I don't think it's quite the same thing...I don't disbelieve him, but I also have no compelling reason to take his word, either.

Besides, the guy in the GameFAQs thread went to great lengths to prove that he was telling the truth. This guy could've at least mentioned he was a game journalist or something in the first place.

That said, I'll gladly give him plenty of future credibility if this turns out to be true.

I love Super Punch Out, I still play it occasionally, but it doesn't seem especially "hardcore". It's just a cool little bonus. I think GC fans should be more excited about the boxing title coming to the console, because some EA presentation ugliness aside, it's an excellent boxing game. If they made a few adjustments to the sequel it should be one of the best made. I think it's great that they decided to support the platform with it too.

Yeah, at first I saw the title and I thought "Fight Night's on the Cube now?"

We'll yeah, that's the important thing. Though in my case, if I actually bought this game (I refuse to support EA's brand of industry "consolidation") I probably wouldn't even touch the main game. Super Punch Out is one of my all time favorite games. It's almost criminal that we have not seen a sequel or remake in two generations.

I'd buy it if you could beat down some nintendo characters in the main game. They have Mario playable in NBA Street, why not Mario getting some uppercuts in the chin in Fight Night 2 ?
Dream game for all Nintendo haters :D

I have super punch out, I'll probably get this for ps2 version unless XBLive fixes last years online problems.

The controls are just meant for ps2 can't imagine playing it on xb.
The special move buttons would be out of the way.

I have decided to blindly trust this news. It makes sense to me, and I wouldn't be surprised at all.
Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me, either. The mere fact that Fight Night is on the GC all of a sudden supports at least something like this.

Makes sense to me if it is true. Putting Nintendo exclusives for Multi-platform games might make people get the GC version instead or even buy a GC.

What they need to do is release a port of Super Punch-Out!! for the Gameboy Advance. Actually, I could see a DS version. The original arcade game used two screens, as I recall. That would be kind of neat, instead of seeing Little Mac, it'd be entirely first-person. If you want to hit a guy in a certain area, simply touch on the touch screen where you want to punch. Just an idea.

I'd love for this to be true & for this to be Nintendo's way of reintroducing the franchise before they do a proper followup on DS, Cube or Revolution.

I can't help but be skeptical though. :-/

If he is so dam sure about this people should make a bet with him

If he is right people betting should get the “junior member” tag

If he is wrong he should get a MEGA insulting tag!

I will leave it to the most wise mod’s to make anything official!
This is a great idea.

Here are the LTD numbers for each:

Code:
PS2	FIGHT NIGHT 2004 $32,675,485 672,123
XBX	FIGHT NIGHT 2004 $14,918,907 305,916

PS2	KNOCKOUT KINGS 2001 $10,741,167 224,439

PS2	KNOCKOUT KINGS 2002 $13,393,057 355,303
XBX	KNOCKOUT KINGS 2002 $6,198,888 156,844

GCN	KNOCKOUT KINGS 2003 $2,153,030 92,673

KOK 2003 was simply a slightly adjusted version of the 2002 edition which saw release on the other consoles to compensate for the lack of said game on GC.

Well that explains that. :lol :lol

The collective scepticism here bores me. You know the facts, and I'll leave you alone to cry about it at your leisure.

I believes you. Though you should get spanked for breaking an NDA / posting news about your work irresponsibly on a public forum. :)

EA could put the game online if they wanted to. The modem is ready to be used by developers other than Sonic Team. Online for Nintendo's own games is a different matter, though.

Well It would be great if EA showed a little online love to the GC.
I'd get their titles for the small bump up in graphics and to show support to the struggling company that filled my childhood with bliss.

Nice. Super Punch-Out!! is one of my favorite games of all time. I hadn't planned on getting Fight Night Round 2, though. SPO is the last boxing game I've purchased...

He's one of the main guys at Nintendo Official Magazine UK, for crying out loud. Cut the guy some slack! He puts out a good mag! (Makes the official US Nintendo mag look like a joke by comparison.)

He could stand to work on his people skills.

Not quite the same level of fervent opposition but I thought the same thing.

Your man (the poster) hardly went out to cover himself in glory, had nothing to gain, gave us some new (and cool) information, but because he doesn't have proof apparently he's a typical junior member and should be banned. Normally, posters with false information act differently to this guy - i.e. he's just put some stuff out there and doesn't appear preoccupied with who believes him or not.

Hardly encourages people to share information in the future.

Personally, I think there's plenty of blame to go around regarding the Junior Member thing. :P But replace "Junior Member" with "n00b" and you can see how some people would have a problem with it.

The ironing is delicious

And a lot of you need to shut the fuck up about the junior member crap. What were 95% of you about 8 months ago?

Deandotscott-
Sorry about all of this. You have to realize that this board gets its fair share of self-proclaimed video game prophets who baselessly spout the craziest nonsense.

Unlike those IGN and EGM fruitcakes that post here, the original poster of this thread didnt flash his credential like it was something special. "OMG OMG LOOK I WORK AT EGM OMG I AM AN INDUSTRYYYYY INSIIIIDEEEEEEEERU!!! GIVE ME ATTEENNNTION!"

Bah! I don't like it either. If true this tells me that Nintendo will never do another Punch-Out, and that is VERY disappointing.

He should've mentioned all of his qualifications in his first post, or at the very least been a bit more specific (i.e., "I'm a game journo" or something of that sort). Just leaving the topic title as the news and adding some sentence about EA crap is practically begging not to be taken seriously. I would've given the same reaction for any member, junior or otherwise, unless they had a reputation for posting true information.

As I said, he is owed an apology as it appears he's right (and has credentials as well), but he really should've gone about posting the news in a way more conducive to belief.

Nice. So as soon as Eurogamer picks up the news FROM HERE and posts it, that's when people start believing it? This "link?" thing has gone too far.

Exactly. It's hard to believe anyone on a forum unless they have track record or are well known in general. It's uncalled for to be super harsh on him, but at the same time he didn't help himself with his approach. I had no idea who he was.

Well, to be fair, we can't prove Eurogamer got the news from here any more than we can prove they actually did get it from sources close to Nintendo (unless you've got information I don't).

Nonetheless, I don't think the majority of us are treating the news as gospel yet (I'm certainly not). The fact that a (reasonably) large (non-Spong) website would feel confident enough to report it does raise my confidence a bit, though.

I'm not surprised by this, thanks for the scoop deandotscott.

:sigh: whatever it takes to sell cubes I guess.

That is the whole point: some people where harsh too soon. I mean, this is a good example to show just how judgemental some posters are. News+junior memeber+no link and some people just bashed this guy who was contributing to the forum.

What about waiting a bit? If its untrue, then the posters credibility will be harmed, if its true, then the opposite happens.

Anyway, I for once thank the poster for the news. And apologize on behalf of the ones that just attacked him needlessly.

Look I'm sorry that deandotscott is miffed by the bashing he got and I hope he sticks around, but dammit, that is a horrible combination of events that has to be bashed to keep the forum from sinking into a pit of groundless rumours. If this turns out to be true then we everbody who based him gets to eat crow and his stature on the boards grow. If he had explained his situation to start the thread instead of posting a one-liner then the bashing wouldn't have been nearly as bad.
