Would make sense for Smash release date on Wii U. Its a Friday and these were likely coming out the same day. Good date and before Black Friday.

Well, it's been said a lot that the 3DS and Wii U games mainly share all the same characters and some of the stages, but many (most?) of the stages are exclusive to each other. Both versions will probably mostly have different songs too.
Smash Run is exclusive to the 3DS version, while we don't know yet what the exclusive mode on Wii U will be.

I am aware that both versions have exclusive content and that is fine in my books. I am only against exclusive characters/forcing people to buy both versions.

Of course it will help. The most important part of hyping a Smash game are the characters. Nintendo would be stupid for not holding characters back and use them to hype up SSB4WiiU before its release.

I didn't say it wouldn't help. I am questioning how much it would help.

I was talking about this tonight at work, and thought the 21st would be a good fit until I realized Pokémon is out the same day. Not that it's unprecedented, Super Mario 3D World released the same day as A Link Between Worlds last year, the 22nd. I think it's just wishful thinking on my part that it would drop the 14th.
Either way, hype beyond conceivable levels at this point. Hamayama got me so excited to get my hands on this in 3 WEEKS. Can't wait to see what the Treehouse is up to tomorrow.
