Despite the fact that I really like the Sailor Moon series I didn't think this was a very good film. Whomever it was that thought the Sailor Moon S movie was bad, this one is worse.
Like the first movie this is an original story but it really came across as just a bad hour long filler episode. I thought the short Ami's First Love with this film was more interesting honestly, despite the fact that it also comes across as a bit of a filler type episode.
First of all I thought the premise or motivation of the villain just came across as silly and uninteresting. The SuperS series actually addresses a similar theme in regards to the characters
the Amazoness Quartet
but there it comes across as more interesting in part because of their relationship with the series villain, unlike in the movie where there really is no background.
The general monster designs of the "BonBon Babies" didn't really appeal to me personally that much either. The initial fight and some of the animation like Rei's countering kick I thought was nice but overall they weren't very interesting. The defeat of the henchmen type characters felt sudden and anticlimactic to me personally.
The only parts I probably really enjoyed is the very brief look at the girls when they were younger at the beginning of the film, when the girls are just visiting and reminiscing while making cookies and their antics around that and lastly during their first encounter with one of the antagonists where they are
trapped in an illusion, thinking they see a candy house and appear as little kids again while in the playground. Kawaii!
I also recognized Peruru was voiced by Chika Sakamoto who I just heard as Campanella in Night on the Galactic Railroad.
In the end this is probably my least favorite of all the works of Sailor Moon that are animated. There's most likely more problems that can be addressed by I'll just leave it at that.
North American anime distributor Funimation announced at its Otakon panel on Saturday that it has licensed the following anime: Tenchi Muyo! War on Geminar (Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari), Space Battleship Yamato Resurrection, One Piece Film Strong World, the Fairy Tail: Hōō no Miko film, and Akira. In addition, the company has added additional rights to Aquarion Evol, Lupin III: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine, Sankarea, and Maken-Ki! Battling Venus. The company has also licensed season two of Fairy Tail and season five of One Piece.
I'm basically done watching the anime now and I'll probably have some more final thoughts at a later time. I was thinking of moving to 3D and taking a look at PGSM next.
It's really a shame that I am going to spend some time discussing the art in this episode. It would be nice if art was one of those things that just stayed consistent throughout a show and I could just focus on discussing how engaging the story is, how good the characters are and how effective the direction is. Alas, this is an anime and I've come to expect that it's going to be inconsistent.
What's impressive about the ugly art this episode is how upfront the show is about. This is actually the first shot of the episode:
Within seconds you can already see that art is going to be pretty spotty for the rest of the episode. I mean, just look at those characters! Not that the background is doing much better, the way that the camera is positioned actually makes the whole flower shop look false and flat, more like a stage set than a real location.
Also, I was not expecting this:
These two deserve each other and their ugly hats. Just don't wear them in public.
I don't want to bang on about the art more than I have to because all the other parts of the show really serve to elevate it past that stumbling block. All the character interaction is as good as ever and I particularly like this scene:
The symbolism here isn't exactly subtle, but I like how it was handled anyway.
Finally, I'd like to point out that after cars, CG is killing something else off. That's right, cigarette smoke!
I don't believe that the rules on top ten lists were laid down by God himself. Rather, they seem to be pretty flexible tools. Ignoring, for a moment, that that wasn't the most serious top ten list in the world, I don't really see a problem with being selective in that manner. After all, what is the purpose of a top ten list?
One purpose is simply to highlight your own personal tastes in a given area. Yet that's not their only role - they also serve as a signpost to other people providing them with guidance about what they should spend their time on. So you're saying "here are my tastes and you should also try these things out as well because I like them". In that regard it makes perfect sense to only recommend what you like.
It could work for the beginning to whatever point, but when you start skipping all over the place, things get messy. I know there are people here that don't value context, but I imagine that's not how most people operate.
Summary of any worthwhile thing Maruyama said at his Otakon panel:
- He wants to make Pluto, but it needs to be 8 hour long episodes. Someone give him money to do it, and he'll do it. Open your wallets now.
- He wants to complete Kon's Dream Machine within the next 5 years. Open your wallets now.
- Before making Kids on the Slope with Watanabe, he was actually trying to get several projects off the ground at Madhouse with the director. None of them ever got into production. They actually completed a script for a movie once, but that got canned too.
- He would like to work with Kawajiri again, but the bastard is still at Madhouse so it would be hard. If they do work together again he would want Kawajiri to make something a little different.
tl;dr: If you want more cool stuff from MAPPA, please Paypal Maruyama lots of money!
Nice use of lemon. Anyway, they make Aominecchi way more intense than all of the other Generation of Miracles, or rather, everyone in this anime pales in comparison to American's if he was truly inspired and learned all his skills from those in America.
its hard to describe how he appeared during every scene, just that it made Seirin seem so weak. Its intense if youre causing players to fall and even worst have to have three people block your shot
and still fail due to the utterly mindblowing behind the post shot, lol, wow
. Hopefully Kurokocchi gets put on soon and stops Aominecchi so we can end his reign. I also just realized that if they are really progressing in order of strength then Kise must now be amazing since theyve yet to face him again, which is great.

I don't think that argument really holds water. Videogames are released as a single, stand-alone product (or at least they were) and they represent several years of work in one package. They're one off's.
Television shows are long running and may be made over a number of years by a wide variety of people. The creative forces behind the work including the director, the writers and the actors may all change over the course of the creation and airing of the show. They aren't one neat, unified product that you can wrap up in a neat little package (although you can certainly purchase them like that). Just to give one example, many people about The Simpsons seasons 2-8 when they are referring to the show because that's when it was still good, rather than The Simpsons as a whole product.
A little bit disappointing about having to wait for the third movie for that, as I was hoping to see it in the second one given how much I liked reading about it in the manga.
Finally caving and it seems like I should have sooner. I adore the light fantasy setting and aesthetic (beyond the animal ears & tails!) and this just seems so lighthearted and cute. Bait & switch with the war was damn funny.
Awesome pose. Continuing the three episode trend, Silica-chan is one of the worst characters thus far.
How in the world do you let your "pet" die, thats like horrible and clear sign of weakness. She couldnt even defeat the normal enemies in one hit.
I hope there are better characters introduced in the future, as all she really provided was allowing us to see a more warming and touching side of Kirito, which I should be somewhat thankful for. But Kirito was just plain epic this episode. Lvl

with all that stuff, one hit knockouts of normal enemies
advanced hearing skills, detecting hidden enemies and auto regeneration with 14k HP
taking hits like they arent even anything, hes close to being in the top five protagonist of the year tier.We need more episodes like this focusing on him and his skills.
