dub rolls around. Crispin Freeman can read the same lines as much as he wants and I'll still be mesmerized.

At least next week will be the end, fairly certain of that.

One funny thing about this episode though: They rushed through most of the rest of the episode to give you false hope that they were ending the loop, then they filled the last 3 minutes with repeated animation Evangelion-style and an extended shot of a ticking clock ala-60 Minutes. :lol

And of course, regardless of trolling, I still sit through every episode and keep an eye out for the minute differences.

I've been doing that as well, but I wish they'd put some more differences into the episodes besides slightly different dialogue/camera angles. Nagato even states how different things have been, the part-time work only happened 3/5ths of the time and it had 6 variations. Yet in all 4 episodes they're handing out balloons. Seems like they could have been a lot more creative with it.

You know, the thing about this "troll-second-season" is that if it does in fact finish without even starting on Vanishment/Disappearance/whatever-the-hell-you-want-to-call-it, that would actually make a crazy kind of sense. This "renewed first season" would basically be exactly that – a new, extended version of the first season, adding in all the stuff they missed out, so that everything up to Vanishment is covered, setting the stage for the actual second season. KyoAni gets to screw around with everyone (and entertain them at the same time purely by virtue of doing so), and they basically get 14 episodes to spend being creative and weird with material that would otherwise not get much focus.

Then when the real next season comes along, it'll be nice and hard-hitting, actually being advertised beforehand, going straight into the Vanishment arc, and either a) covering some more major arcs as well, or b) having plenty of episodes to flesh out Vanishment and whatever mini-stories get included.

This also deals with a vague complaint that was always lurking in the back of my mind when I was thinking about the second season.
It always bothered me that Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody and Vanishment would be appearing in the same season, so close to one another. It would kind of make Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody feel like a tagged-on "part" of Vanishment. In the original novels, Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody appeared as just one of a collection of short stories, and then when in big-main-story Vanishment that timeline suddenly appeared again, it was cool because it came out of left field, going back to a story that had just seemed like another aside. I always kind of wished that Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody had been included in the first season, to get a similar effect. If Vanishment isn't going to appear in the same season as Rhapsody after all, I've pretty much got my wish.

At any rate, I think the important question at this point is when that real second season is going to arrive. Because it's all very well teasing us with this "season 1.5", as it were, but just airing this and then going silent on the Haruhi front for a few more years... now, that would be unacceptable.

Dude, you are totally all kinds of right. Unfortunately, I don't know if I actually trust KyoAni to actually bring out season 2 at a decent time. Especially after how successful K-on! was. Hell, look at how heavily they milked Clannad.

Seriously, half the season is Endless Eight? Way to kick fans in the nuts. This is worse than when they tried to be deep and air season 1 out of order.

"I'm going to kill you so I don't have to watch your fucking shit again."

I really don't understand where they are coming from.
Both Kadokawa & KyoAni. It's like... they want it to suffer. I'm saddened there hasn't been some animators/employees posting on 2ch that they've been wipped into doing this and if they have to animate Mikuru crying one more time they'll jump out a window.

On a positive note I'm loving SZU.

:lol

Umineko continues to deliver! Ono and Horie really hit it out of the ball park. Hell everyone does.

Not to mention the 2nd twilight occurs

But man Maria was creepy as hell.

I'm thinking this as well. It's pretty much the only way they can get themselves out of this mess :/

It's called Type Moon HIV. After 4-5 eps it'll develop into full blown Type Moon Aids. There's pretty much zero hope for the story or characters at this point. I just hope ep13 will be an insane and awesome fight between Canaan and Alphard with superb animation. :P
Well I guess I'd be pleased with an ep like that… I didn't know what to expect from them in terms of story so I wasn't really disappointed, and animation makes the show worth it :P

Really liked Umineko ep3, it's starting to form up… Thinking about watching Higurashi (seems to follow the same psychological/gore bases)… but I thought about asking here first… should I?

I actually really liked the (cock)tease at the end of this week's Haruhi time loop. It basically lead to an anti-climax and more frustration.

I'm sorry, but I think this mindfuckery is awesome in that it's meant to force you to identify with being stuck in an endless loop. This is basically a small scale version of what Nagato would feel; constant frustration at being stuck watching the same events over and over again with no ability whatsoever to stop it from happening again and again.

It's great. :lol

I watched the E7 movie the other day. WTeffin'F. Let me just say it was bad. The animation was poor for what I think was a theatrical release and the alternate universe storyline wasn't very good either. I love E7, but i still went into this with an open mind. I was ready to like it, but it didn't fulfill its end of the bargain.

Why they even bothered to make an incredibly uninspired, convoluted and cheapened version of E7 is beyond me.
Cash in remakes don't have to be bad!

Why did I watch it. :_:

The bigger disapointment about E8 is that Nagato's personality doesn't allow her to mess up the timeline outside of buying a different mask at the festival, her having fun with no restraints for a few cycles, would've been cool. :(

This weeks cycle was the biggest cocktease ever, especially if you've got a time bar at the bottom counting down when the episode would end, episode looked to breeze through the loop quicker than normal, then BAM looprolled at end.

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-07-16/inuyasha-final-chapter-gets-tv-anime-green-lit

This year's 34th issue of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine will announce next Wednesday that an Inuyasha Kanketsu-hen (Inuyasha Final Chapter) television adaptation of Rumiko Takahashi's manga has been green-lit. The anime will broadcast on Japan's YTV this fall and cover the story in volumes 36 to 56 of the manga — the final 21 compiled book volumes. The original staff and cast will reunite for the new anime adaptation.

Shonen Sunday had promised earlier this month that it will be including a special news announcement about Inuyasha in issue #34. Takahashi had ended the Inuyasha manga in the same magazine last June. She has been serializing a new manga called RIN-NE (Kyōkai no Rinne) in the magazine as well as on TheRumicWorld.com website for North America readers since April 22. Viz Media has been releasing the Inuyasha manga in North America, and it has also released the original 2000-2004 television anime adaptation.

Manga is being officially released in Japan and NA simultaneously?

It's me or the Seinen genre is laking this year ?
I'm following just 2 shows, and I fully recomend them:

Kemono no Souja Erin [Fantasy/Seinen]

kemono.jpg

And the new Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 [Slice of life/Seinen]

tokyo-magnitude-8.jpg

Tokyo Magnitude I like, apart from the bland character designs. And Canaan, for some reason, probably because the animation is top-notch.

Kyōkai no Rinne is the first and only case of this as far as I know, but Viz will probably do more eventually. I'm guessing they will do the same for the manga in Ikki once they catch up to Japan.

Probably late but inuyasha's ending chapters getting animated. Although I never finish the anime series because it's too fucking long maybe I will watch it.

All I need now is a Rurounin Kenshin reboot....by Studio Gallop. Fuck Studio Deen.

Edit: And fuck yeah fairy tail anime website is open

How on EARTH is Kemono no Souja seinen? Not only does Nahoko Uehashi not write manga and therefore kind-of fall out of the whole classification thing, but it's a kid's show on Saturday mornings on NHK; it's like saying Cardcaptor Sakura is seinen.

(Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 has no classification in my head because it's an anime-original, although I suppose seinen will do by virtue of Noitamina's target demographic).

I think there's a lot more in the way of sort-of seinen shows this year than you think. Based purely on where their manga runs (even if they're originally games/novels/whatever) this year there's been Basquash, Valkyria Chronicles, Spice and Wolf II, RideBack, Taishou Yakyuu Musume, DOGS, Chi's Sweet Home (seriously), Haruhi season 2 and Saki amongst others, all of which are seinen titles.

The whole shounen/shoujo/seinen/josei thing doesn't mean very much in the long run.

Seirei no Moribito ran on Sat or Sun morning on NHK as well and I think that was classified as seinen...atleast, I remember seeing it in the car once or twice on the oneseg tuner on a weekend trip. Author of the original story for both are the same...

Bakemonogatari's scripting/dialogue/acting is pretty top good. Really enjoying the first 3 eps so far, though it's a bit odd (not sure if that's the right descriptor) hearing the main protagonist since I got used to his acting in Natsume.

Umi monogatari was a bit cheesy and cliche but still heart warming for the first ep and a half...then it turned into some henshin chick anime...would have kept watching had it not been for that...don't even think it was necessary.

Is anyone watching Saki, btw?

Oh my god, not only is Canaan fucking retarded in the writing, but they decided to ship ep3 off to the Korea too! My eyes, ears and mind are all bleeding from the pain now. :/

Seirei no Moribito is not seinen. It's based on a novel, which negates the whole question anyway, and regardless the manga runs in a shounen anthology (Shounen Gangan). I think the assumption on our part as an audience is that anything that isn't insultingly juvenile must be seinen or josei, when it's more the fact that anime studios think/know most people watching their shows are stupid so dumb everything down :p

The only reason I watched the first episode was because i was hoping for them to start kicking ass then. Junichi Sato is king of the post-Sailor Moon magical girl show, and transformations and attacks don't have to preclude an emotional undercurrent.

interesting how Devil May Cry is mentioned in one of the documents in ep 16 of valkyria chronicles..something about world sales, character of rich individuality, etc...

Third episode of Taishou Yakyuu Musume was great.
The girls getting owned was a given, altho I thought it would at lest get to the 2nd inning ><
I've noticed lately that with the exception of Nabari, I've liked everything I've seen made by J.C.Staff.

Yeah, I wonder if the baseball takes a back seat now and we get teen angst and yuri yearnings now. :lol

Old news, but I finally caught the remainder of Eden of the East. God, what a tease for the movies.

Kemono no Souja Erin looks interesting. Only had Guin Saga to satisfy my fantasy needs.

What the... 23 episodes already? Oh man, what have I've been missing

It starts out a little slow but ramps up nicely. But they're kinda milking a particular scene far too often for my liking.
