See now this is a great political cartoon. It's seething with symbolism without hitting it over your head.

absentee ballots exist and are completely free so who has an excuse?

If you don't know absentee ballots exist you don't really care about voting.

You can't just decide to vote absentee, there's rules. For example in New York State:

  • Absent from your county or, if a resident of New York City absent from said city, on Election Day.
  • Unable to appear at the polls due to temporary or permanent illness or disability; or because you are the primary care giver of one or more individuals who are ill or physically disabled.
  • A patient or inmate in a Veterans' Administration Hospital.
  • Detained in jail awaiting Grand Jury action or confined in prison after conviction for an offense other than a felony.

I don't see, "At work, can't get out," on the list. So no, you can't just vote absentee. That's not how it works.

Well in FL you can just request it months in advance and they send it to you. That's what I've done since 2010.

It should be made the same everywhere.

well then NY sure loves making voting a living hell for its residents. wow.

yup. I just voted the other day on a ballot issue regarding the Miami Riverwalk area. Filled in a bubble, signed in a couple of places, put it in the mail. Done.

never doing another 2 hour early voting line ever again

GOP establishment now calling out Trump for bigotry and devaluing women. Fucking hilarious, and sad at the same time.

"DNC Chair DWS Joins GOP Attack On Elizabeth Warren's Agency.
Payday lenders get a new ally. Wasserman Schultz is co-sponsoring a new bill that would gut the CFPB's forthcoming payday loan regulations. She's also attempting to gin up Democratic support for the legislation on Capitol Hill, according to a memo obtained by The Huffington Post."

They're not wasting any time. It has begun, the pro bank wing of the DNC is now starting to really turn on the Warren/Sanders wing after lifting the rules on accepting lobbyist money.

You can't have payday loan regulations, that's just wishful thinking and rainbows!

Also, if you hate DWS, support her first ever primary challenger:.

That's true. What Hillary needs is a young hispanic/African American junior senator (or Cabinet Member) from Ohio, Florida, or any swing state, really. Assuming the state has a democratic governor that is. That's ideal of course; I cant think of anyone who fits that profile. 2/3 would be pretty good me thinks.

It will be intresting to see who she chooses if/when she is the nominee.

Honestly I'm not a fan of any of the options that meet the above criteria. In general though, I probably like Tim Kaine the most as VP, who would have the added benefit of securing Virginia (although I think it's going Blue regardless). I'd probably also be alright with Jay Inslee, Sheldon Whitehouse (if only for the hilarious notion of bumper stickers saying 'Clinton Whitehouse'), Deval Patrick, maybe John Hickenlooper (although he's probably too centrist to be palatable to the left wing of the party).

Proof that the blood money runs on both sides, the Dems just hide it better sometimes.

It's hard to wrap my head around that fact they rebuke this and him calling for banning all Muslims from entering the country, then say they will support him should he get the nomination, regardless.

I don't understand this at all. How are you not in conflict? They need to be called out on that.

Debbie is my congresswoman though I refused to vote for her last time out of principle.

I'll gladly support this guy, though I doubt he wins.

Not to mention Trumps just saying what the GOP's been thinking. They must be sweating that someone without a filter is trumping their values.

How would they know though if you are actually out of the state? If you truly have a job or prior commitment that precludes you from voting I think you should be able to vote absentee.

The only reason I think the GOP is so against Trump is because they don't know where he truly stands. Sure he says a lot of shit. But his stance has flip flopped so much you don't know what he'll do or say if he's the President.

Like those facts you couldn't back up last night regarding your claims on campaign finance reform?

What are your opinions on Prop 8?

Huh? Folks can go read the thread themselves to see how it really went down... Not sure how this is a response.

Are you denying that Hillary received money from corporations into her pocket and into her campaign? We can discuss whether that is a problem, whether she was influenced, etc. But those are facts and many people have a problem with that. I think their concerns are valid.

Prop 8?? In California?
I'm not sure how it is relevant but I will bite... just to see what your point it.
Civil rights can't be arbitrarily stripped by popular vote. Laws have to be rational, consistent, and consistent with the constitution . Gay marriage not being legal violated the equal protection clause of the constitution. So I was against prop 8 and it was rightfully overturned eventually.

They're really not in conflict about him being a racist though. They don't like that he's a flip-flopper and possibly still a closet liberal. The whole David Duke thing they're in "conflict" about is him disavowing and not disavowing Duke. Sure, there might some talk of him being improper and all that, but at the core of the conservative discussion is Trump's flip-floppiness. Is he going to ban Muslims or not? Is he going to build the wall or what? Is he really a racist or not?

Yep they're basically scared that he's going to end up being a lot more moderate than he's acting now, risking a swing to the middle for their base that he's hijacked. It's why Cruz is constantly attacking his lack of "conservative values", I.e. he doesn't hate the gays enough

Assholes. Payday companies are some of the must abusive corrupt corporations that pray on poor people. Screw anyone who defends this. Seeing democrats supporting this is so offensive to the name.

Face Heel Face Heel face Heel Face Heel Face Heel

worse than the Big Show brother!

The GOP isn't against Trump because of racism and bigotry, regardless of what they say.

It's because the economic populism he's campaigning on is the very antithesis of what the party has built itself on.

Everyone should have a paid day off on election days.

Period.

You can't just give everyone in the country a day off. Doctors, law enforcement, people need to eat, mechanics, emergency services... it isn't realistic.

Early voting, mail in voting, automatic registration. That is how you help get people to vote. People need to let go of this election holiday nonsense. It doesn't help, and in many cases will hurt.

Yep, if he took the money from Koch brothers, etc they would love him. He's just not beholden to the interests of corporations.

Some of us aren't Dems to begin with, so we aren't pretending. A lot of us are tired of the centrist policies and near constant capitulation and gave up on them. Sanders (who let's not forget isn't a Dem either) running gave us the opportunity to push for him on a national election, so we did.

Don't support Clinton, any of the neoliberals

They gave up on middle Americans

I don't believe Clinton to be a neoliberal. It's looking like Trump, Clinton, or a write in, and I'm not going to under-represent for the Democratic party just because Clinton isn't perfect.

Employees in Texas get time off to vote if they don't get 2 consecutive hours outside their work day. Well, today Texas gets 12 hours today to go vote. That is plenty of time and totally fulfills the 2 hour criteria for the vast, vast majority of voters.

Combine that with the 1.5 weeks of early voting time that more than a million people took advantage of this year and sorry but people who care are able to find the time.

Yea in Missouri it's a 3 hour block for voting but you have to request it a least a day in advance to get it. We don't even get early voting and with absentee voting you have to have a valid reason to use it like being out of town or some other listed reasons

Just move elections to a Saturday like the majority of the world does. Yes many still have to work on weekends but most work Monday through Friday 9-5 jobs

You made a false claim, didn't back up the claim and then moved the goal posts about 5 times finally admitting so.

I'm asking about if you think the religious black vote affected prop 8. Clue: It didn't.

Mail in voting in California is awesome. Used it every time.

You are taking the conversation off topic, but please, do explain, what my false claim was, how the goal posts were moved, and how I admitted my claim was false. I stand by the points made in the other thread. Many on the thread were arguing gotcha semantics instead of focusing on the substance of my points. I dont think clarifying your point is "moving the goalposts". Scoring silly imaginary points on an internet forum is your goal? I like discussion. Happy to discuss anytime. I'm not trying to push any specific agenda nor are my views dogmatic. Did you disagree with me on the substance of my point? If so happy do continue discussing via PM or a more relevant thread.

Did I say the religious black vote affected prop 8 in California??? Where did that even come from???

In Canada we have advance polls open for several days before election day, does the US not have that?

Varies on a state by state basis. Some states will have polls open for 3+ weeks, some less than a week. Oregon for example conducts all voting by mail, so you just mail the ballot back in after you fill it out (you can't even physically vote in person outside of specifically requesting it at a county elections office).

Elections are all done according to individual state law. Presidential elections are actually 50 (yes, I know PR/Guam/DC) individual elections. You'd probably have to amend the US Constitution to do something like that.

Here in Ohio I can vote absentee for whatever reason I like. I can also vote early a few weeks beforehand at a centralized location. Additionally, primaries are open so you just show up and tell the poll worker which ballot you want.
