unfortunately I really need the properties of the koopa shell. I can't have people accidentally "riding" the beetle shells.
Well, Bowser Jr. in a clown car throws a shell left and right. But that would take up a lot of space, and you could only use it three times. Hmm.

The only way to do it is to place Bowser Jr in a clown car.

If regular buzzy beetle shells will work for your needs (not the helmet), you can get those to spin by placing them on a ceiling. They will start spinning when Mario gets near under them. Unlike the helmet you can stop them by jumping on them like koopa shells. The only real difference is they are immune to fire.

Made my first attempt at a vertical level that also happened to be my first level to get a bunch of stars organically without having to pimp it online. But now it's time to pimp it online! It's a very Nintendo-esque tricky platforming level with no weird gimmicks besides the fact you're going up instead of right. Hope you guys like it!

Thank you!! I think I'm going to return to this theme in the future, and really fine craft it! There were a lot of ideas left over, and I feel like I can totally knock it out of the park with some more experience.

I was looking forward to your feedback, and I understand your sentiments. I feel like maybe the stage was too ambitious for my current level of experience. It's the only stage, where I feel like you can clearly tell I was reaching the limits of the stage creator.

I need to give it another shot in the future with a more streamlined design! Look forward to that! Thanks for your feedback, as always. :)

It's very polished now! Quite proud of it!

I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but I think I preferred the previous version of it better. Getting the Spiny Helmet in the last version was like a defining moment in Mario Maker for me.

This level its inspired/tribute to Donkey Kong Country 2 "target terror" but it has a few different ideas of its own and what i believe to be a pretty different and unique boss fight. It has a learning curve but i trully believe its worth your time.

What I find I love the most about making levels had been to come up with ideas and to have to be resourseful to implement them, and this level has been very satisfying/challenging in that regard, including having to find an elegant solution to avoid frustration and not having players loose to many lives and get that difficulty just right. And the boss, which presented its own set of challenges to make it unique and fun.

Would love some feedback!

I made a couple of tweaks to this level. Just a couple of secrets that require a Metroid style trick to access and a modification to one platforming section. The difficulty is more or less the same.

You guys SERIOUSLY need to start using the "You may also like..." feature. I just played this remarkable stage. It was honestly astronomical in terms of design and attention to detail. Flawless in every sense of the word, from start to finish.

Im just randomly going through the "You may also like..." stages one after another. I started by playing one of my stages and it followed from there, actually—lmao. So start from a GAF stage—preferably a good one—and go from there! I have yet to be disappointed.

This is probably an easier level than 1-1 in smb3. Don't be afraid to add in power ups and different elements just because its am early level. 1-1 in SMB3 has goombas, pirahnas and koopas, introduces the leaf with a flying sectik. and has p switch. If you wanna go world 2-3 you will have to be willing to introduce power up and other gameplay elements. Not aggressively but still they have to be there. This is a mechanically solid level with good object placement and selection though. Good job, just dont be afraid to go a lil more out there for a world 2-3 style stage.

Pretty good. From a pure platformong perspective everything is fine if not a little bland. The level could probably use some organization of thoughts and visual design though. Right now it feels like a binch of individual ideas thrown together into a level. With some more stream lining and introduction of mechanics naturally you would have a serious winner on your hands. Still a solid level though.

I honestly found this frustrating and I did not progress very far before I had had enough. This is the type of level that really needs to introduce concepts and warm the player up as they go. It also needs to not punish the player severely for a mistake. Dor as far as I went getting hit pretty much demanded starting from the beginning. I would not advise going that route. The pirahna plant spitting fire right before the concept was properly introduced and integrated into the players skill set was also not a good idea. The way spanning and costers work it would not tske much to check point this. I wont comment on difficult, I'll just say, my first few runs before I had enough were more frustrating than fun due to difficulty and excessive punishment for making s mistske. I think you need to solve those issues.

Okay, so this is my magnum opus of the puzzle sub-genre. I doubt I'll be able to do better than this. I decided to make a horror themed puzzle stage similar to my Castle Dracula and Day at the Office stages. I basically spent the whole day doing this... It's most likely going to be my hardest stage due to the complexity of the puzzles. I would greatly appreciate some testers for this stage, as I expect to revise this several times before I get it to a fair non-obtuse level of challenge, and even then I'll probably make an additional easy version. If you're looking for a challenge in the Mariovania/puzzle style with a horror theme... please give this a try. After this, I'm going to make laid back stages because making this really taxed my brain.

Oh, and it's inspired by Silent Hill... only it takes place in an abandoned, haunted convent...

Jesus Lord. How did you achieve such a thing? You have some sixth sense about the type of levels people are attracted to.
I can't even begin to dream reaching 300 stars. People just don't star. I despise that system since its related to the number of level you can publish.

100% this, been playing from launch and only have 12 stars. Cannot upload any more levels.

I'm only on 29 stars or so, but my suggestion would be to start playing some GAF levels and providing feedback and hope that others return the favour.

Unfortunately, that seems to be happening much less in this thread as a bunch of people just drop their latest level details and never bother playing anyone else's.

Makes it difficult for anyone's levels to get noticed when they end up three pages back in no time at all.

This thread probably needs to be nuked from orbit and a proper level sharing thread started. Means discussion about the actual game wont get buried either.

I just played a stage that was one screen and only consisted of a spring pushing you into the pole. It has five times as many stars as all my levels combined.

I thought the CoD crowd were annoying, but Mario Maker has the CoD kids beat hands down.

High, finally just said screw it and ran full speed jumping every time my feet hit the ground. That got my to the cannon near the half-way point.


Also, I starred and complete the level but Miiverse isn't showing either. Its showing that you have two stars but when you open the menu it's not showing anyone having beat it and only having been starred by one person... Odd.


Great level, though.

I usually hate water levels, but yours didn't make me want to throw my controller, so it must be ok. I actually started to enjoy it by the end, especially because you didn't do what most people do and just overload it with the fish and octopus enemies.

The 'For Rachel' level had some nice ideas, but was a little too random in the way you put them together. I quite liked the end with the solid platforms with plenty of enemies and the falling ones with less enemies. I like to have choices about how i get through a level.

No not at all. I know what you mean, I liked how it was delivered too. Was hard to get rid of that but in the end it was too random, if you weren't exactly on the small stone, you could get screwed.

Very nice: good idea, good execution, the whole look of the level is good too. The pace and some specific moments made me think it wouldn't be so out of place in a real Mario World game.

There were some neat ideas, but I think it was a bit too "conceptish": I mean, a decent base that lacked all the other elements that complete a level. It was still enjoyable.

Quite a challenging, but very nice level. Very good ideas, it flows pretty well. Maybe the ending is slightly disappointing,
after everyhing I saw in the level, I thought there would have been a last challenge similar to the others

Fun, challenging, with neat concepts. Good job.

Interesting idea for a series of boss battles. The main problem is that you start as small mario so lots of deaths at the first hammer bros. Bowser Jr also feels a bit too easy with all the flying fireflowers. I'm also unsure of how to get past the thwomps besides relying on invincibility frames

DaBoss: Tricky Doors and Pipes
Another ghost house level, also very well designed. That said it sort of seems like a mix of Pipe Maze & Mysterious Mansion, and it didn't seem to distinguish itself from the other 2. I didn't explore all the rooms though and might have missed something.

lol that is an old and shitty level i did when i was still testing things out. I think i should remove some of my older levels as they were more mostly tests and not much thought in them.

but to answer your question, just run with the beetle hat on :)

Trying to make a automatic level, it's really much harder then I expected! Bit annoying that if you want to make/test something at the end of the level that you have to wait a long time if it even works haha.

Creative level, though the difficulty curve really feels off, I agree with Gotdatmoney in that regard.
The beginning was surely the hardest part which took me quite a few lives to understand and proberly pull off, it's all happening very fast:
First you have to accomodate to jumping on the plants, then immediately dodge the fireballs, then suddenly work around the red koopas, while the "train" starts moving downwards, where you can get hit by the single plants sideways... its quite much at almost once. It's a fun but also quite short level after that, which strangely gets easier the farther you make it. The boss fight is kinda cool, but the helmet seems to be overpowered for it. Using only fireballs on the other hand would probably be too tedious, so I'm not sure.

Also a bit overexcessive use of fireworks I think ;P
Gave you a star! If you could "reverse" the difficulty curve (use Gotdatmoneys tips!) and work out a few more ideas for a slightly longer level, we could be holding gold in our hands here ;)
 
Oh man, I think I'm finally happy with my Bowser level. I actually uploaded it but then pulled it back down as I had a couple extra things I thought of that I want to try tomorrow. Exciting!

Creativity vanished again, tried creating something focused on piranha plants and the way that Mario Maker effectively delays their popping up out of pipes compared to the actual games irks the heck out of me, it's the reason I barely use them because elongated staring contests with pipes just in case they hide snapping teeth aren't that grand.

I liked it.
A few fewer bullet bills would have made for trickier jump combos to reach things.

Yep, I made a level with a focus on pipes which was a little too easy because of the long delay.

I liked how each room/challenge felt different, and the possibilities of approaching them in different ways. Fun level!

Nice level, and an interesting concept, making the player go against the usual idea that coins signal the path, while not being trollish or unfair.
