it's that girl form the first ep, wondering when she would show up again, I don't think i like or care about her character at all.

Gintama is at it's worst when it's trying to do another one of it's weekly heartwarming tales, it's neither funny or heartwarming it's just tedious.

I can appreciate that it tries to be imaginative with it's tales at least, in turn avoiding falling into the mediocre anime comedy pit like it's brethrens (sket-dance,highschool boys, binogami ga and many others).

Gintoki & Katsura being forced to work at bar as cross dressing hostess and running into a kid who wants people to see how great his cross dressing dad/mother is, sounds like something that could hold interest for 23mins sadly it doesn't it's all just very b-o-r-i-n-g.

Kind of an interesting twist.
They use more "old fashioned" technology sort of like the modern day equivalent.

The residents controlled by Fractale have some sort of Star Festival, which is actually an upgrade which keeps them brainwashed under Fractale's control.
Rather shockingly they go all Euphinator on the bunch of people "worshipping". Some of the Lost millennium are also killed.

I am sorely tempted to go - I don't care about Berserk but the other three are a different matter (particularly NeraGaku).

Interestingly Wolf Children is only advertised as the "Scottish premiere" - maybe there's an English/Welsh premiere coming up?

(there's also an HD screening of Ninja Scroll and some other stuff, but I'm not so interested in those).

Paranoia Agent 7

The end of Utena would be a hard act for any episode of any show to follow, but I didn't enjoy this episode very much. It started diving hard into paranormal/supernatural stuff, which didn't feel very coherent a lot of the time.

I think I've had a little too much to drink.

Shots of radio equipment. A girl on a swing. A magic show. A shrine hidden somewhere in what looks like a sewer system. People against white backgrounds. All this stuff is part of Maniwa's dreamscape, and while it may be true to the nature of dreams, it's also hard for a viewer to follow.

Maniwa is possessed by the idea of a connection between the victims, even if it's a connection that couldn't possibly apply to a real crime. Ikari, on the other hand, continues to do his best to follow up on his present hypothesis about the Shonen Bat case. Even though Maniwa looks rather desperate and a little crazy in this episode, the way Ikari bullies witnesses to fit his narrative reflects poorly on the police, and reminds me of how Japanese cops can hold suspects for 21 days without a lawyer, and how there's a 99% conviction rate in the Japanese justice system. As especially shown by

the resignations at the end of the episode, and by Ikari ignoring Taeko's attack because she's not in his district, the cops as a whole more interested in clearing their responsibility in the case than they are at finding the true answer.

Maybe this visual symbolism is a little too on the nose.

For some reason, it seems like Maniwa is getting some sort of precognition or message through his dreams, and the magic show (going through walls, being in two places at once) directly parallels what Shonen Bat does at the end of the episode. He's a supernatural force, and I suspect that pirate radio broadcast at the end will cause more chaos in the city. I wonder if the old man actually is Shonen Bat somehow.

I've heard the next episode is fantastic. The preview seems rather unusual.

Paranoia Agent 7

The end of Utena would be a hard act for any episode of any show to follow, but I didn't enjoy this episode very much. It started diving hard into paranormal/supernatural stuff, which didn't feel very coherent a lot of the time.

Paranoia Agent is the point where Kon's preoccupation with blurring the lines between reality and fantasy becomes particularly pronounced and confusing. You'll see what I mean when you reach the ending. It's not as problematic as his later Paprika, but it does go overboard a bit. Thinking about it, when he wants to drive home the message that you shouldn't run away from reality, Kon reveling in the world of dreams and illusions is a bit counter-productive.

Having now seen the show, I can assure you that that is Luffy's normal characterization - if anything, he's normally even more exaggerated (and annoying).

I can't even imagine that.

As uchip said luffy is the lovable idiot like homer simpson, he loves nothing more then to have fun by goofing about and eating any meat he can find, he pulls off the loveable part thanks to having a lot charm, charisma and actually being genuinely funny.

When the chips are down and things get serious near the climax of the arc he knows how to cranck the badass to 11(zoro just has it on at full blast all the time).

I didn't like him at first but he grew on me a lot very quickly.In a medium where all the main character are whiny angst pathetic annoying kids that make you want headbutt your monitor into two or a generic non characters your meant to project yourself on to, then a main character like luffy is a godsend.

There really aren't many good main characters in anime, luffy is easily up there as one of the best.

I don't know if it's just me but I find it hard to hate on a character that manages to make me laugh, it also doesn't hurt his entrance theme is more badass then supermans

Sherlock Holmes? The Great Gatsby?

I haven't read a of the Sherlock books in years, but isn't the conceit that Watson is narrating the life of Sherlock? In that case, the shift of focus makes sense.

She's the reason for the conflict, and like I said, her occupation is in the title. She was also the first character on screen. She plays just as big of a role in all of this as Ichiko does even if her character development will be mostly static until the final 2 or 3 episodes.

Honestly, to bring in Gintama again, she feels like Katsura or one of the Shinsegumi guys. At best, she's the Shinpachi of the show (defined completely by her bandaged hand in this case ).

Sure, but it's easy shorthand in certain cases.

No, I don't think it's sexist at all to dislike Ichiko. I mean, how is she a likable character in any way? She's awful, incredibly selfish, and the basic concept of the series seems to be about how she's wrong but stubborn, and will never accept reality. So no, I don't know that you're actually supposed to like her; if you are, it certainly doesn't work for me either. But I don't think you are. She's not a good person. The show hammers this home over and over and over... it's quite clear she's an unbelievably selfish, not very likeable person who hurts the people around her and only barely cares.

It's just weird, because they try so hard to justify her behaviour, but she goes back to instantly unlikeable at the end of each arc. It was funny the first time, because the joke's on the audience. But it's getting on my nerves.

I should probably try watching this show.

It's... really like a medieval Japanese romcom. So it depends on whether or not that appeals to you. lol

Hei is a very conflicting figure in the hobo community.

Also, Ichiko is a douchebagel, but that's what makes her so amusing. If she were a better person, then she'd probably be the worst thing of all: boring. Like Keita.

It's weird when a show just goes for it, but is so cheap. As you can see, they tried to do their own version of the "toothbrush" scene, but it might as well have been a series of stills with the voice actress doing her best to fake an orgasm on a microphone.

Also, it only took him 7 episodes to figure out that he could use DNA tests. lol

I think the only reason I remotely enjoy this show is that this is as close to a teacher arc in Amagami SS as I'll probably get. lol
I don't get why they even bothered trying to provide backstory for the characters, when it's just haremshit.

Her bandaged hand isn't even brought up that much. I would say she's defined by her entire design, her occupation, and her deadpan humor that sometimes drifts into over the top humor. Shinpachi has none of that because he's a boring no-character.

And I really don't know how you can defend Gintama in this aspect when it's arguably worse about character development resets.
