Yeah, I don't like the sound of that at all. I assume you can go back to improve your interrogation score afterwards?
Eurogamer sez:

You can replay earlier cases to try to improve your rating and see different results, but this is a painfully slow process with many unskippable scenes.

Why do so many developers these days insist on making cutscenes unskippable in subsequent playthroughs?

SO IGN is LOL-worthy most of the time, especially with OSCAR commetns for GTAIV, but become ZOMG PRE-ORDER CANCELED! based on their reviews all of the sudden? I really hope people are joking.

Uhh. I wonder how this will work with the multi-disc 360 version. I have to assume you will need to swap back if you want to play an old case to improve your score.

There's also the bonus case and the whole 1 disc vs. 3 disc issue.
There are a thousand different decision factors you could make, but that's completely besides my point, directly answering a previous post. Stop trying to turn this into a console war fight.

What other basis is there? Is there some co-op or online element that would make me consider 360?
Controller preference, system preference, interface preference, which console you actually own, 1 disc versus 3 discs, DLC, bonus content...

I honestly wasn't. Those three factors are the only differences that we are aware of and I was just trying to give the full answer.

Wow these are great reviews I was starting to get worried about this game for some reason, so glad I preordered the right version PS3.

Those reviews that rate the game below what the hype dictates are totally suspect!
Can't believe site with _reviewer in question_ is still accepted as legit at all!

any guesses when will Amazon put LA-Noire on deal of the day for $39.99 ? I can't afford to spend $60 right now, but really wanna play this game.

You know what's even funnier?

All the people who're actually taking the "preorder cancelled" posters seriously.

for those film noir fans really excited about this, read Adam Sessler's review for G4

http://www.g4tv.com/games/xbox-360/51451/LA-Noire/review/

lots of gushing, a little hyperbole... but the biggest reason you should read it is that he comes off as a HUGE film noir fan and may be a good idea of what other similar minded fans will come away with. Having read some of the reviews so far, they make complaints over the game (slow methodical nature, repetition, etc) that are actually often staples of the genre. He goes on to mention just exactly that.. how a lot of this stuff is the same way that such movies and novels play out..

anyway, forget about the score... just read the review from a film noir buff who was obviously anxiously awaiting this game....

ughhh... why can't amazon have midnight delivery!?!?!?!?!!?!?

Well, now we know.

If you own both a PS3 and an Xbox 360, it's going to be pretty stupid of you to buy the Xbox 360 version.
Yeah, I think wait for proper comparisons instead of fanboy drivel. I remember IGN touting the superior graphics of the PS3 version of GTA4...then, we found out it runs in a lower resolution with vaseline smear.

The alleged framerate drops are a pretty big factor but, personally, I'd consider a lower resolution/texture difference to be the clear-cut inferior version.

Eagerly awaiting DF's verdict before plopping down my cash.

So the PS3 version runs better? I just watched the GT review, and all it said was some framerate problems.

After the sub-hd RDR on PS3, I was hoping a bit more from this game.

From Brad's review on GB.

"Having spent a lot of time with both versions of L.A. Noire, the PlayStation 3 game is the clear-cut winner. Both versions of the game look fantastic, but there were a few instances of painful frame rate drops and objects drawing in too slowly on the Xbox that didn't exist on the PS3."

Really, though. It seems like either or will be fine, overall.

IGN review first sentence

"LA noire isn't like most videogames developed by rockstar"

I don't understand why people have a problem with this. I am willing to bet that 95% of people who buy this game don't know or care which dev team developed this game. Most people have a preconceived notion of how a Rockstar game looks and plays, based off of GTA and, most recently, RDR. They will go into this game expecting it to be like GTA and RDR, and I really can't fault them for that.

My suspicions about this game getting great scores because of the Rockstar bias (compared to Mafia 2) are confirmed. Not that LA Noire isn't a better game than Mafia 2 (it likely is) but the beating Mafia 2 took in terms of scores in the 5s and 6s make no sense at all when LA Noire doesn't have extra shit to do in the city either. The only difference between Noire has the interrogation stuff + might be longer depending on the player.

Anyway have PS3 version pre-ordered and can't wait, been waiting for this game since 2005 with the initial teaser. Huge noir fan and will love it for the atmosphere, setting and visuals even if it gets repetitive. I loved Mafia 2 as well for the same reasons.
