I liked when they went into the routine of the school/daily life stuff with the occasional Festum fights. Though many good moments with just the remaining characters as well as the
. I think the tone of the episodes really had me completely unprepared and shocked by the final arc.
Good for drama and such.
Ending:
Characters I liked were Soushi and Kazuki, Kenji Kondo
, Mamoro, and Koyo. Maya was way overpowered though.
. Best mecha was the Mark Sein and Mark Nicht.
All in all glad I went out on a limb and bought Fafner, perfect awesome anime with lots of what I like also some funny sounding awkward terminology, like going into Valkyrie's Coagula always sounds awkward, and one can never forget "Are you there?". 10/10.

So many character deatchs, Soushi's capture and just everything falling apart. That was just plain intense at how many characters died and in their ways but the ones fighting in the Fafner as well as just the support staff. Its been awhile since Ive seen all these deaths in an episode

I didn't expect much from Lagrange either, I just find the character motivation and background shenanigans involving the two planets to be incredibly dull and underdeveloped, or rather, poorly developed. Shit's boring.

See like all the points you bring up, I honestly don't even care enough to scrutinize it while I watch it to even care. But yet again, I just find I enjoy watching any show like, 500% more when I just let it go and watch.
That doesn't mean I don't ever look at things critically, but I try to keep that out of my enjoyment, and save that attitude for when I look back on shows when they're done, because if I didn't, I think I would probably hate every single show I watched. I recently started to try and make an MAL profile, and found I ranked nearly everything with a 6 and below for what I managed to get through so far.
I didn't do this with a show like Hyouka for instance, so I found it to be a really hard show to enjoy while I watched it.

scene may be the most epic non-Hells Angels thing I've seen all year. That shit gave me chills.
The 2nd half was cool too for furthering the lore and rules of Brain Burst while giving some alright character development. It also treated us to:

As a whole, I thought this show was great. I love the concept of the Accelerated World. At its base, it may not be the most original setting ever, but the execution just felt very fresh. And I love how it's treated by the other characters. Some pretty much consider it their life, which is understandable when they're spending months, or even years in it at a time while the rest of the world progresses at most a few hours. Makes you wonder just how old some of these characters are mentally.
I liked the real world portions too. Haru is an endearing blob that's also fresh as hell for an action series (or any kind of anime really). Yeah, there were some points where his actions were questionable, but in the end, I found him to be pretty sympathetic. Same with the other characters for the most part, though again, there were a few questionable actions that shattered the suspension of disbelief. I do however think Nomi is a great villain just because of how hateable he is.
And of course, the star of the show; the action! Can't really complain about it at all. Ranging from elemental battles to strategic shounen battles to straight up power tug o wars, it had everything and was pulled off very well. I still think Haru and Taku's first fight against Nomi is the best in the show, but others were cool too and sometimes visually insane.
So yeah, great show and potential top 10 candidate for the year. Hopefully a season 2 isn't too far off.

I actually really like the Robot Carnival segments themselves - they don't have much substance but they're silly and fun and I really like the designs. On the whole I will agree that there are far better compilation pieces.
SAO and AW are ongoing novels. There's already enough material for both shows to have another full 2-cour season each, and by then, he will probably have written enough for yet another season for both shows.
May it never end.

So I just discovered that the original author for the Btooom! manga is the guy who's done the art for a good number of Cave's games and has been around in arcade development since the Toaplan days/was with Cave from basically the beginning.
