My first level is up. It's one medium-difficulty, "in the style of normal Mario" level.

I try to have the emergent gameplay thing going on w/ a variety of different ways of tackling the obstacles. Not every block is placed in the perfect position, for sure, but it's something I enjoy replaying anyway. All you Mario design guys should try it out.

I was able to complete most of those stages actually so I'm pretty happy about that ! Hope you guys enjoyed the stream and I cannot wait to play more stages probably tomorrow :) There are a couple of stages that I have yet to get to this time because of the amount of stages submitted is overwhelming, haha. Seems like my mic audio was a little lower than what I'd like. So I'm going to adjust for that next time. Hope you guys could hear properly.

Really sorry to see that German cannot join in on the Youtube live stream :( Maybe I should consider playing on Twitch next time but I expect that the chat will go even crazier since I have not set up any mod bot or anything on that. Nice stream! You were able to get through a number of tough levels. Had to go before the end, but I see that you got through B-Bech's level. I need to go through that list of levels. There are a few I haven't seen yet. I haven't watched anyone stream SMM on Twitch yet. Twitch eats through a lot more bandwidth than Youtube does. Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm not always able to turn down the video quality in Twitch, so I usually don't bother with it.

Cleared it in one go. Needs some direction and polish.

In particular getting the vine to go in the subworld and flying over the HELP the goomba house.There are some fun ideas in it, more people would enjoy it if you dropped a few enemies and use coins to guide them better. Use the screen to your advantage, so players know what is coming and improve the general flow.

The stage is not hard, but there is a lot going on with enemies, ice, spikes and flying making it harder than it should be.

This is basically the equivalent of a Castle level. I don't think it's particularly harder than the previous one, but the completion rate is basically zero (the only one who finished it was my brother).

I'm planning to make more World Tour "worlds", but I guess I might need to reconsider the difficulty due to how low the completion rate is.


Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon


I had the Fire Emblem Amiibo, so I quickly unlocked the Marth Mystery Costume and wanted to make something with it. In a way, these stages probably have many sins for Mario levels though. They aren't really focused on platforming, but just defeating enemies or getting through them alive. There are many Mystery Mushrooms in these stages not only to keep the Marth costume up, but also to avoid frustrating players with late deaths.

This is an adaptation of the first actual chapter from FE1, so the first actual chapter in Shadow Dragon, not the prologues. You mostly move from right to left, rather than the standard order, in order to reference the direction where you move in the original game. Most enemies are Hammer brothers, so it might be very hard if you don't know how to deal with them, but there's a fair distance from each other, so it can be a very easy stage too.

OK, so I've had a great idea for a stage. It's a simple one-screen stage but, well, it's going to be hectic. I need to work out the timing and animations of each object involved. It's probably going to be my most devious stage to date, but it WILL be possible to complete. I'll share the ID once I'm done.

When you get a notice that items will be delivered tomorrow, if you place something like 1000 items, you get your delivery early.

The easiest way to do this is to grab a block and make a big square with it.

Hold down the shoulder button to do a multigrab, and grab the giant square. Then hold down the trigger to copy that square and place it near by. Do this 6 or 7 times and you'll likely hit that 1000 item limit.

You also have to use every item that has a (!) next to it at least once.

Or just grab todays delivery, exit the game, change the date on the system to the next days date and set the clock forward an hour, start the game up, grab the delivery, and repeat.

Just got the game today and I got a quick question: Is it possible to create a stage where you start out as an Amiibo or do I need to hide it in a block at the start of a level?

You can also select the mushroom and place it above Mario at the start (so no you can't start as a different character)

1 - What's the point in the Helmet besides taking a seemingly unavoidable hit when entering those sections? It feels like the helmet could be taken away if you avoided those scenarios better. It would make the level more difficult, but not by much.

2 - I feel like, aesthetically, it'd make more sense to have the Train not appear on rails, but vertical instead of horizontal, and having a platforming leading to a pipe, since I'm guessing you're going for a Space theme.

Thanks for playing the stage! I'll answer your questions.

The helmet is just for aesthetic purposes, and to be able to take an extra hit, it's meant to look like a space helmet. There aren't any unavoidable hazards on the stage, so you can totally play the whole stage with the helmet on!

I don't like overly difficult stages, so it's there for accessibility and aesthetics.

Also, we'll agree to disagree on your second question. The train isn't on rails, it's just connected to the other carts. Unless you're talking about the pseudo-space ship you take into space, the rails there are just the flight pattern for the pilot. At the end of the level, you see that the ship crashed into Mushroom Kingdom, and there aren't any rails there.

Thematically, I prefer how I did it, but I can see why you would suggest that as well. Perhaps when I build another space themed level in the future, I'll make a bigger ship with more of a grand entrance!

Without spoiling it for others (unless in tagged spoilers), how tricky did you find it? Was reaching the goal a pain for you? Do you think a level like that could work on a larger scale?

I tried like six seven times before I could finish, but I knew after the first time what to do :).
Not sure if it would work on a larger scale, if I would get stuck in another part I'm not sure if I woulld try again. Maybe if a next part is a bit easier?

Thanks for playing my level A Mario Between Worlds, it was very interesting seeing someone tackle it without knowing what was coming. I had no idea that long drop down was such a shitty troll, I guess I knew I had to hold left and didn't consider other people wouldn't! The second hidden mushroom is also bad for knocking you into the koopa, but only on the way back, which I never considered because I knew it was there and would get it on the first pass. I'm surprised by how difficult the overall puzzle of the level was too, I guess you just can't be your own play tester!

Beautiful work with the puzzle mechanics and thematic aesthetics again! I didn't get the back tracking part at first and thus ran out of time, thanks good guy checkpoint system for your help.
Only a bit too easy for my taste, but as we know it's probably better this way than the other.

I used comments to help people without being too spoilery. I considered putting a comment about needing a POW block where you're supposed to use it but I thought the one behind the big dry bones was clue enough. Do you think I should put that comment? Or maybe a set of "Top Floor" "Bottom Floor" comments to drive home the idea that you take the elevator to the top then the stairs back down to the bottom...

I tried making my levels more challenging, but without an incentive to complete levels players are quick to give up. It's too bad we can string together levels so that you have to beat one to play the next. That way players have more reason to beat them.

Both are great levels.

The bob-omb level is very clever. Just a tiny thing: In the part with the boos, it would be nicer to have the upper pipe further down, because of the movement of the airship levels you don't see exactly where you jump, and you have to jump on flying enemies while there are other flying enemies.
It's not a big problem if you know the level and move there fast, but if the boos follow you, it's hard.

So, people should avoid putting important stuff in the highest of lowest tiles of an airship level.

After taking the elevator up from Color-Coded Caverns Mario finds himself at the base of a tall tower. Mario must ascend and descend and ascend the tower, dealing with its bob-omb happy dry bones inhabitants to reach the exit at the top.

This Yoshi-powered bob-omb machine is rather puzzling. Perhaps the yoshis can help.

And this level features a different kind of checkpoint from the last one I used. I modified it from a design I saw on Reddit. Hit the 3 correct ? blocks and then the p-switch and the way will open. Any wrong blocks will seal the path.

Totally unrealistic, the police box was bigger inside than outside, WTF?
Great ideas, the references are easy to get. Had to check in the editor where those sounds in the Tardis came from. And the Weeping Angels were obvious of course, I already wanted to make level with them myself.

So!

just today alone i streamed about 40 levels, and probably close to 100 the past few days!

I enjoyed almost every level submitted from here. there were some submissions not from here and they were troll levels and the like. but overall the good out weighed the bad

but i think one of my most favorite levels so far is not from here. the one where you played as peach "dont wait for mario, peach"

that level had EVERYTHING and i loved it

anyways i need to take a break and eat as well. also i might need to take a day or 2 break from streaming because i am noticing i am getting some levels re submitted to me again.

unless you guys have brand new levels for me to check out?
