[Cowboy Bebop] - References
For the most part Cowboy Bebop references materials that aren't anime e.g. Cowboy flicks, jazz music, Chinese gangster films etc* but some times it has straight up call outs to previous anime titles. One major one that I had never considered until just now is to the 1985 series Dirty Pair, also produced by Studio Sunrise.
Now, Dirty Pair and Cowboy Bebop share a few basic story similarities. Both shows are about characters in a sci-fi setting who go off on a variety of wacky adventures, with their own ship and pet animal, who generally end up either messing up or performing their given task rather poorly.
I hadn't made the connection until now because both shows are also fairly different from each other, they both look very different, are set in very different sci-fi futures, the characterisation is handled differently and of course Cowboy Bebop has a serious through-plot that's tied into the main character's past. Yet, as serious as Bebop is at time's it's can also be very silly. As I watching episode 2's bounty, Hakim, punch out a groom at a wedding just so that he could steal their 'Just Married' car I suddenly reminded of the kind of nonsense which would happen in Dirty Pair. Indeed, both shows actually have an episode which involves the main characters catching a genetically engineered animal:
Both shows feature an episode where the characters enter a casino and end up with a very important chip:
There's even a few visual similarities:
So while the shows are very different and the episodes themselves aren't particularly similar I can feel vague echoes of Dirty Pair in some elements of Cowboy Bebop, specifically in terms of the tone of the humour.
*For more information on these kinds references please see ghostlightining's excellent series on Cowboy Bebop here. It's really good.
Just been on a little hiking-ish walk with family. This seemed just about relevant enough to post here because there were horses, and the first thing those made me think of was Silver Spoon.
Also, I found myself musing that the Silver Spoon characters would probably be able to tell me why this horse was wearing some kind of strange outfit:
Oh, and getting out into the English countryside made me almost feel like I was in the idyllic England depicted in Kin'iro Mosaic. It also gave me the perfect opportunity to try out the Panorama feature on my iPod touch:
Whoever said the 3D world has nothing to offer?
Kiniro Mosiac 5
This episode gives attention more to Yoko, the character who seems to be the big sister of the group, on top of Isami having a sister complex (and probably favors Yoko more if the ending means anything.) They're becoming more aware that Aya is consisted of 90% Yoko (it's true!) and that Yoko either only consists of comedic retorts, or at least is 50% kindness.
Shino and Yoko's relationship was fleshed out, and gets played through the episode.
Still a feel good show thankfully.
Day Break Illusion Episode 5 Ah, Money, Money! How Many Sad Things Must Occur in This World Due to Money?
Every since entering the cast (he has good design), things have just gone up and up in terms of episode and entertainment quality, while for the characters I cant help but feel as if things may collapse soon.Striking Honda and eventually getting close to Ginka's father was abit too close to home and her statement at the end almost feels as if something may come to pass. I still cant help shake the feeling that Luna or someone will die but how it hasnt happened in the first five episode is a bit surprising. Minor thing, I didnt know normal humans could use the cards like that.
Yeah I don't get it. I mean it's even the one suggested in that 2ch translated comic.Kiniro Mosiac had the least Yuri potential?

Araragi gets all the supernaturals.
Its a show with little girls in it. didnt think it would go that direction.
I have no problem with it doing that just didnt expect it.

I don't know, I mean Card Captor Sakura has some yuri potential, but then again, everyone is a sexual deviantin that universe. That and there was the timeskip towards highschool near the end.artist
/xx/ even reposted it a few posts ago. tsk tsk!I don't think I ever saw that one, but the first episode itself gave that feeling off since it was about the budding friendship of a westaboo and an english girl, which is enough to get the Yuri train rolling.
/xx/ even reposted it a few posts ago. tsk tsk!
But yeah it was pretty darn obvious.

That looks like a PS3 controller. That's the thing I most disagree with in their analysis.

You should give URA some credit (normally Frontwing's visual director)! The letter scene was incredible.
It is.
Yeah that...is what you would call overanalysis...
Does anyone in Japan even own an Xbox?
That's the joke?
No lights...wired...PS2 controller not PS3.
We need more insightful analysis in this thread.
Jexhius? Would you do us the honor?
The few dozen people who still play SHMUPS
No lights...wired...PS2 controller not PS3.
Only on one of them.Definitely DS3 triggers.
Only on one of them.
The far controller doesn't. idc. bad art.No they both do. Its probably just a generic Playstation controller anyway. Those triggers are the fucking worst. Shows sony doesnt know wtf they are doing. But they do that a lot anyway.
It has Shirashi Ryoko voicing a female character which is always a noteworthy mention! Aside from that, I got tired about 4 episodes into it so I've no idea. Everyone appeared to want Not-Lelouch's dick though. They were always bad. I dont really see the appeal of that particular show that makes it hugely popular but w/e.
Sugita and Nakamura from Tokyo Encounter maybe?Does anyone in Japan even own an Xbox?
That's how they played Left 4 Dead anyway.Sugita and Nakamura from Tokyo Encounter maybe?
