Frieza never joins up.

Watching the movie does give you an abridged sense of how fucking insane Utena/Ikuhara is so that's a good option if you cant watch the full series.

I hit a wall after about 3 episodes of the Black Rose Saga. The Evangelion Symbolism* wasn't doing anything for me and I was bored shitless by the repetition. I think it was i-d who told me to just skip to the last 4 episodes to watch the final arc and be done with it. I might end up doing that one day just to say I finished that goddamned show.

*
Evangelion Symbolism (n): Symbolism inserted because it looks cool, not because it particularly means anything.

A lot of the symbolism may seem random, but pretty much every time I've given a symbol some thought, I've realized it has some significance. It may not be incredibly profound, but it always provides another layer of meaning.

I can't think of any faux-symbolism in Utena on the level of Evangelion's Christian iconography.

Sometimes it doesn't take very much to convince me. I'm kind of interested now!

*adds to theoretical backlog in no particular order but probably not any time soon*
One day, I will watch every noitaminA show... except
Guilty Crown
.

Surely the best "shoujo-action show" is Simoun, which I don't believe you have seen.
Naw, because the lesbian
incest
stuff is kind of silly. Unless lesbian
incest
is a shoujo trope that I'm not aware of. lol

It's kind of weird seeing an anime pervert in 3d. Especially since it's not as stupidly pervy as the male gaze shots that you usually find in anime. It's like... PG-13 perviness (which is an oxymoron, come to think of it). lol
I was immediately reminded of that one scene in MGS4 where Snake pervs out on whatshername's legs anyway. lol

And hey, we've had so many fist bumps... it's time for some 3d pinky swears!

hosannainexcelsis is back! Please don't leave :(

I personally enjoy reading your posts. Waifu wars are fine but I also like it when someone looks at the more technical aspects of shows too.

Don't worry; as frustrated as I get with this place, there's enough good here to keep me coming back. In the end, I have things I want to say about the anime I watch and since I don't feel like making a blog that no one will read, this is the best place to say those things.

Only one update worth noting on the Spring 2012 Temporal Sales rankings:

20,524 *4 Kuroko no Basuke [DVD+BD]: 2012/07/27

Kuroko has successfully passed the 20k first volume barrier.

What does the average anime sell? The way the anime is going I think they are planning a second season (they could do a whole season based on the Winter Cup alone).

I haven't come across any shoujo manga with that particular trope. Unless I'm reading the wrong (right?) kind of shoujo manga.
Well, it IS Japan...

I think it's proof that girls can like the equivalent of Infinite Stratos and like having long winded debates about husbandos slash-pairings with each other on message boards. lol
(I like how Aomine x Kuroko is a thing. I suppose Anyone x Kuroko works because he's so short!)

Voices of a Distant Star

Suddenly, mecha.

This was a lovely little tale of distance and separation that made neat use of time dilation and took advantage of the time delay in communication over great distances as the main pair's communication gradually took longer to reach one another as the story progressed. I wasn't quite into it initially but it grew on me and I was fully invested by the end.

It has some flaws though such as early CG usage, some weird faces of the characters, and apparently the main girl pilots her mech in a school uniform although I think that and the antiquated cellphone featured in this were more deliberate decisions to portray her as sort of lost in time.

Average sales would be ~4000-5000; anything above 10,000 is really good. Kuroko's Basketball is a huge hit and a second season is pretty much a given.

While Voices is impressive for a one-man production, the limits of that do show in the roughness of its character visuals and animation. Later Shinkai productions look much better.

-Klondike is actually real.
-Mizerka and Doubt are a couple?
-Nonaha shown with her hair down only when it involved freecell? Sweet I can almost smell a NTR!

Actual plot development and sudden reveals? My mind can't take it!

Ah, that was just him? I can respect that. Something about one man labors of love leave me feeling much more forgiving.

Who doesn't like Time Dilation porn? It's a nice science fiction trope anyway and is basically the science fiction equivalent of the WW1/2 letters to a love at home type story.

I like plenty of good things. K-On certainly isn't one of them.
Well, clearly you don't like good things!

Speaking of which, did they finally start airing the series on TV?

Oreki pretty much solves the mystery.
He
blackmails the culprit into buying up a bunch of Hyouka anthologies in exchange for not revealing his identity.
Chitanda's little radio plea gains the club some interest and the anthologies sell out. Mostly.
Chitanda really needs to respect people's space.
And so ends the festival arc. It's been fun!
Where the fuck is Misaki? I want to see more Misaki!

Welp, the full mystery brainstorm has arrived.
Thankfully, the case on a whole flows well with the rest of the festival. It also displayed some character insight in a fashion that kept my attention.

We're supposed to recommend good shows though.

Someone hold me back.

Utena 1

what in the fuck

Enjoy~

I need to finish Utena so icarus will be my nakama

So is this the thread where I could ask for anime recommendations? This may sound weird, but I was looking at Evangelion at the exchanges between Misato and Ritsuko thinking, "Yeah, I could watch a show like that." :p

Basically, after watching Nazo no Kanojo, I'm growing bored of High School anime. Sometimes, it seems like the only thing that's ever made. I'd like to see an anime that

1) doesn't take place in a High School
2) preferably centered around college age people and older
3) set in the present day (i.e. not feudal Japan or a robot/cyborg-heavy future)
4) has at least a little comedy in it.

I guess in a way an anime similar to many American sitcoms. lol.

I see wonzo already mentioned it, but it needs to be said again: Moyashimon!
