Winter in NA also means jan thru March

At first it was marked as Winter 2014, but the site has been updated to say Holiday 2014 for the longest time now.

I have absolute faith. They'll cut characters if they have to (and to be quite honest, they already have. ;_;7 Lucas), but Smash Wii U is this year.

They are not going to bury a WiiU that is clawing out his way out of its coffin due to Mario Kart 8 by leaving it without a big holiday game.

Isn't Smash Wii U currently marked as a winter release anyway?
Yep.
Early sales are REALLY rare in the US, the only places that tend to do it are either small personally-owned game stores or if a department store screws up. And the second basically never happens anymore.

Places get punished really harshly for breaking street date, especially on major games like this. Japan has street dates break a lot more than the US for sure.

Oh ok. Here I know a big electronic supermarket where Nintendo games are always on the shelves 3 days before release.

I hope 3DS players can have all the characters unlocked in the Wii U version, it'd be a bit annoying to have to unlock everything twice.

A new thing that got added to smash 4.

If you hit someone with a meteor attack, they'll shoot downwards and if they hit the ground, instead of just staying there like before they'll be shot back upwards.

The problem is that when the receiving opponent is on the ground, they get launched downwards for a small second before being popped up and they can tech the floor (press R whilst tumbling near the ground and you immediately get up) before actually being knocked up.

Now because meteor smashes generally have quite a long landing lag (Mario's Fair, Link's Dair, Megaman's Dair, DK's Fair and Dair etc), you can hit a grounded player with one of these moves and, if they time it right, they can instantly tech and punish you for successfully attacking them, which is a ridiculous decision if you ask me, because it makes these aerials pretty useless unless they're used off stage.
I think I get it. Although it probably won't be a huge issue for casual players.

But what's a meteor attack/meteor smash? I need to brush up on my vocab :p

Well considering there are like 5 times as many 3ds owned as Wii u owners I'm not sure how big of a deal it is.

It's likely not, but my point is what benefit do they get announcing it before 3DS release vs what benefit do they get by announcing it after 3DS release?

Which one has the higher benefit. In my mind, even if it's marginal, miniscule, tiny, if one has more of a benefit than the other, why not choose that one? To me, it makes more sense to reveal it AFTER day 1 sales of smash 3DS, but that's just me.

Well then, I guess they shouldn't release the 3DS version. That way, hype for the Wii U version doesn't deflate. Because people will think, "I already have Smash why am I gonna buy the Wii U version, it's the same thing right?"

I hope you can see what is wrong with what you said. Lol.

I see that argument, too, so it's a possibility. It could also all be 'Because NCL told us to' and there's nothing more to it than that.

Sends you straight down.

Previously if you hit grounded opponents with them, it would send them straight up without actually doing the implicit bounce.

I don't think so if they really needed Black Friday :/

Isn't the new Pokemon releasing just before Black Friday? Granted, that's for 3DS, not Wii U, but it's not like Nintendo would be left with nothing on Black Friday; they still would have a blockbuster game. I can see them pushing the Wii U back to December, at least in NA/EU.

With the 3ds version looking so good I would be okay with a wii u delay to 2015

On top of the Amiibo figures dropping this November, there's also the fact that...
Delaying this to 2015 would be the equivalent of Nintendo burying the WiiU as it is trying to dig out of its hole.

They'll cut characters if they have to ( ;_;7 Lucas) , but it'll be 2014.

The game is marked for Holiday 2014, they won't miss the timeframe.

Think of them as "spikes" -- they knock an enemy below you straight down very quickly, normally used to KO an opponent who is off the stage.

A friend of mine is an SM for Gamestop, currently at the Expo. He just told me the Smash XLs are to be released on September 17th here.

He also mentioned two new designs, described as "an aboriginal NES controller" and "a Persona Q grimoire".

Not sure what he means by the last bit, ha.

I loved DK 64, Donkey Konga and Donkey Kong Jungle beat, so that's like, your opinion maan.

I had a feeling :) Nice "The Dude" quote, too, btw.

I don't think announcing the Wii U release date will negatively impact 3DS sales at all... first off, it's been known that the Wii U version is coming after the 3DS version since... what, before E3? It's not new news, they're just finalizing a date.

Also, they're different games, people seem to keep forgetting that... I think (but have no evidence to back me up whatsoever) that if MK7 and MK8 both launched within a few months of each other they'd still have made close to the same sales.

Are people seriously still expecting it to be delayed out of this year? It will be out for Black Friday guaranteed.

This is what I'm hoping for... my Birthday is on Thanksgiving this year so getting to go buy Smash that Friday would be pretty amazing...
