Hyouka (Dub), Completed - Finished up Funimation's dub of Hyouka tonight. I understand this series is apparently the "cult" series of the KyoAni lineup. I thought it was a fairly solid Slice of Life mystery series. My favorite arc probably had to do with the Film mystery in the first half. The latter half of the series kind of meandered after the school Festival. Funimation's dub was pretty good all around but I didn't quite like the actress they cast to play Chitanda, Madeleine Morris. She sounded pretty flat. Weird thing is she's done a normal voice in Funimation's other dubs so I'm just going to assume it was a off-decision with the direction. I'd say it's worth a watch though.

I am working on gosick and that one is next on my list.

I am working on a mystery story so some decent mystery anime seem like a good way to get in the right frame of mind :p

Totally forgot I left off right before actual bad guys show up. That turned dark kinda quick too!

That's actually not too far off, when you really think about it.

There's really only a handful of truly great mecha shows that came out since TTGL.

Gundam Build Fighters
Danball Senki
Shin Mazinger Z

I'm sure there are other...okay ones but ever since TTGL mecha shows have ranged from meh to downright insufferable.

Eh. I enjoyed a lot mecha show like IBO, Origin and Thunderbolt and all of those are quite recent too.

For older one, Break Blade movie is also damn good.^_^ (Sad it dont follow mango though)

Fruits Basket ep.3-4

Still introducing new zodiac characters, which I assume will continue for a bit, but at least they are giving back stary and character info in the process, which is helping establish them.

You have to know that they only adapted a few volumes, so you're getting an anime original ending.

I watched fafner in the Azure before, but it didn&t feel remarkable at all to me, unfortunately.
Which is why I said Fafner Exodus :p

General consensus is that the first half of the first season of Fafner is bad, it gets better after the shift in writer in the second half and everything after is a tremendous improvement in both visuals and writing.

Lmao, I just found this post from duckroll.

Soukyuu no Fafner: Dead Aggressor: Exodus - Episode 14-15

Mother of God, this is the mecha Fate/Zero. The composite. The backgrounds. The colors. Even the character art. The action. Omg. HOW did Xebec get this good?!

After these two episodes, I'm definitely recommending this series to everyone I can. Wait. But. They have to watch Fafner TV first. Fuck. Nooooooooooooooo.

Atrghaghaghaigfbhaognhviagapigjiajiajriaja. SO GOOD. SEND HELP.
Very accurate.

Also I just saw it was actually AOTY 2015 and not 16 :D

Pretty much. Even if the original "gets better" after the midpoint, it's still mostly from bad to average, with a few highs. But watching it lets you get to Right of Left, Heaven and Earth, and Exodus, which were all really definitely really good.

Yeah the problem is really that the original Fafner never gets GOOD. It's really hard to recommend the starting point because it's simply untrue that it ever "gets good". It just goes from "damn this is bad and kinda lame" to "okay this is a pretty average mecha show for that era but at least it isn't pissing on itself every episode now". I didn't even dig Right of Left that much.

So we've had Otaku's first girlfriends be gals and shobtiches so far, what else can they be?

That question reminds me of another I had answered recently. It was where isekai goes next...then today someone mentioned a new series they are reading where a whole Japanese island is summoned to another world :)

BGBW

Maturity, bitches.
With that being said, is BGBW doing the OT this time around?

Well, when I called it, a certain show hadn't been delayed yet, so my plan for the OT went out the window (well, more put to one side and being saved for the Winter OT), but since I'm a man of my word, I'm still doing the Autumn thread.

Just don't expect anything too imaginative.

i think i mentioned this before but i imagined an isekai where basically chunks of civilisations from across history get portalled to this other world.

Then you get shit like muslim elves and orcish crusaders fighting socialist dwarves who are trying to take down magi-capitalism

The official announcement for My Hero Academia S3 is out but it's a magazine scan so can't post it.

So yesterday's non official confirmation confirmed.

Well, alrighty then.

Let us know if you need anything to make it easier. Season starts Monday, right?

what's everyone been watching this past season?

Knight Magic
Kakegurui
Made in Abyss
Youkoso
Is there anything I should be watching?

Love & Lies
Aho Girl
Tsurezure Children

Sakura Quest 25 - End

I like shows that have conclusive endings. While not as good as Shirbako, the middle arc of SQ seemed to kinda drag it definitely got better towards the end. Guessing no one else watched this through to the end huh?

Where did Yoshino end up working at the end, didn't look like the original hometown or was it? The sendoff scene reminded me of the end of Persona 4.

Nogi Wakaba is a Hero

what in the fuck

This shit makes Madoka Magica look tame and lighthearted by comparison.

Why didn’t this get a movie or TV series?

This is pretty much required reading for Yuki Yuna Season 2.

A couple people here watched it to the end. I also wrote a review with my wife for it. Was pretty glowing overall about it. Reddit had some people pretty crazy for it too.

Also
it looked like she moved onto trying to revive another town. She discovered her calling was this kind of work.

I dropped it around 10. Probably before that even. Love the character designs, but damn did it get boring.

There's also a bunch of episodes of other stuff that I've probably dropped at this point but nothing in particular that springs to mind.

I'm slowly watching my way through it. Not as good as Shirobako, but I'm really enjoying all of the "I'm a young adult and I don't know what to do" problems that the show brings up.

Ah gotcha, I know it ended last week so I'm probably late to the impressions.

Yeah I agree, mid-way I dropped interest a bit but the last 5 or so episodes are really redeeming and worth it IMO.

Made in Abyss - Finale

Probably among the strongest, if not actually strongest, direction for this show yet. (edit: Fairly certain it really had the best direction by a good margin.) The episode mostly hit its tone perfectly, which is almost to a detriment because some of the content was truly sickening.
Not too unsurprising by now the author of Made in Abyss pushes children into some truly terrifying horror scenarios. Eternal, tortured life? Check!
It wouldn't be wrong to call the content extremely edgy but, again, the direction made it feel rather legit sickening.

Unfortunately that 'onsen' scene happened and I almost tore my hair out. Way too kinda ruin a damn strong episode after all.

Thankfully it then ended on a really strong note.

Made in Abyss END

Oh, my, goodness.... Just damn.. That was actually really well done (except the stupid bath scene) I mean, we finally got a full explanation of Nanachi & Mitty and.... my God.
The music and ambiance were amazing to go along with everything happening. Gonna miss this show....

We still won't see a second season after all this?

Made in Abyss 13

Lesson learned. Never trust masked men with grand ambitions involving children. Nasty guy as could be guessed. Reg and Nanachi did the right thing giving her a mercy kill. A fairly uplifting ending considering what came before.

Pretty good overall. There were some points where the pace could have been improved a bit, but it's nothing deal breaking. The way kids were treated could get very uncomfortable, for good and bad. I don't think the violence became gratuitous, but it came close to the line at points. Great setting overall that carried the show. The characters, while dumb at times, were generally fun to watch. I'd probably watch a second season to see the secrets of the abyss.
