Not sure about these numbers. Seems pretty meh to me for a game like Smash Bros.
Naw, from top of my head, if you are only using internet for smash (no multitasking). You might only need 5mb down and 2mb up with good ping but I could be wrong. Someone, please correct me if I'm wrong.
My thumb rule for my online gaming is more than 20mb down and 3mb up.

I think for smash, now correct me if i'm wrong, but the most important number is ping, so long as you meat an upload/download threshold.

No. That's to test your connection. The servers' purpose is to just test your connection.
What do you recommend? The official nintendo one isn't on their online store anymore.

Remember that when playing online ping generally matters more than your download speed. It doesn't matter if you can send 100mb/s if it takes 200ms for the data to get there. Hence why satellite connections used to be great for general web usage but worse than dial up for online gaming.
Mine kind of sucks, just tested and it was 44ms. That would probably make for annoying Smash play. That was over wifi though and I'd like to get on LAN again, and get a LAN adapter for the Wii U.

No, you would be using Ninty's servers, not the Speedtest ones. Smash is peer-to-peer anyways and your speeds are more than enough for that. EDIT: Beaten so hard
Add long as your ping is 25 or less, you should have little trouble playing online regardless of your upload/download speed. It might take you longer to load into matches (and I wouldn't recommend downloading the game if your download is low), but you won't have much latency, which is key.
Try speedof.me and see what your ping is. Speedtest is unreliable at times when it comes to that. I've found this works better most of the time.
It'll be the "Latency" number.
What's the recommended? My connection at home has a ping of ~30ms.

Oh good, 21ms to Chicago for me. I think I should be good since that's like 10 hours away.
That one made my work internet look way worse!
16 download, 4 upload, 85ms ping vs last page's 132 Down, 10 Up, 8ms ping

As low as possible. For perspective 16ms is one frame at 60 FPS, so if you're less than that you're looking really good.
2-3 frames is what you and I would be looking at. If you can feel the difference between 60 and 30 FPS it would probably feel similar. Just slightly less responsive.

You know what that means right? Time for a new job!
I can only imagine how bad my home connection is. Just got a new router/modem today, so i'll find out if it's improved. Playing smash was unbearable online.
